1. ... or music stands Edit: It would appear I need to flag this as a 'joke' rather than 'negativity'
2. Do these unwanted sounds exist when you play it unplugged - if they do then it's obviously a set-up issue. Buzzing all along the neck is usually due to too low an action and buzzing at the dusty end is usually because the neck has a bit too much relief. I could be wrong here but I seem to remember other owners commenting on the character of the onboard preamp; notably the way it emphasises treble (and not in a particularly helpful way) when boosted which might be adding to the buzz/rattle/clack you're hearing when you're amped up. I know some people have swapped out the stock preamp for a Retrovibe Stinger preamp which is reputed to be much closer to the original Stingray sound.
3. There's supposed to be a sweet spot height for the strings above the pickups; too large a string to pole distance means a weaker signal, too small a string to pole distance means the string vibration is potentially inhibited by the magnetic field. I would imagine that playing softly keeps the string vibrating in the sweet spot area all of the time whereas playing harder pushes the string away from that sweet spot so for some of the time you've got a weaker signal for the reasons I've mentioned. I've read more than once that you should let the amp do the work, turn that up so you don't have to put so much effort into playing the instrument and you might get rid of the problem.
4. This'll probably sound like overkill but I presume you've confirmed the members posts came from different IP addresses which originated from the right countries?
5. This thread has me wondering how frets are levelled with a graphite neck that has a predetermined amount of relief and no truss rod installed (this is based on me believing that you need to have a level fingerboard before you can level the frets).
6. Dimed - from the US 10 cent coin, meaning it's set at 10 (the maximum, unless you're Nigel Tufnel). I get annoyed by people who begin virtually every sentence with the word "So... "
7. I'd read this if I were you http://basschat.co.u...__hl__limelight Edit: Beaten to it LOL
8. I'm listening to Jon Hopkins a fair bit at the moment - pretty chilled out music. This is his first album... http://youtu.be/yEMQeJ9FwY8
9. I think the headstock could be a bit bigger...
10. Great job Andy! Very impressive
11. @Wonky2 - I don't think changing the nut on your acoustic is going to help with fret buzz when you're playing notes higher up the neck; taking a little more relief out of the neck might help but it might also be a case of the frets needing a little attention or indeed it might be the bridge is just a little too low for the G.
12. If you can play it and it's perfectly in tune all along the neck with no fret buzz then just go with whatever you like - however as for what suits me I reckon it's close to double the heights I go for (which is 6/64" or 2.4mm at the 17th fret for the E string, and 5/64" for the G).
13. @Funky Dunky - looking at the photos of your bass I'm guessing that there's a lot more relief than there ought to be, the action seems incredibly high. Getting fret buzz at the higher frets would support my assumption. When tightening a truss rod it helps if you can straighten the neck a bit by hand - don't assume the truss rod nut alone can exert all the force needed (and remember that tightening the truss rod nut reduces neck relief, taking out some curvature, making it straighter). If you're worried that you're putting too much strain on a truss rod then it might be safer to take it to a luthier. HTH
14. Love these bass comparison videos - quite a bit of difference to my ears listening through headphones and I found it hard to choose my favourite, but I'd put the MIM at the end of the list. Nice playing too!
15. AFAIK the standard ones are the 'clover' type; yours are often called 'lollipop'.
16. Just been reading up on the HH Valve Sound a little and have seen comments indicating that the module was a fairly simple FET gain stage and it would sound similar to an overdriven 12AX7 valve (as found in a valve preamp). Coincidentally Gallien Krueger are supposed to have tried something similar with their GIVE (Gate Induced Valve Effect) technology...
17. For the cost alone it's probably worth him trying the Behringer V-Tone Bass BDI21 pedal - costs under £30 and isn't a million miles away from the far more expensive SansAmp Bass Driver DI... http://youtu.be/SD0CN4rs8p8
18. Sounds to me like the neck needs a tad more relief (loosening the truss rod maybe an 1/8th of a turn or so). A perfectly straight neck will cause fret buzz near the nut. You should be able to drop the saddles back down when you've got the right amount of relief dialled in - with a string held down at the first and last frets you should have about .012" gap at the 8th fret - this is the thickness of a business card (that's card not a plastic credit card which is a lot thicker).
19. Looking at mine at the back of the headstock I see the worm wheel (the large cog), then I think a thin plastic washer, then a roughly rectangular piece of metal that comes into contact with the worm (on the tuning peg), then I think a metal washer and then the mounting plate. HTH
20.
Is that price right for an Overwater?????
It's a Tanglewood Overwater not the UK hand-built variety.
21. A few BCers on here have the Squier Vintage Modified P5 and rate it pretty highly. Might be worth trying a few out?
22. You obviously can't use anything too long or it'll come through the other side of the headstock. I'd measure the thickness of the headstock and try to find a screw of that length... you know that the string retainer thickness will take up some of the length so you won't get it coming out on the other side. You'll need to be careful when you make the pilot holes too.
23. I think the 'n' fell off the 'Levin' and landed on the 'Man'
24. Drop of clear nail varnish on the top of the screw so it flows into the thread. If you already have some then clear touch up car lacquer used in the same way.
25. Playing one bum note in an entire set doesn't sound too bad to me! Enjoy playing the Fury but don't ignore the BB either
