Could someone post a picture of the Pedaltrain bag?
1976fenderhead replied to 1976fenderhead's topic in Effects
I've had both and still have the new one, it is no more padded really but it does have semi rigid plastic plates inside it that keep stuff safe, I can post a picture tonight but I don't see the point
Hmm, I'd still appreciate it... So if you hold the bag, you don't get knobs poking the front of it risking being hit sideways by the edge of a door or something? -
Hi, I'm wondering if someone who has bought a Pedaltrain recently could do this... I bough one of the 1st that came out, but I sold it when the bag (which was very thin and not padded enough) started falling apart. I see their pictures of the new bags (with a pocket on the front) and they seem like they have better padding. I'd like to see a picture that's not from them (coz they always fill them up to make them look solid)... If the padding is indeed improved and protective enough, I might get one... Thanks in advance!
What Sansamp would you recommend? Bass Driver DI?
I'm very curious about the New VT Bass... Have a listen. The last setting sounds promising: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot6jQTYdSCY There's also the Para Driver which some people prefer because it has a Mids knob (like the VT Bass, unlike the Bass Driver)...
are you kidding me??? iv owned both, at the same time, and the bottom end of the odb-3 is just far better and more defined than the pd7, which sounds like a behringer in comparison imo. how can you say that it 'dumps the bass out of your sound' when it has a wet/dry blend AND a low eq boost?! the pd7 definatly wasnt for me, i found the distortion to be too high middy, which i hate, but of course one man's carragher is another man's ferdinand...
LOL here we go gain... IMO The PD7 is the best you can buy for that kind of price. That's some PHAT, punchy, LOW-mid-rich distortion. I think you need to buy a bigger combo. Downsides are it kills the dynamics a bit (sounds overly compressed). The Distortion setting is very good, the Overdrive setting is ok but the Attack setting is useless. I think neither the PD7 or the ODB-3 lose low end. However, the ODB-3 ADDS high end, so maybe that's why people have that impression. But all this is irrelevant to the topic at hand, as I don't think you can get even closer to that tone with any of them...
Sounds to me like a driven Ampeg. I would have thought they've double tracked it, one channel naughty like that, the other somewhat cleaner blended through the verses and chorus to keep the warm bottom end then obviously exposed for those quieter parts but whadda I know...
+1, sounded like 2 channels like that on the verses to me too... Don't know about chorus though, didn't notice it through my bad headphones at work...

Sounds like it's just an overdriven SVT to me. You could get that sound with any other valve amp I suppose, at least I get that sound (or close) when I use Orange... Try some amp simulators...
Wow, it appears I sparked a debate. Intresting read, still doesn't help haha.
Hey, I put some sound samples of the T-Rex there man, could only help you more if I drove it to your house!
indeed, point is, i love the odb-3 and mxr blowtorch, if people dont agree with me, then simply say that you dont in your opinion, n thats just dandy start saying that i like bad tone, and il flame you like a bitch
Isn't "IMO" a bit redundant to be typing every time, it's always IMO, as no-one is god here, I think it's kind of implied. It makes sense you like the Blowtorch if you like the ODB-3. It's just the kind of tone you like... bad tone... IMO!
I don't think there's such a thing as 'bad tone'. Every tone has a home somewhere. Depends on the style of music, and what other people are playing around you. So there's 'bad tone for the situation', but not 'bad tone'. As evidence I present this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLr5EXyoQCE
All fair points mate. Sh*t I like those guys! I wish some English bands would revive this kind of thing, instead of all the rubbish they recycle these days... All those "Indie" bands need some balls like these guys!
if you think that dude, id just stick to cranking your ampeg
No thanks, very happy with my real life SWR gear ;-)
justify that. they are entirly different pedal, i mean seriously they are nothing at all alike
They have the same kind of crappy sounding distortion, and they are both very consistent in that no matter how much you turn their knobs, they always sound like cr*p. The Blowtorch looks way cooler though, I'll give you that, nothing at all alike...
It depends what kind of sound you want, but if you want something really vicious and aggressive with a hint of some smooth distorted harmonics, then you won’t get more bang for you buck than with a Little Big Muff. For £45 new I think they’re possibly the best value for money distortion on the market at the moment. Try one with bass, you can’t go too wrong for that kind of money…
Didn't really work for me (same as the Bass Big muff), it adds excessive lows which sound muffled and undefined IMO. I still vouch for any Russian model...
i'm impressed...makes me wonder why TRex don't have any decent samples online, i think it would sell a lot better.
It actually sounds a lot better live too... When you set your amp to have just that little bit too much Bass so that you take advantage of the room's natural reverberation, so you have those extra lows that you can hear and FEEL but can't really replicate in the kind of direct recording I did... It's creamy distortion heaven!
-
Between those 2 I'd go for the Bass Big Muff, but I tried it and I still prefer the Russian version...

