1.
Around 300-500 roughly And as much as I like 1x15s I can never get on with them alone 410 and 115 though...oh yes
Then you need my Mesa Powerhouse 4x10 + 15 all in one box that's up in the for sale section.
2.
Ill be running the abm500 head If anyone can suggest a cab for around the same price id be More then happy to look into it =) cheers for the input guys so any suggestions? Ive looked into eden cabs which caught my eye and warwick which im 50 / 50 with
I had an USA Eden 410 xlt at the same time I had the 410 ABM and Eden wins hands down. I can't comment on the Warwick. How much are you looking to spend as I have a couple of Markbass 410's comming up for sale.
3. An early eighties G&L L1000 black or natural. Bob.
4. I've tried both these and found them to be similar in tone but the ABM had a certain strength to the sound which felt reassuring. The early ABM's were made in the UK and were expensive, the later one's were made abroad cheaper and sold cheaper which affected the used price of the UK made ones and they can be picked up very cheaply. So ABM wins, UK made is preferred. MAG for boys ABM for men.
5. You should get more than enough grunt with a passive bass - I do with mine.
6. I have the BA12 for home practice, it's ok for that, but at 50 watts it cries out in severe pain if you try and play with the band. Not great build quality either. Go for a Genz Benz 300 watt 2 x10 combo I forget the model but GAK are knocking them out for £300 and I think someone on this Forum's seen them somewhere for £250. A no brainer!
7. '£1600 new' this has to be a bargain at £495
8. If you're after gratification in the mid department stay away from Markbass cabs
9.
The MB LMIII was clean, smooth, and warm to me. Very precise. Nice amp. I wouldn't go down the MB route nowadays as I personally think they've lost their way a little. We just want a LMIV with more power, semi para mids, aux in/headphones, and the same tone. The RH450 is still a favourite of mine. I love that baked in tone. The 750 will give you the treble snap. The RH450 amp is more in the Aguilar TH500 territory. Eg, lots of punch! The Shuttle is closer to the Markbass F1/500. Eg, very precise, very quick! This is more apparent with the Max 9.2 and the FET channel. The normal 9.2 will have the warmth of the tube...but it is still tight and bright, but it will give you plenty of low end. The Streamliner has a small mid scoop with controls at 12. This is the same as many famous amps! E.g. Orange TB500, GK amps and Fender amps. It can be controlled, easily. The knobs are there to turn! The bass on the Streamliner is huge. I love it. It can be tamed...easily. With a Stingray...tough choice...they both sound fantastic. I am a huge Musicman fan and both the Streamliner and Shuttlemax sound great...excellent features, superb DI and headphone out, etc.
Agreed. Both versitile amps, but the Streamliner does tend to lean towards Rock music styles a little more.
10. Tough one this as 'taste gets in the way; one man’s meat is another man’s poison etc. I would suggest that the sound quality of bass heads over recent years has been pretty good, and fairly hard to find a really bad one, not so with cabs, and in a head/cab combo the cab should be were the money’s spent. Your comment on the Ameg being the ‘only cab for you’ suggests you’ve tried all the others, if you have I would be surprised the Ampeg wins, but then again, ‘taste’, and that would be a crazy topic to get into. One of my faves at the moment is a GB Streamliner through a Berg CN212, but that’s this month.
11. Be prepared to get all sorts of advise from this Forum but your Doctor is where you should go first as he'll be more familiar with you and your history.
12. The one I used had two chanels one Fender sounding and the other Marshall sounding, doing both very well.
13. Up the gain, up the mids and dig in!
14. I think the Lady in question is a well balanced individual, she has a chip on each shoulder!
15. I've compared the 2x12 versions and kept on A/Bing until I almost lost the will to continue, this was due to the fact they were both so good, the Van having a slightly warmer lower mid tone. I could not choose between them so walked away to think on it for a few days. I have now ordered a Super Twin 2 with a view to bring it into the equation, and maybe utilise the Barefaced return policy. One thing has struck me is that the sound of the Van is still clearly in my head but the Berg I just remember as being good.
16. I tried this head out through a Vanderkley 2x12 and I thought it was one of the purest sounding bass amps I have ever played through, faithfully recreating everything my fingers dared to provide; it scared the sh*te out of me! Utter brilliance!
17. But does the wife have wheels, and gets loud when you plug in causing you involuntary bowel movements?
18. Getting tempted but have too much gear that won't sell.
19. Vanderkley, especially with a Streamliner.
