1. Without actually hearing what you're hearing it's hard to know where the unwanted noise is coming from; assuming you know what you're doing regarding setting up a bass and it isn't fret buzz and also that you're being sensible with the EQ then it might be you have steel round wound strings on the bass which usually do start out bright - however after 6 months use I'd have expected these to have mellowed somewhat and lost their initial brightness. Having said all that, and if you don't want flats and the Elixirs are indeed steel then I'd suggest you try some nickel round wounds which usually have a warmer tone and will probably feel smoother for fingerstyle.
2. It's a 1 not a 1A (passive not active).
3. Very tidy job - you should be pleased and proud!
4. I agree with the suggestions that it depends on what you like/want to hear. There's no one best position and I suspect that the actual pickup type will influence where you'll end up placing it as much as a position chosen relative to the locations of the vibration antinodes/nodes along the string (in other words a humbucker might well sound good in a position that a single coil won't and vice versa).
5. I can't help you but I salute your excellent taste!
6. Have Googled your Yamaha and it's an instrument that needs an amplifier just like any other synth - use the mono (L) output.
7. Though it won't offer much protection against scratching you might try using linseed oil on the rosewood fingerboard as it does fill pores and hardens as it dries. You'll get a nice glossy surface after repeated applications - I use it on my fretless.
8. I say stick with the mojo, get new pots in with decent wiring and give the badge snobs the surprise of their life when they hear how good it plays and sounds.
9.
The Propellerheads cover is a cracking version...
Massive +1 for this!
10. The song might work for a love story themed film but it doesn't suggest the kind of drama, tension and excitement that I'd expect to see in a Bond film.
11. I'm wondering if it'd be safe to try some sort of rust curer dabbed on with a cotton bud after you've rubbed off the surface layer? You'd end up with some dark areas as the remaining rust reacts but at least you'd kill it.
12. I think the shelf nut is intended to counteract the tendency for a note to play sharp at the lower frets due to the string being stretched - you'll notice this when the nut slots are too shallow (and hence the string sits too high above the fingerboard) but get the nut cut correctly and I think most or all of that problem goes away.
13. Unless you're lucky those nickels are probably going to have a different tension anyway so you'll probably have to adjust the neck for relief (the same goes for intonation for that matter). If you do need to adjust the truss rod it won't be by much; maybe an eighth of a turn or so which won't hurt a bit.
14. Unless the photographer is already quite used to running band photoshoots and knows how to direct people they might well be just as nervous as you are. I'd hope they'd show you some of the shots as they're being made; this will hopefully give you confidence in their ability and approach and you'll like what you see. You'll probably find that the best shots are the ones taken towards the end of the shoot when everyone's relaxed and having fun
15.
'scuse my ignorance but whats choke?
Not quite full on fret buzz but some loss of vibration from a string due to unwanted contact with frets.
16. Is it too late to say "I'm very bored"
17. Great to see that it's arrived as promised; really happy for you!
18.
It has arrived! NBD thread coming later
To quote Alan Partridge... "Back of the net!"
19. That's dreadful. Why's it still there if it's been reported?!
20. Comes with £119 worth of added mojo?
21. The Comsat Angels - Waiting for a Miracle... great debut album and the bass is beautifully prominent.
22. I wonder if something like a Cort GB74 would suit you; they're well put together and play well though some owners are a little underwhelmed by the pickups and preamp. I suspect however that your best bet is to get to a few music shops and see what you like the look and sound of - with your budget you ought to be able to find something decent.
23. The chances of it NOT being legit seem less likely than it being the real thing - how many people would know your email address and that you'd gone to the Fender event? All they're asking is for a reply to the email and since they already have your address you aren't exactly divulging anything that isn't already known. I'd say get back in touch ASAP!
24. Burn it!
25. That's looking rather tasty
