1. Yeah I definitely prefer 12's, I think for a minute I had doubts but I think the Bergantino is winning. That being said there's the new Genzler 212T that might be worth a look. So you view distortion from the comp as a good thing? What does that distortion sound like? I think that's where the Darkglass edges the Cali as it sits happily at 9v.
2. Same haha! Well it was going to be a CN212, someone's put a bit of doubt in my mind though.I'm a big guy - 6'2 - nad this guy on talkbass was saying he had one and it was playing into the backs of his knees so he swapped it for two CN 210's. Don't really want to be messing round with 2 cabs though. Does the Cali do ok on 9v? Just because I'd be using a pedaltrain volto to power it and I play a stingray so quite hot.
3. Beafist well I will be in the exact same boat, hopefully will soon be getting my hands on a Markbass LM Tube & a Bergantino CN212 - uber clean rig. One of the big reasons I'm looking at comps is for the added warmth - maybe I'd be better off with the CB. Just need Bongo to post that review!
4. That tells me all I need to know, cheers Storky. Just need to get over its looks.
5. Cool, it's not an easy decision as I think both would do the job I want. If you had to put your finger on it what was it about the cali that edged it?
6. Cool. I'm looking at comps at the min, though realistically It will be a couple of months before I buy one. I was looking at this one, as well as the Darkglass and was also considering the Ovni Smoothie. Obviously waiting on Bongo's review of the CB but I think the Darkglass is leading for me, I like that it attenuates the highs a bit and fattens the low end.
7. That 'magic' that it adds to your sound, is that the kind of sound you think people mention when people talk about the diamond bass comp?
8. Not a new bass I know, but I love the look and sound of the cabronita but haven't got to try one. Does anybody know of a video where a cabronita and a regular p are played alongside each other and compared? Or does anybody own/has anybody owned both and could describe the differences in sound? Thanks
9. I'm looking at a compressor in part for dealing with dynamics (being a finger player), but one of the main reasons is for tone. I play a bright bass and will shortly be investing in a markbass head and bergantino cab - a very transparent amp rig. I like it that way, but in some scenarios I will be cutting through too much. As a result, I'm looking at coupling a DI pedal and a compressor to warm up my sound. I'm looking at the likes of the Darkglass Supersymmetry, Mad Professor Forest Green, Ovnifx Smoothie & Origin Cali76 CB. All the above fatten and warm up the sound, adding a bit of oomph. Go on bass-pedals.com, they do great sound clips where I can at least here a difference.
10. I get a bit nervous when drilling is involved, installed a set of locks on my stingray but they were Ernie Ball so I used the same screws. Are the straploks my best bet?
11. Thanks Dad3353. How difficult was it installing the dunlop strap buttons? Did you have to re-drill the holes for the screws, or did the dunlop screws go straight in? Just tookthe pics, are they standard strap buttons?
12. Hi, my dad plays a Hofner Violin bass and has mentioned he wanted some strap locks for it. I thought it was a good opportunity for a christmas present. Trouble is I have no idea where to start! I have locks on my stingray, but they're quite substantial. Anybody got any recommendations or ideas?
13.
They stop the booming that you can get on some stages. I`ve not got one but did use one at the Herts Bass Bash - a before and after kindof thing, and it was very apparent at what it does. Seemed just like adding in a compressor/limiter to control hard-hitting, suddenly the tone really comes through without the associated "flub".
I bet that would be good then for like wooden/hollow stages.
14. I've heard those gramma pads been mentioned a lot, what's the main benefits of using one?
15. I'm a bit like you - I have a stingray and it's a keeper, but I'd like to get in on the p bass-goodness. For a thick neck I think dannybuoy is on the money with the classic 50's precision. A curve ball might be the fender cabronita? Real thick neck, looks the sh*t and sounds p bass-esque, maybe a bit more low end.
16. Why did i have to see this I'm saving for a Bergantino CN212 but could now afford a vintage hot rod 70's jazz in CAR.
17. Yeah, if I'm honest I was thinking that. Ultimate Support it is then.
18. Attempting to revive this thread, it shall rise from the grave! I have a hanger-style hercules stand and love it, but because it doesn't fold it can be a bit awkward to move about and carry with my other gear. I've been looking at smaller stands, and I like the look of this cooperstand. Fold away very small and Drew fromGBBL says it's pretty sturdy. I'm also interested in the Hercules GS420B, anybody have experience of either/both of these stands? I want something that I can trust will stay upright, and if I'd have to place the cooperstand in front of my amp maybe I should just get an ultimate support gs 100 - like my current hercules stand but folds better. What do you think?
19. I've been lusting after an MIM one for a while now, stunning looking and sound bass. But I'd love to stick a set of nordstrand big singles into one, so probably not much point in looking at the U.S. version.
20. To anyone curious, I emailed Bugera asking what the rms for this head was. They said it's 500w at 4 ohms.
21.
I've had some atrocious basses made in America but we don't seem to tar them with the same brush. You should try one of these if you can and see what you think. The fit and finish are certainly not poor, in fact quite the opposite!
Fair point. Yeah would like to try one, don't know where I'd get the opportunity though. I'm supposed to be saving for a Bergantino CN212, god damn you GAS!
22. I've known people, including my Dad and friends, who have bought Chinese-made basses and the fit and finish was poor. Maybe I'm just being cynical, but if something seems too good to be true, it often is.
23. This finish would get my vote! A quality, versatile-sounding, great-looking at this price seems too good to be true. Not mad about it being made in China - still mighty tempting though.
24. You're on the right lines looking at Markbass amps - I have an LM Tube and love it! I'd suggest you look elsewhere for cabs though. I first started shopping a couple of months back and tried a few Markbass cabs, including 2 x traveler 121H, the 102P and 104HR. They sounded good, but they REALLY rolled of the highs. The 104HR is a weird shape too, it's so deep it's almost like a cube so it's pretty difficult to move (not heavy, just awkwardly-shaped). If you're looking at light gear, I'd suggest Barefaced and Bergantino gear - both really light. I personally don't like the sound of barefaced cabs, and you obviously need to try gear before buying, but a lot of other people on here do. When I've got the funds I'm going to buy a Bergantino CN212. It sounded incredible, with my LM Tube on clean and dirty settings.
25.
Idiotbox make some great looking pedals and I really like my Blower Box .......... I recently got a nasty DopeFX BobaFuzz wooly mammoth clone that looks pretty awesome too....
Idiotbox now make the blower box in a smaller enclosure, I know it's more convenient for pedalboard but I think this version looks so cool!
