1. This is the best-sounding board I've had in a very long time, absolutely chuffed with it. I used to put the comp at the start but I found I didn't like how harsh it made fuzzes sound so I put it at the end, what a difference! PHAT fuzz, plus octaver and chorus sound perfectly integrated thanks to even volumes. Loving it!
2.
TC Electronic Corona...v cool pedal!
+1. Loving mine. You get 2 chorus modes + toneprint. There are great bass player toneprints that really make this pedal shine on bass, plus TC have released the editor so you can design your own and even make it a flanger or vibrato instead of a chorus. The blend knob makes it brilliantly usable after distortion and helps retain low end clarity over clean tone.
3. Having had a TU-2 and now a Pitchblack, my problem with the Polytune is that it feels... cheap. Doesn't feel bombproof like the other two. I really dislike that cheap, easily scratched plastic they use for the screen, as opposed to the sturdy thick glass or whatever it is the other two use. And, I also prefer the Pitchblack's display. And poly (on the big version) seemed unreliable on bass for me, thinking sometimes I was on a 5-stringer when there were only 4 strings. It is faster though, I'll give it that.
4. I sold my M9 ages ago and have just realised I accidentally kept all the documentation that came in the box... The Pilot's Handbook, Model Reference, warranty card, etc, all wrapped in plastic. Feels like a waste to bin them so happy to send to anyone who covers cost of posting: £1.20 first class. Please PM if interested. Cheers.
5. I believe you, however I find the Blend knob invaluable... :/
6. That looks cool, wish I hadn't just bought the Deluxe Bass Big Muff!
7. Maybe it works for some reason with those, but high draw DSP pedals feed noise back into the cable so you shouldn't use the same PSA to power that and other transistor-based pedals. I definitely got the noise with a Godlyke Powerall, and also using the M5's PSA instead (there's enough current for it).
8. Hey, I've had an M9 and then an M5 for a few years and they're the best around IMO, beating the B3. Reverbs, delays, and modulations are brilliant and so is pitch shifting. Unlike what Ant said, you should NOT daisy chain this pedal unless you have an isolated output with at least 400mA. Daisy chaining adds digital noise to the signal, it's not nice at all and it's a known problem, there's even a Pedal Power Digital video using the M5 as an example. So you'll likely be using an additional power supply for it and that's one of the main annoyances that made me stop using these units. For reverb and delay you should have the M5 at the end of your signal chain, for pitch you should have it early, it needs a clean signal to track. A compressor before will help too. Shifting pitch up will always sound weird so having some distortion after it hides the weirdness a bit.
9.
I've been truly ripped off already! Tuesday morning I had to go into local 'village' so I visited the PO that I don't normally use. I put my parcel on the scales, (113g), asked for "1st class signed for" & put what was the correct money £3.65 in the tray. The old fool at the counter looked at the coins & said "you'll need more than that" Why? I said & at the same time noticed a new 'Small Parcel' guage on the counter, which my parcel passed through easily, only 23 x 12 x 5 cm, the allowance is up to 45 x 35 x 8 cm < 2 kg £6.75 he said, it's all gone up over the weekend. I said "it was April 1st yesterday, you're joking aren't you?" No he said, that's what it costs now, I've been having this with customers all morning, mostly gone up by 100%. I said you must be joking 'cos the PO won't be here next week if they've done that! Not joking - do you want to send it or not? - He was getting cross with me! I'll have to, I've promised it'll be sent today, said I & found the extra £3.10. The receipt shows the time 11:25, weight 0.113 kg, Signed for 1st parcel £6.75. I was absolutely gobsmacked at this, right annoyed & aggravated - livid - feckin angry even! Got home & checked online to find I had been charged for a Medium Parcel! The Small Parcell cost should have been £4.10, even that is a 12.5% increase but I can live with that I suppose, not that it's justifiable. I returned to the PO & waited to see the same idiot that had robbed me! Long story short - I argued my point for 1/2 an hour, he was quite rude & angry, turned red & shouting while refusing to do anything about it, it was too late to prove it the collection had gone at 12:00, it was now 13:00. I stayed calm & made my points well I think although I was boiling inside & felt like giving him some serious verbal - I didn't - not a bad word. He threatened to call the police - I said yes please do, you're the thief here, I'm the victim. Then I realised there was only one side they were going to come down on, I was obviously going to get nowhere, so I wrote down his name - above the counter on a big sign, he is the postmaster! I have made an official complaint to the 'Post Office Counters' complaints dept. & am waiting their response. From now on I will only use my regular Post Office, 1/2 mile in the other direction from my house but with the nicest friendly polite counter staff you could hope for. The old fool in the Sidley PO needs putting out to grass, or sh---ing! Cheerz, John
Good on you man... Most people don't bother to do sh*t, that's why they keep doing whatever they want. My beef is with them slipping a note to collect the parcel from the depot when I was home waiting for it and they never rang. Complained every single time to the manager, made a difference... Every now and then they go back to it, have to keep the pressure up!
10. To my ears the B3 colours the sound in an unpleasant way when bypassed, so I lost interest in this.
11.
This is my (disassembled) board and bits.
Can I buy that from Revell?
12. I'd love to have this chorus but £170 is more than I can justify for this type of effect
13. This sounds really good! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuP6h7Yozes&feature=youtu.be
14. I used a 25k Ernie Ball VP Jr for a long time with it and it worked beautifully. I had it for sale with the M5 but unfortunately it sold before you bought it... Before that I also had a Bespeco one but got rid of it, very unreliable. Since the Line 6 ones are pretty much the same, I'd avoid them.
15. EBS Octabass black label in excellent condition, with box and manual. £50 + postage (£6) or collect from London E11 (Leytonstone). Trade/part-trade options: MXR Analog Chorus / Bass Chorus Deluxe Mooer phaser / chorus / flanger EHX Stereo PolyChorus TC Electronic Polytune / Polytune Mini EHX Bass MicroSynth MXR Bass Envelope Filter A MIDI foot controller An expression pedal
16. All sold.
17. M5 now £75!!!!
18. M5 now £80.
19.
Pretty minimal set up made from an old camping table top. These are the only two effects I'm currently interested in but I may add an octaver and find room for the compressor at some point.
That is one odd choice of pedals
20. Replied.
21. I highly recommend a Line 6 M5, and not just because I'm selling mine I also had a B3 at home a couple of times and felt the same as you about it, always went back to the M5, which is much simpler, just like a single stompbox with 5 knobs max, except you can alternate between dozens of stompboxes Or alternatively, if you want to use more than one effect at once, you could get the M9 or M13. The chorus and all the modulations are brilliant. When I had an M9 before, the Tube Compressor effect was always on, it's a great sounding and simple compressor with 2 knobs. As for overdrive, not much of it is great IMO but I never ever like distortions in digital multi-fx, so maybe that's just me... But you have loads of famous distortions modelled in there. No amp sims in the unit and the synths are kind of poor on bass but so what, just skip over them
22. VP Jr sold, Red Ripper and M5 still available.
