1. Play in a Thin Lizzy 'tribute' Think Lizzy - definitely not a looky-likey but we do try and soundy-likey!
2. Think Lizzy will be headlining The New Plough's Band Fest starting at 8:00pm. Bands on from 2:00pm - £3.50 on the door. More details here - http://thinklizzy.co.uk/live-this-weekend/
3. I've never had to play 'ill' (yet) but have had to play several gigs with a herniated disc - the most recent being my last gig when after loading the car in the afternoon I thought I'd clean my Triumph motorbike...all's good then instead of riding it into the garage I thought I'd push it...lent over, proceeded to move it and felt the back go straight away! ! I usually get through on a diet of Tramadol and ibuprofen. The other guys in the band are really good about it and make sure I don't have to unload/carry anything!
4. I may bear the above in mind - being of a somewhat acidic nature I've already successfully 'eaten' one guitar bridge (Wilkinson VS100) and the replacement is so corroded it will never budge again! I'm definitely a 'fresh t-shirt at the interval' kinda guy!!!!
5. All finished and should be with me next week. The brief was a replica of Phil's iconic maple boarded CSB era Precision, but worn to emulate how it would look today had Phil still been alive and playing - I don't think it's turned out so badly. 6. Get the Funk Out, Emerald and my fave - the original version of Fool for your Lovin' with Neil Murray's bouncing bass line!
7. I'm in the wrong shop if there's a Fodera in there!
8. Would love a pair of these to run with my MiBass 220 head but I have to move a few bits on first...GLWTS
9. My wait is coming to an end! Mark let me know that they're currently working on my CBS era 'Phil Lynott' Precision replica and it should be in my eager hands early May!
10. I always try to deflect it towards the band - "Glad you enjoyed the band" or "thanks for staying and watching the band" - the bass is just a part of the whole, especially in our setup. I don't do anything clever or technical, just try and play it the way Phil did. That said, a huge Lizzy fan who reeled off the times and tours he'd seen them on paid the whole band a massive compliment when he said any one of us could have could have played in Thin Lizzy - I didn't knowhow to react to that except for "Thanks, that means a lot"
11.
Another gold Patrick Eggle Berlin if I'm not mistaken... in the same thread... Spooky! Mine was a '93 Plus - which I still have; battered & bruised from the years of onstage abuse but still alive. ( Yours looks like a Pro to me...) We seem to be trending towards a 'Patrick Eggles used in vids' thread I think.
It's '96 Berlin Pro Elite - http://basschat.co.u...-1386277030.jpg
Mullets ahoy! And the keys player needs shooting, but good song otherwise!
That'll be Benny The Bass then! Mine is just a huge pony tail! I'd always thought the keys were a tad 'busy' too The track has certainly aged better than the vid - the jury is out on the vocalist!
12. This got added to YouTube by a former band member - I still quite like this track tbh! Note - I was a guitard/vocalist in this band! http://youtu.be/VjOE0OqHmkc
13. A much better gig than we had anticipated! The venue was a small working mans club come pub in an ex mining village in deepest Derbyshire and we had few expectations re the gig and were quite prepared to treat it as a paid rehearsal. Come 9:00pm a good crowd had turned up and proceeded to enjoy pretty much every Lizzy track we threw at them! It just goes to show you really can never tell what kind of night you're going to have. A few weekends off then back to it in mid-May
14. Either the sweet sound of silence, or Radio 5
15. Currently got The Cadillac Three Tennessee Mojo album pretty much on repeat!
16. Hot on the heels of a great gig in Matlock Bath Think Lizzy roll into Ironville this Friday for more Irish twin-guitar mayhem! Starts around 9:00ish, perhaps!
17. Sat's gig was a belter...small venue but chock full of noisy punters. I LIKE gigs like that! Back out again Friday I'm getting happier wit my ability to balance the playing and front man roles too.
18. More Thin Lizzy than a venue can possibly handle! It could be mad busy, it could be as quiet as they come with it being Easter Saturday but what the hell - we'll be there giving it our all as always!
19.
Interesting...are these gigs generally well attended? We (Cherry White) played Derby at the beginning of February and the singer from Thunderous Jones, who invited us up for the gig, told us that they hardly bother to play around Derby because nobody seems to bother coming out for live music! It was the first time we'd played Derby, so we knew very little about the local scene, and took his word for it - but it sounds like your experience is a bit different from his.
Different markets I guess...ours is the pub crowd and usually within a 10 mile radius of the City centre. Usually pretty well attended - certainly no reason to complain
20. We're turning gigs away in the Derby area as our drummer can't commit to more than the current workload which is a real shame!
21. What level relic is on that? I've just got word from Mark that once his current build is finished my CBS era Lynott replica is underway
22. Either The Boys are Back in Town or Whiskey in the Jar, but to be fair the entire set went down well...like the real ale!
23. Return gig to a venue we'd played before and another cracking night - an excellent reception. The venue had changed the location of the band's 'stage' area...a little more cramped so I decided to run with the MiBass head and 2x10 setup - think I'm tempted to use this more often tbh as it punched nicely. I also remembered to actually worry about what I was playing as much as being the front man/entertainer - I was a lot happier with my playing than a few recent gigs
