Audio Kitchen Small Trees Tube DI - light studio use never gigged. Bought as a backup but never used. These are £487.50 new from the website and are a cheaper alternative to buying a Noble! Comes with a power supply. Free pickup or add £10 for next day registered delivery. Any Q's Pm. Would part-ex towards a HX Stomp or with cash my way for a Cioks DC7. Thanks

Some mad rhythmic groupings on those charts - makes reading semi-quaver grooves ‘fun’ that’s for sure!

Thanks man! Video definitely helped by the decent lighting on stage

Doing Rock of Ages all week, on stage. Not my normal vibe and first time playing with wound rounds in about a decade. Fun though! Opening night insta.mov

I'd honestly be thinking two basses here with an A/B switcher? A P bass with old flats / maybe some foam and a Jazz or P with new (or new-ish) rounds will allow you to cover most musical situations quickly and easily without loads of faffing on with EQs etc. Fingers etc can only do some much in my experience. I use a Bright Onion dual input box with this exact approach for functions / theatre work / whatever else comes along.

Apologies, it was late and I missed what you were actually saying there. Yes apparently they do, I have a couple and they are pretty good though I think I more impressed with just how robust they are than anything!
-
Well millions would say otherwise!! Depends on the DI you use of course but every DI will colour to a lesser or greater degree your sound and as far as I’m concerned is a pretty integral part of any bass players overall sound. Otherwise you put your sound at the mercy of whatever DI box a venue has (could be decent, often isn’t!). I’ve got various DIs that all do a different job and I’ll often use a different one depending upon the gig / sound required.
-
Normally a DI pedal would go right at the end of the chain so you can this send you final signal (incl. compression) to FoH. It might be that a decent EQ pedal would be of more use here to do what you're looking for. But also, if you have a four band Stringray shouldn't that allow you to dial in that tone on the bass itself? Might be worth sharing your current signal path so we can see how it's all looking?

Thanks! Yup you can get little clamps that just attach on the end. Very useful little things

Depped for a pro Pink tribute band at a great venue in Newcastle. Here’s a little headstock footage of the one “bass solo” esque moment plus a rocking end to the song. FullSizeRender.MOV

Yup - except it was a mad big band arrangement so knowing the actual Sir Duke was of previous little help unfortunately!

Last night I was depping for a NE based big band - it was an absolute roast sight-reading these charts having never seen / heard them before! Still I managed to quite myself pretty well! SSBB Sr Duke.mp4

I think maybe I then bought this? Who knows if it's the same cab (he has three!), either way great comms, super quick delivery (cab packed great) and item exactly as described. I'm a very happy bass player, what a cab. Thanks Rob, another fab member of this great community of bass players.

A level of music theory I wish I possessed
dodge_bass replied to MiltyG565's topic in General Discussion
I love crotchets and training wheels. Knowing about these has kept me in work as a professional musician who can read music, understand theory and ‘hear’ well. It’s all part of the same thing, they can’t be separated out and certainly I’d be wary of denigrating them so readily in public!- 78 replies

You’re right about the chromatic alterations but nothing in this sequence suggest a change of key so best to not approach it like that when you think about it because you lose sight of the bigger picture - I.E it’s just a slightly cheeky chord sequence in the key of G major. Chord iii is pretty common actually; perhaps less common is chord three as dominant chord rather than a minor chord. Chord IV going to IV minor is a very common alteration popularised by the Beatles - it’s just a more interesting way of getting back to the I chord (G in this instance). So really its ultimate just a I - IV chord sequence (very common!) with a little variation to make it a bit more interesting to the listener. -
