1. Ibanez sr1600.
2. Aah, maybe this bass isn't as good as I hoped it would be. I'm not sure that limited upper fret access would be too much of an issue for me - big hands and long fingers. The lack of blend doesn't bother me either. But I was hoping the feedback would say the pickups were great; the fact that they aren't has put me off this bass a bit.
3. Does anybody own one of these? I think the candy red bass looks stunning! What's the access to the upper frets like? I currently play a stingray, and the pickups look similar - does anyone know what the pickups are? Thanks
4. I want one of these basses so badly!
5. Want one of these sooooo bad! It's a pain too because I like the maple fretboard and sunburst colour in the newer road worn basses (reds in sunburst finish instead of tobacco burst), but then I don't like road worn finishes
6. Congrats dude, I am currently in the process of saving for this exact american standard p bass - maple, tortoise shell and olympic white. Love the pickups in this year's model! I Considered mystic red and sticking on a black pickguard, but mystic red has got nothing on candy apple red. And then there's the fact that this looks stunning!
7. Cheers dude, that really helps
8. Jazz - 1.5" - blocks and binding, Shoreline Gold. With the matching headstock that would look killer!
9.
I am 99.99% sure that I will probably not think about any further potential changes that I may be thinking about already... if you catch my drift! Diode selection will remain internal to keep the available selection large, though I am having a look at an access port on the bottom panel. It's designed to be a two-channel pedal, with a deliberately-shared EQ so that the second channel is a "more" rather than a totally different sound. It can be setup with one channel as your always-on "warm" sound, with the second channel offering a higher gain version of that same sound, or as an OD/Distortion with two levels of dirt. It really depends on what else you're using and whether you like to have an always-on OD really. I have used it in gig settings in both of the above examples. As you mention you want a dedicated overdrive, I would take that to mean you want to alter the tone when using that pedal, correct? If that's the case and you were using a 66 in that setup, you could go either way and either go for 66+VT or 66+VMT, for example. I know Danbowskill was running 66+VMT so he may be able to offer you some advice on that front! I agree, lovely etch! Mods - as ever I've tried to answer questions regarding my stuff, but if I've overstepped any marks just give me a nudge
Thanks very much for the response well if it's capable of warm sound and higher gain od with the two settings, maybe I could just use that. Will definitely ask Danbowskill though. Does the 66 work well with active, high-output basses?
10. YES! Seriously, everyone needs a stingray in their life.
11. I'd take either! Flame top and black cherry - mmmmmm
12. So it seems the choices are - Diamond bass comp, then either: - Cog Effects Knightfall 66 - Tech 21 vt bass + Darkglass vmt - Darkglass b7k + vmt - Tech 21 vt bass + BAT Pharaoh fuzz
13.
Yes, it would er, make it sound more compressed. And there's the EQ too of course. The Diamond also has an internally switchable hi-cut filter, with that on it will roll off the highs slightly if placed after drive pedals.
The only reason I said that was because someone on talkbass (can't remember who) said that the diamond narrows the sound of darkglass pedals. So I just thought it would be worth checking...
14. Yeah, people have been saying good things about the idiotbox. The knightfall is definitely a contender, would using a diamond bass comp with it affect the sound coming from it?
15. Say hypothetically I went for the knightfall 66, how would you suggest I use it? As a designated overdrive pedal to kick it up a notch from my standard tone, which includes a tech 21 vt bass? OR, would you use it in place of the tech 21 vt bass for warmth and suggest I look at another overdrive pedal?
16. That's an interesting idea, especially as you're sing it/them as I would. You'll have to tell me how you get on when your cog rolls up!
17.
I play a Stingray, and a Jazz. They sound ridiculously good through my COG Knightfall 66, in fact I have the low gain channel always on. I also sold my Catalinbread SFT after I got this, if that's any indication?
People really plug cog effects round here don't they? The trouble is I wouldn't be able to try out a knightfall before buying one - at least bass direct are a darkglass dealer. I do agree with you about the b3k, far too fizzy sounding for my liking. That's why I was looking at the b7k as a designated dirt pedal, well either that or the vmt. I've heard good things about the sft, but I think with my standard tone including a vt bass pedal, that would be a bit too much. By the way, does anybody have any experience with the ashdown nm2? It's interesting because you can set two different overdrive sounds, which would work for what i'm after.
18. Thanks Anyone play a stingray and have any experience with any of the darkglass offerings?
19. Does it work with active basses?
20. Hi guys, Me and my vt bass are very happy together. BUT, I like to add some grit sometimes, so I'm looking for an overdrive or possibly fuzz pedal that would pair well with the VT. An overdrive pedal that I would use every now and then, when the VT Bass would stay "on" all the time, since it's my amp simulation. What do you think? Was considering the b7k - b3k too fizzy for me - but everyone on talkbass seems to use it like a slightly dirty pre, and that's not what I'm after. Was looking at the vmt, and the ashdown nm2 as well because of the active input and being able to set 2 distortion sounds. The reason I say possibly fuzz is that, I probably am looking for an od pedal but I am considering one fuzz pedal. The black arts toneworks pharaoh really caught me off guard, can hit some great distortion sounds, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVMe_BRrkVI This is used with an active bass alongside a vt and I think it sounds good. So what do you think? Anyone have any experience of these pedals? Are there any pedals I haven't and should be considering? Any advice would be much appreciated
21. I'm beginning to look around at effects to use with my stingray. I'm thinking of either getting the tech 21 vt bass, and a pedal for heavy distortion fuzz, like the darkglass vintage or the bat pharaoh, or getting a pedal like the ashdown nm2 or ebs billy sheehan pedal. Anybody have experience with either of those pedals with an active bass?
22. Do you think this would sound good with a stingray? Looking at getting a tech 21 vt bass pedal to hit ratm and rhcp sounds, but maybe this would work better.
23. ^agreed, both about no pics and the 3eq. The 2nd pickup on an hh 'ray is amazing too!
24. When I get a 5 string, if I can ever afford one I'm getting a spector 5lx:
