1. What's the protocol for last minute non-BC'ers who want to come along?
2. How has no one taken this yet?! BUMP! BUMP! BUMP!
3.
Thanks, that's interesting to know. The 'What Is Hip?' bass line is beyond my level at the moment but it's something I aspire to. Heck of a workout. MarloweDK has a fab rendition of it on youtube, his hands are so relaxed as he plays it and I'm tensing way too much.
Surprisingly, it's not actually that difficult. Speed is borne from precision and not the other way round as a lot of people would misconceive it to be. Work on it really slowly (you'll be surprised where the notes land on the fingers in regards to shifting octaves on the E) and make it groove. The rest is just down to endurance and it'll come a bit quicker than you'll expect.
4.
I can bring a Boss charger...
Awesome. Thank you! I'll try and find mine in the meantime and if I do find it, I'll let you know.
5. Does anyone have a Boss charger of some sorts? I could bring a Boss DR880 for everyone to use and I've put mine down somewhere (knowing me, it's in the correct spot but it's just a backup).
6.
Someone may well get a good deal but there is nothing inevitable about any auction. We will only know for sure if it was a crazy deal or not when the auction ends and not before.
Of course. It's only out of good intentions and it's not a certainty.
7.
How is this a crazy deal?
Starting bid at around £360. Considering I picked my Bongo up from lurking, I got it for $800. I was hoping someone would end up potentially have the same good luck as I did. Considering these would go for about $1200 on average, a $600 starting bid means someone is going to inevitably get a good deal.
8. I was browsing eBay for a (right handed) 5 string Musicman Bongo and came across this. I hope someone gets a great deal out of it! 9. Whenever I've done a gear share, I'd always find the guy prior to the gig itself thanked him and offered a drink as a token of my appreciation. There's me thinking that this was standard procedure...
10. Weirdest gig I've ever played. I was pulling off a pseudo-rockabilly slap bass line and see a ruckus right next to me. I started laughing thinking it was fun and games until I realised that it turned into a frenzy of men and women kicking the crap out of each other. After the ensuing blood, fists and glass flew, there was a dog barking at them all too. The sound I had was my amp farting through the monitors. What a day!
11. Bump! Someone's getting a ridiculous bargain here. Just a shame it ain't me!
12. Here's how much of a muppet I am sometimes; they're on their way out. Please lock it up!
13. Aged 67. Just some food for thought!
14. My bad, I thought the titled implied it was a giveaway. I wasn't too sure if there was anything that people wanted them for free or not. Cheers for the heads up.
15. I'm currently going on a binge to try all kinds of strings. I'm testing them on my Musicman Bongo and so far, I've had some rather interesting results. If there's any you'd be able to recommend, please do. Feel free to chip in! From my experiences so far, this is what I've got from the strings. DR Lo-Riders: Not too bad. Nice for a fingerstyle tone and but leave bit to be desired, pretty average from what I've found. Didn't last a particularly long time! DR Hi-Beams: The stainless steel took a while getting used to but wasn't too bad after that. These sound great and really have the clarity I desire from strings but could be a bit brash and sharp for others. Unfortunately, these died after about 3 gigs. 16. Worst Timing! Best of luck to you!
17. I may well be able to go for this. Pop me down as a maybe!
18. Excellent suggestions, everyone. I must admit, they sure are coming up as rather expensive. Though I haven't checked Thailand, I saw the basses in Japan and South Korea are probably more expensive than the US counterparts. I must be missing something, right?
19. Hey, sellisnba If you can trek to Plymouth, I'd recommend getting in contact with a guy named Ian Randell. He does AWESOME setups. He's mostly a guitar teacher by day (or night) but I'd recommend checking him out.
20. I would be! My Mom's place is just down by Newton Abbot, so I'd be definitely up for a good ol' meet-up.
21. Alrighty, I need to finish it off first myself. I can assure you, for even an advanced player, it'll take you at least two weeks solidly to polish it off. It's a real ball breaker!
22. Would anyone be interested?
23. I'd thoroughly recommend a Musicman, but not quite the Stingray. I'd honestly opt for a Musicman Bongo to try out. Especially a HH model, if you can! If you're at the mini-bash on the 31st, you're more than welcome to give it a whirl.
