Up for grabs is my Barefaced Big Baby I. As many of you know of the wonderful quality of Barefaced's gear, I really don't need to give much of an introduction on it. From experience, the cabinet is amazingly light (great for the long haul gigs and carrying up and down flights of stairs) and sounds even better. I'm only selling as it I fancy something a bit different, sonically speaking. I'm based in Littlehampton, West Sussex. Collection would be preferred but isn't a big deal to sort otherwise. I'm partial to p/ex on either an EBS ProLine 4x10 with cash, Barefaced Big Twin (with cash from my end) or something else, if you feel like trying. Any questions? Feel free to shoot me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Pictures here and more available upon request; http://s1243.photobu...I?sort=3&page=1
I think it depends on what your priority is , I have barefaced stuff because of my poor back , but if I had roadies I'd probably have a Ashdown 8 x10 ..
If only...
Possibly a case of the BB2 being very clean sounding/transparent? Maybe a more coloured cab might be what you`re after. Plus, I always think that a load of speakers going have a focused "bigness" to the sound that just doesn`t seem to be there in single cone cabs. Put a 410 against a 212 and it always sounds "more" to me, not louder but just as you say, bulkier in sound terms. Which is why I`ve just gone for the Barefaced 410 & 210.
Yeah, I do find it sounds clean and transparent. I prefer that idea of it being very clean but full of phat to it (if that's the right way to describe it?). Perhaps trying another 4x10 might be an idea for me? The EBS I played on the gig was just incredible. It might well be because it was my best gig ever but still.
Seems to me you've got a clean sounding bass going into a clean sounding amp and a transparent cab. More on the hi-fi side of things. This will sound night and day different to a tube amp and a very coloured cab. I wonder what your objective was when you put your gear together. Never mind the festival. Did it sound good to you on the gigs you did previously? You could try your bass and cab with something like a Tonehammer TH500 or an Ashdown. Or just EQ more low end and low mids into your sound. I use a PJ5 and Lakland. They always sound ballsy no matter what amp I use.
The objective I had when I put the rig together was for something that compliments the band rather than sounding amazing on it's own. After I studied a bunch of Latin stuff, I ended up thinking of my bass to be akin to a horizontal drum. To me, the current rig sounds good but it wasn't the pseudo-euphoria I experienced from the festival rig. The Bongo I use always gets rave reviews from sound engineers no matter what amp I play through, so I'm a bit unsure. Maybe hit up BassDirect to try some stuff out?
Or try a £25 behringer BDI infront of it, before spending a fortune changing rigs. The BB + shuttle setup is a bit of a blank canvas sound wise, you maybe just need something to spice it up a bit.
Oh? I barely even have any pedals to consider, so I might as well start here.

My current rig is a Genz Benz Shuttle 12.0 going into a Barefaced Big baby and I recently have potentially been converted. I played a festival and the backline rig was an EBS head of some sort (Fafner of HD360) going into an EBS 4x10 and oh my, it was MIGHTY. I'm potentially converted. The sort of sound I aim for is something that bulks out the rhythm section of the band, think of a more pop-like Rocco, in which, the sound may not be amazing on it's own but really adds life to the band in the mix. I play a Musicman Bongo 5HH. What do you reckon, guys and gals? Anyone ever had a conversion experience like this or is this an audible equivalent of the grass always being greener on the other side?

How many of you have done the functions band gig here? Could you tell me your experience of it all? Enjoyed it? Any interesting stories?

'bass guitar' 'Bass Players United' 'No Treble' That should get you started.

Hello, everyone! A random idea but would anyone be interested in a study group amongst us for bass related stuff to be done online? Drop me a message if you're interested. I'm a keen geek who's nuts about self improvement. Would love to hear back from others.

Suits me to the ground. I'm a 5'er guy exclusively. The ability to have that Low Eb, D or even Db or C at the ready is perfect for me.

Bought a Barefaced cabinet from Kev. Absolutely superb to deal with. Simply put, you'll have no worries.

Anyone ever played 'St.Thomas' before? I'm thinking of prepping it for a jam session and I'm a bit unsure where to begin. I've got a basically pseudo-Samba, 2-beat feel down but I'm trying to really make it gleam and shine. Any thoughts?

I went from 5 to 0 almost overnight after a head injury that meant I had to sell pretty much anything. On the way up now with a Squier VMP5!

How long does it take you to learn a song?
ChunkyMunky replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
I usually break the track down into manageable chunks and then put said chunks together. For example, let's take a pop song. Some tracks I can pick up after a first listen whereas something like a Latin track? Could be two weeks. It's a bit of a subjective question, I guess. Could you throw in a song that we could gauge up against for others here, maybe? Something like 'Limelight' would probably take me a solid 30 minutes or so I reckon. -
Squier VM P5 body with no neck. What next?
ChunkyMunky replied to ChunkyMunky's topic in General Discussion
If you really need a new neck on this, you got a duff one!
Nah! I love the body on it but just fancy upgrading it. -
This but with a black pickguard...
If only there was a 5'er version of this.
-
Hey, y'all! I imported a Squier VM P5 5'er and love it to bits. I fancy popping a far better neck on, however. What can you recommended me, please?
-
I've sent off a few bits before. I'd be happy to circulate some books around that I'm not using at the moment. I've got;

Latin Bass Book - Oscar Stagnaro
The Jazz Bass Book - Bruce Goldsby
The Evolving Bassist - Rufus Reid
Loads more.
I'd love to do a temporary trade for anyone who has another book in that sort of realm. Feel free to drop me a message!

You're all making me feel really rather young.
The TV show didn't examine it in depth. Women are genetically pre-disposed to not like low bass effects. In the wild low frequency vibrations tended to be harbingers of nastiness, like earthquakes and stampedes. Men are the opposite, as said stampedes were a sign of lunch approaching on the hoof. This to a great extent explains male fascination with big subwoofers, explosive effects and loud cars and motorcycles, whereas women could care less. What explains the female infatuation with shoes is anyone's guess.
This is signature worthy content right here.
