I'd like one of these...and an ebony one...and a cherry one!

1 x 15 combo coupled with a 2 x 10 extension cab, could happily rehearse with just the combo if one of two guitarists realised volume is self-defeating!!! For home practice it's the Ashdown emulator on Ampkit and a set of headphones or GarageBand and a sub/satellite setup
-
The best is surely what's right for the job in hand?
-
Despite satisfying a long standing GAS I still fancy a Sandberg TM2 or a Stingray HH Slo...or both!!!
-
I've unplugged mine plenty of times without turning off GarageBand. Are you monitoring your signal through the speakers? Possible feedback? Try using GarageBand with the Jam and headphones to see if that's the source of the problem.
-
But gsgbass you have that lovely Walnut SG! The T'bird is all setup with a new set of Hybrid Slinky's...I managed to drop have the height of the bridge and get the action waaaay down- now to spend a couple of evenings dialing in the Ashdown.

Thanks for all the comments - don't get to try it in a band setting for a couple of weeks though! Boo!

Ok - I have got home, fired up the Ashdown and plugged in...and its LOVELY!!!! A much wider variety of tones than I would have thought possible and the slimmest of necks...almost like playing a guitar. Both pups in unison create a fat rich sound that can sound mellow or gritty, depending upon the attack. The bridge alone has an edgy bite to it that should cut through most mixes, whilst the neck pup is much more mellow, but again can get dirty when really attacked. I've yet to really play with the amp settings to see just where I can go with it. Ergonomically, it's like a lot of Gibson guitars - it's a fret away from you! Grab a 7th fret E and it's an F! The upper 'non-horn' can feel a little uncomfortable at first but soon becomes 2nd nature. It's a Firebird's bigger brother so I guess I'm used to it...just have to remember how it feels! It definitely needs a tweak to the truss rod - there's very little relief in there and the previous owner has resorted to raising the bridge to get a usable action instead of adjusting the neck...perhaps he wasn't too confident? I'm pretty sure I've not got a hound, and that with a few minutes effort (and know-how) it'll be buzz free and flying...like a 'Bird Thought I'd break the camera out and put some proper photos up so -
Wow. That's amazing. Well done! I'm sure you will really enjoy that gorgeous instrument. How does she sound?
Really pleased with the price and condition. As for the sound...I don't know yet as it arrived at the office this afternoon. The rig is set up at home and I'll be giving it a run through as soon as I get to the house tonight!!!
Have had GAS for one of those since 2009. Can I ask how much that beauty set you back?
Managed to get this 2010 example for £750 inc. shipping

The Thunderbird has landed...and meets every expectation. A few teeny tiny marks but maybe that'll mean I'm not overly precious of my new purchase. That's not to say I'll abuse it, just won't be so anal over it! Anyway - introducing the new arrival

Today is a good day - a new to me bass arrives at work and a massive GAS problem addressed. Since I swapped to bass from g****r 3 years ago I have lusted after a Thunderbird, despite being massively disappointed by it's 6-string cousin the Firebird but those weedy mini ceramic hum buckers were to blame! I could never really justify one as I needed to be a bit more flexible tone-wise. However, with the forming of a Lizzy cover band when a straight ahead rock sound is all I need...well...why the hell not! Before anyone says it...I'm NOT getting a black P with a mirror pick guard! Cover, not tribute! Anyway, today a mint vintage sunburst 2010 Thunderbird IV arrives at the office. Ampkit with my Ashdown emulator, cable and headphones are at the ready! Pics in due course, as apparently without them it's all a figment of my over-active imagination! Rik
Just got this back after having a full clean-up, setup, entirely new wiring and pickups and some locking Sperzels. Sounds absolutely lovely:
Always fancied a Vee!
...the Eggles were hugely underrated and just as nice as PRS, just poor timing ensured they didn't do better IMO ...
Sadly Eggle didn't do themselves any favours when they elected to bypass their dealer network and offer the instruments to sale directly to the customer at a saving of several hundred pounds, meaning that dealers were left with no option but to further reduce guitars they were already taking a loss on and Eggle had no good-will in the industry.
-
Are you kidding me? Have you seen the used prices on Ebay? I don't know of any poor man who could afford one of these, let alone a PRS....
I bought it new from the Eggle factory in Coventry in 1996/97 for the sum of £1250. 2nd hand prices for the same instrument today is circa £800 but a replacement from Eggle as a customer oder (the model is no longer manufactured) would be circa £2500!!! I guess the same era PRS would be a lot more that £1250 at the time, and certainly more than the £800 used. They are one of the guitar world's best kept open secrets!
So, um, I've got this black cherry 2007 Gibson Les Paul Double Cut (later model with walnut "tone plate" a la Money bass).
Oooooh - that's rather lovely!
-
Well, patience and persistence paid off and yesterday I was rewarded with a near mint 2010 GibsonThunderbird IV for the princely sum of £750! Exited much! NBD is next Wed/Thu depending on delivery. This is worse than waiting for Christmas!!!
-
Have finally joined the Thunderbird OC! Waiting for this to arrive - middle of next week I hope More pics here https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#AC5Uzl7VGhd6dw

Maybe I just don't know any better but in my rock band environments they've always sounded fine! Portable, reasonable weight to carry, compact enough and not stupidly expensive...they get my vote!
That's true. But could you play Stereophonics songs constantly without thinking "could we drop in a spot of Muse"?
Very easily!!!

Anyone use an iMac with Garageband?
DaytonaRik replied to John Cellario's topic in General Discussion
I thought the whole point of garage band was to just plug in and play! Very disapointing to think you have to fork out even more cash.
The software IS plug and play, however, you have to get the sound into the device first! That doesn;t mean you have have to get ripepd off/pressured into buying a studio quality USB preamp/interface, there are plenty of affordable quality solutions out there. -

Another regular user here - get something like the Apogee Jam interface and you can then use it with Garage Band or AmpKit on other IOS devices. -
