1. Hi I will have this. Can you PM so we can sort out details. Mike
2. I have had tennis elbow in both arms and agree it can be really debilitating, even holding a cup of tea was painful. What worked for me was a combination of physio, massage and anti inflammatory tablets. It has now cleared on both arms. I have no pain playing bass or doing any lifting. My advice is to get your doctor to recommend you for physio on your arm, they will show you the simple exercises you can do at home as well as the muscle massage you can also do. It does take time but it will clear as long as you keep up with the exercises. In the meantime anti inflammatory tablets and good elbow support will help.
3. Can you add me to the list please. This will be my first Bass Bash. May bring my Yamaha BB1024x. This will be my first bass bash so really looking forward to it
4. Just done a trade with Kev for his bass cab. Really pleasant enthusiastic guy who went out of his way to bring the cab straight to me. Great communication, no faffing around. Wouldn't hesitate to deal with Kev again. Great bass chatter
5. I may pop into my my local music shops if they have these in stock and see if there is any vibration coming from the Ashdown badge. If there's no vibration present or I can stop it coming from the badge then they may be coming home with me. Thanks for the advice.
6. I never considered the badge could of been at the root of the vibration issue before. The Evo cabs have a fabric grill rather than the metal one on them but I suppose the badge could still vibrate on that as the fabric is quite taught across the front. Hope that is the issue with these cabs as the price, weight and size ticked all the boxes for me.
7. I've had a very mixed experience with these cabs. I tried the 2x10 combo and 1x15 in Dawson's and they sounded great. Would of happily bought them there and then but I needed a 2x10 cab and not a combo.unfortunatley Dawson's would not be getting one in stock for over a month. Being impatient I went home and ordered the 2 cabs from GAk. On arrival the size and weight of the cabs ticked all the boxes for me. The problem started once I plugged them in. The 2x10 gave out the most horrendous farting/buzzing noise whenever I played an A note. The 1x 15 also buzzed but not as bad as the 2x10. I tried different amp heads, but the problem remained. I tried my Mark bass 1x15 and genz Benz 2x10 and there was not a hint of buzzing when I used my old cabs. This seemed to prove the fault lay with the Ashdown cabs, which were returned the next day to GAK and got a full refund as they had no replacements in stock. A few weeks latter I saw the same cabs in Rimmers Music and tried them out with TC BH500 amp head. The 2x10 cab had a faulty speakon connector and the 1x15 was buzzing and vibrating in the shop. The sales guy confirmed he could hear it too and it was local to the cab rather than something else in the store vibrating. Bottom line was I love the weight and size of these cabs but I have lost confidence in buying them now. Did try the Fender Rumble 1x15 combo with a 4x10 cab as a comparison and it sounded fantastic.
8. Vauxhall Zafira. Fully flexible seat folding. Rear seats fold flat to leave a massive Van like loading area. No idea what there like to drive or reliable but they certainly fit the bill for moving lots if equipment around. They also seem to be pretty cheap to pick up second hand
9. Paul can you PM your postcode so I can get an accurate cost for delivery. Mike
10. Hi Paul, do you have any idea what the postage to Merseyside would be
11. Hi, would you prepared to ship this.
12. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it.
13.
Have you seen the review above with Nathan King (Marks Brother) above .
I have seen the review with Nathan King but I felt that most of it was aimed at the amp and its various features. Apart from expressing how little the two cabs weighed I don't think they had that much to say other than their power rating. I am hoping to try some out for myself, but until I get the chance I will put my faith in the opinions and reviews expressed on here
14. I am considering going for the Ashdown 2x10 and 1x15 cabs to use with my Trace Elliot 300w SMX. The weight of the cabs is ideal but I have not been able to find any revues on these cabs. The alternative for me would be the Fender Rumble 2x10 and 1x15. Both of these are a tad heavier but they get a lot of positive feedback from owners.
15.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdGPhQPATPg A wee video ofmyg band from Austin Texas, at South by South West this year. Great fun... considerin it was at half 3 in the afternoon!
great stuff really enjoyed that
16. I did a gig recently and had a pretty catastrophic failure with my Yamaha 424x. When the Barrel Style Jack socket decided to throw its hand in. It wasn't a wiring issue that could of been repaired with a soldering iron, it was a component failure. The bass had been fine for the sound check but dead as a dodo for the start of the set. Luckily I always carry a spare bass with me so just plugged that one in and carried on with the gig. Replaced the faulty barrel Jack socket the next day and the bass sprung back to life. Quite a fiddly job to replace the barrel Jack and not something I would ever carry with my spare strings, cables, battery's etc
17. I have the older 25W model and it's absolutely perfect for my needs. Can't recommend them enough
18. I have used it and found it pretty useful, lets you get a reasonable thumbnail sketch of the song that you can play along with. Once you conversant with the changes you can then work out the more interesting or subtle bits, or like me make your own bit up
19.
The output stage. I think volume isn't the issue..they can be loud enough but I feel they lack authority. Having sad that..plenty of amps do which is why my alternative to my class D is a big block with a heavy (very) heavy transformer in it. I was having this discussion with an amp designer of quite a reverered brand and he said the same thing. As much as he wanted to have a class D option, he couldn't find that that worked as he wanted at his price point. So, I get the impression that Class D doesn't work for bass, IMO, unless yu have a very capable (expensive) power stage which kind of floats against 99% of the bass market, at present..?? Thanks for your opinions and advice. Will be looking to change my current set up soon, so don't want to buy something that's going to run out of steam or sound thin
20. Without wishing to derail the OPs thread, what reservations to people have with class D amps. Assuming that it's nothing to do do with the weight and portability off the class D what other issues do you have with solid state or valve amps
21. I have found my Farida FJB-20 to be top draw in terms of quality, sound and playability. Is a little on the heavy side but sits nicely with a good wide leather strap. I also have the Farida Precision FPB-18 which is a match for anything in its price range and has one of the slimmest necks I have come across.
22. Brand new model is £390 from PMT online. Worth considering