Here are a couple of samples recorded with the American Deep amp sim (basically, an SVT sound) setting in Logic Pro and an MIA Jazz Bass Deluxe with everything neutral except slight emphasis on neck pickup: 1 file played with fingers, Gain and Mix at around 1 or 2 o'clock, Tone and Level at 12. The other file played with pick, Gain and Tone at around 10 o'clock, Mix and Level at 12. 1st part of recording clean, 2nd part distortion and 3rd w/Boost.

I have the T-Rex and LOVE IT. Will post sound samples later for you if possible. Best distortion of the dozens I tried. I settled for it long ago and never looked back (although now am using fuzz so don't have it on my board). I tried the Blowtorch and hated it. Like and expensive ODB-3 if you ask me...
Pro's and con's for Pedaltrain/Tone Trunk vs Diago
Pedaltrain: Pros: You can fit more pedals because you don't have to find room for the cables, you just pass them underneath. It all looks neater. You can even fit a small enough power supply underneath it. You can also have a pedal flush to the side of it and you'll still be able to plug the jack because it doesn't have a little wooden frame all around... Great customer support. Cons: Soft bag not protective enough (at least in my model, which was the earliest one, have they upgraded the bags' padding? They seem better now on the pics...). I kept hitting pedals' knobs on things when carrying them in the bag... Hard case is way out of a normal budget... Diago: Pros: Hard case for a good price. Great customer support. Cons: Carpet on mine came off almost immediately, not well glued enough. Reglued it myself. Size specs were slightly smaller than advertised so my wah is pressing on the foam and ruining it. If you fit pedals with low plugs too close to the side frame you can't plug a jack in them, so you have to move them in and waste all that room (or make up some sort of raiser and stick underneath it). More work to wire the cables as they take a lot of room. If I was to buy one now, I'd try Spider out.

Woohoo gots me one of these! :-p Now with sound samples!!

Tracking is nearly perfect. Some parts of the effect track with chords and some don't, can't remember which but it's detailed in the manual... I just notice if I start playing a lot of chords or crazy dissonant sounds it tends to cut the notes sharply to silence... I think it doesn't know exactly what to do when weirder sounds start decaying and just cuts them... Only noticeable with loooong notes. The sliders feel very balanced and sturdy. -
Compression has the (sometimes) unwanted effect of reducing highs. Some compressors compensate for it, others don't!
Really? Interesting... Also, the 105q has a volume knob, and I like to have it so it's a tiny bit louder than normal sound... Compressor after it kind of ruins that. I've just done a lot more testing following this discussion and stuck to it. Compressor before wah still works best for me! -
Hi all, I had the privilage of using an EH White finger compressor whilst recording a couple of weeeks ago & since been looking to get one but have since seen there's a black finger which has 2 valves. Has anyone tried one of these & are they any good? Also inerested to hear anything about the EH bass micro synth? Post your pedal board - Basschat style!!
1976fenderhead replied to dudewheresmybass's topic in Effects
Thought I was done, but EHX had to make new pedals! Out of the board at the moment (but keeping them because they're brilliant) are an Ernie Ball volume pedal, a T-Rex Bass Juice and a Boss BF-2 Bass Flanger. Well, this last one isn't that brilliant, but it's more evident on clean sound than the Rocktron, so keeping it for now... -

Here are some soundclips! Fender Jazz Deluxe MIA with slight emphasis on neck pick-up, everything else flat + amp&cab simulation and compressor from Line 6 Gearbox (my standard clean sound).
