1. There was a Dallas Tuxedo guitar, one of the first British made solid bodies - have a read of this http://www.watkinsguitars.co.uk/history.htm
2. Genz Benz - fantastic combos. £299! http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Genz_Benz_Contour_Combos_210,_115.html
3. This? http://youtu.be/SQc3T45pRWY

5. Burroughs at 100 "Here comes Johnny Yen again, With the liquor and drugs, And the Flesh Machine." Even for those that don't know William Burroughs, he's easy to find. He's in the lyrics to Iggy Pop's Lust For Life and on the cover of Sgt. Pepper. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03v9p0x
6. Thank heavens it's sorted - I had a real "need to know" vibe going on over this LOL
7. I'd recommend decent budget headphones over budget desktop speakers when listening to anything via computer. Koss PortaPro headphones have got a pretty good bass response and are well rated and inexpensive http://www.amazon.co.uk/Koss-Stereo-Over-Ear-Headphones-Smartphone/dp/B00001P4ZH/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392554594&sr=8-1&keywords=portapro+koss
8. I keep looking at this Vintage V4 (Precision) bass and so far have resisted... http://www.gak.co.uk/en/vintage-v4bk-bass-boulevard-black/18004
9. Am glad they used Kasabian's 'Running Battle' rather than Pacebo's 'Meds' for that clip...
10. Plenty of places to buy flatwounds from online and I can recommend Fender. They will sound different to roundwounds. The Ebonol board will mark a little from using roundwounds but will withstand wear much better than say rosewood and maybe better than ebony. Jaco had an epoxy coated rosewood fingerboard so it probably had a surface not unlike Ebonol. Jaco used roundwounds.
11.
It maybe worth mentioning that the bass has a bartolini preamp installed.
Active EQ, normal pickups... Your Genz Benz cab has a tweeter? Did the other amp/cab have one? It still surprises me that expensive Fender Jazz basses have hum issues; my Squier Active Deluxe Jazz doesn't hum in the slightest! If you've shielded the pickup cavities then maybe you need to install noiseless pickups? http://www.fender.com/en-GB/guitar-bass-parts/pickups-and-preamps/fender-vintage-noiseless-jazz-bass-pickups-set-of-2/
12. Some reviews of free software here http://freemusicsoftware.org/category/free-windows-audio-software/audio-sequencer-windows
13. I don't know who Peter Baltes is; not missing anything am I?
14. We're getting into Agatha Christie territory now aren't we? "The Case of the Clicking Bass"...
15. Looks like you got lucky - now learn this bass line http://youtu.be/h5EofwRzit0
16. You put your fingers dead on the lines, the side dot markers are there to remind you which 'fret' position is which (just as with a fretted instrument). On an unlined fretless the side dot markers are right where the frets would lie as you clearly have no other point of reference (other than your ear). There are those who have a problem with lined boards (imagining it's a 'cheat' perhaps?) - I don't have a problem with lined fretless basses though mine is unlined.
17. This has me stumped for ideas; I did wonder if the nut slot was too wide for the D string but you're hearing the click when playing fretted notes as well as the open string so I wonder if the bridge saddle is moving sideways ('upwards' to the A string saddle) when playing finger style?
18. 2 in hard cases, 1 in a semi-rigid case, 1 in a gigbag standing upright and 1 completely naked standing balanced in a corner.
19. More frets seen these days since manufacturers have machines cutting the fret slots and so can achieve higher accuracy than a hand cut fingerboard? Correct intonation harder to achieve higher up the neck as fret placement tolerance reduces?
20. Yeah I like the sound and feel of Fender steel flats; I have them on my fretless and one of my fretted basses and will stick with them for the value-for-money aspect too.
21. I've always enjoyed Barry Adamson's work with Magazine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnAoBtZScIE
22. This is an active bass but it's a neck-through and Corts do get a lot of love from those who aren't label snobs http://www.cortguitars.com/en/product/a4-1

Cort GB4

Cort build a lot of Squiers these days which is why the quality has improved so much - that's a great looking bass and a nice alternative to a traditional jazz (though I'm still totally impressed with my Squier Active Deluxe Jazz).
24. This is a friend of a friend - http://www.philipporterguitars.co.uk/index.html
25. Those Yamahas are active I think but I wouldn't worry too much about passive vs active as long as you like the way an instrument sounds Dannyc. Have you tried any Squiers or Corts yet? I'm thoroughly impressed with my Squier Active Deluxe Jazz.
