1.
I've got the westone thunder 1A fretless. Play nice but I'm not too keen on the active mode consider is bass boost and cut treble or treble boost and cut bass ..... Also it takes 2x 9v battery. I use my as passive mode.
I've got a Spectrum LX which I think has the same EQ as the Thunder 1A - a passive treble cut tone pot and the active tone pot which seems to be a semi-parametric control with a boost that's sweepable from high treble right down to deep bass. In active mode I tend to favour passive tone fully open and boosting the bass somewhat.
2. Liam Carter and his company Cartec Audio have their business address as Nortex Mill in Bolton. The full address is freely available on the Cartec Audio website http://www.cartecaudio.com/ His company's Facebook page has a couple of people asking for support last year and they struggled to make contact so it'll be the same person. I really hope this matter gets resolved ASAP - we shouldn't have to put up with people like him abusing the trust of Basschat members.
3. Here's a bit about the company http://www.gnbmusic.com/bbs/board.php?bo_table=m01_01 They've worked with Cort, are now working with EMG and their in house brand is Tone Master. They do a neck and a bridge six pole pickup, same overall width but the pole spacing is slightly different http://www.gnbmusic.com/shop/item.php?it_id=1393237548
4.
How can I put this , oh yeah, I know, I LOVE YOU Seriously though, how would we be able to change "the aspect" on the video, as we intend sending it to some promoters and I really don't want to look any more Sumo than I already do.
There's a free video conversion tool called 'Any Video Converter' where, if memory serves correct, you can specify the aspect ratio (width and height in pixels) of the output file. I've just taken a screen grab of that YouTube video and I found that reducing the width down to 80% of the original size makes everything look better - you can use the speakers in the 4x10 cabinet seen behind your guitarist as a guide to when you've got the width correct (when those speakers look round not oval).
5. I'm pretty sure the video's been uploaded in the wrong aspect ratio - it's too wide.
6. I think I'm right in saying that the Lakland Skylines are built by Cort who make some very nice instruments for other brands as well as under their own name. Your description of 'modern' to me suggests active preamp (though it's nice to be able to go passive when you want). I'm pretty certain the G&L Tribute series come from the Cort factory and the L-2000 has plenty of tonal options available (active/passive, series/parallel, preamp treble boost). Looks like you're going to have to demo quite a few basses!
7. Love these build-a-bass threads! Have fun!
8. There's probably greater opportunity to create a complex mix of bass/mid/treble with an active instrument which you can't achieve with a passive treble roll-off tone control - perhaps there's a smoother transition across the frequencies with a passive instrument as opposed to the potential to create unbalanced humps/troughs with the active which is what you're hearing?
9. Some kind of luggage strap across the top of the head and right around the cab?
10. Solid shafts sometimes have a flattened face that the grub screw makes contact with so there's greater surface area to work with; I wonder too if the end of the grub screw is pointed which makes for even less metal to metal contact. Have you compared the tone knob with the volume knob to see why one stays put whilst the other doesn't?
11. Great news! Really pleased you got most of your gear back.
12. Have you read this thread about the Fender Rumble 500 V3 - suggests that the combo and a P bass were made for each other. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/258807-fender-rumble-500-v3-got-one-whats-it-like/page__p__2742088__hl__fender%20rumble%20500__fromsearch__1#entry2742088
13. I can't imagine what gear you'll have in another 5 or 10 years time Jenny!
14. 5 string P bass?
15. While you've got the combo opened up (to repair the crossover) you should carefully clean out any dust/fluff that's likely nestling inside it since this might be why it's prone to overheating.
16. Most people will tell you that active basses should run for pretty much hundreds of hours on a single battery (lasting for at least 6 months if played for an hour or so a day) so it's likely there's a fault in your wiring - it could be a short in the battery connector. I presume you're also not leaving a cable plugged into the jack socket (which also functions as the active circuitry on/off switch).
17. Assuming it's in decent playable condition I don't see how it would be any less giggable than a new(er) instrument - an old proven bass might be a better bet than a new and relatively unproven bass when it's the only instrument you own.
18. Pricing high might operate a little like the nightclub queue - that phenomenon where, even when the club is essentially empty, you create a queue to signpost high demand which then actually creates a demand (I believe there have been experiments - by Stanley Milgram? - where people join queues/crowds even when they don't know why the queue/crowd exists). The suggestion that if it's expensive it MUST be good?
19. Here's the circuit schematic (use the download link) as a PDF file for the BT108 http://www.electronica-pt.com/esquema/func-startdown/15960/ I think the speaker should be ok it was probably bypassed by the headphone out connection - but you might well have blown some component in the circuitry between the CD in and headphone out loop.
20. I'm another that would be driven mad by that bridge! The body wood looks quite nice!
21. I've never used one but I wonder if a clean boost pedal would do the job for you?
22. On the subject of painkillers - after the hernia op I decided not to take any I'd been prescribed - I thought it better that I knew what movements/activities induced pain and I just avoided doing them - being pain free was a good indication I was behaving myself
23. Have you adjusted the string to pickup distance (raising one side, lowering the other through adjustment of the pickup screws) to see if this affects the balance across the strings? You usually need the G nearer the pickup than the E in order to have even volumes.
24. I had a hernia repair op some years ago and assumed (since it was only a day case) I'd be up and running about almost straight away. Felt like a really old man upon recovering consciousness and was told in no uncertain terms that I wasn't to drive for two weeks or lift anything heavier than a kettle full of water. I don't know the extent of your procedure (which sounds a lot more complicated than mine) but it sounds like playing seated and having everything brought to you (including the bass) is a sensible precaution. Good luck!
