Through body strings for 35" Lakland 55-01 (5 string bass)

cheers Chris. i need to know which are long enough to fit a 55-01 which is 35" scale and also more than an inch for through body as compared to the other way. i don't want to buy a "normal" 5-string set only to find out they don't fit. i read that for 55-01, strings must be 38" winding, but I am not sure which once are and which once aren't. thnx anyway. cheers -
Why do you want to do that? I tried stringing through the body and not on my US Lakland and I didn't hear or feel much difference between either way.
i guess i just wanted to try the difference between the two. -
I've always used the Daddario Nickels in extra long. They work well with the bass for me.
thanks. have you the exact info please? -
I emailed Sandberg and they sent me a baterry compartment for free
The John East MM pre is great, if the bass plays nice then it can only be improved by the East pre.
i agree. JEast preamps are really, REALLY nice. is an OLP worthy of such a preamp though (or even a new MM5.2 pickup)
If you're up for modding, I'd start by bypassing the preamp. If necessary, just wire the pickup straight to the socket. That'll tell you how much you like the pickup. Get the pickup right (easy to upgrade such a one) before worrying about the pre.
my worry is that by bypassing the pots and caps might present me with a lack of resistance which is essential to the tone of the bass. so i might be hearing a sound which in a way is misleading. bottom line is, JEast is about £160 plus MM52 is about £110. is it worth investing that sort of money on an OLP. maybe it is. i need to find out i guess :-)

need a bit of advice. i have an OLP MM5 Tony Levin (not the pink one. the other one) which i think has a terrible preamp. from what i have read pickup is rather good but i am not sure really. so i would like to mod it with a JEast preamp to start off with, and perhaps later replace the pickup with a Nordy MM5.2 (but not before i am sure that the pickup is as terrible as the preamp). when not plugged in, the bass feels, sounds, and plays really well. obviously it is not as good as a proper Stingray 5 but it is very solid. i like it a lot. when plugged it in, i have to turn a lot of knobs on the bass and on the amp to make it sound anything like decent. my question is should i upgrade/mod it with JEast or am I wasting time and money? cheers
I've seen these go for anywhere between £500 and £900, though really depends on who's buying. The quality of the bass certainly puts it at the upper end of that range, but the often low demand for Japanese high-end basses means that they often go for less. Is it an SR3005E? I.e. with the Bartolini pickups rather than Ibanez-own?
thanks for that. cheers i am not sure about the E (i thought they were all just sr3005), but it does have Bartolini pups.
Hardly worth anything. I'll give you a fiver for it
i would gladly take a fiver :-D. seriously though. thnx

i hope this is allowed. what is a realistic price for a (2nd hand obviously) Made in Japan (Fuji-gen 2003) Ibanez SR3005 Prestige (original hard case and VERY good condition). cheers
