  1. It was my first experience of fan frets, and it was much less of a difference than it imagined. Upper register chords would take some work though, I was in knots up there. Amazingly flexible in terms of sound though.
  2. Ah, so it was you we were chatting to this afternoon. 🤣 That was an amazing bass, great choice. If I wasn't playing mostly upright at the moment, I'd have been sorely tempted We were there for the drum show, which was fairly busy, fairly well laid out, and pretty inspiring, from the point of view of the shows and masterclasses. The BD stand seemed to be the saving grace of the bass bit. Man, Mr Dingwall just makes you want his basses without even trying. I was a bit shocked at how sparse the whole thing was, and how many stands had just packed up and gone by early Sunday afternoon. I guess it's going to take a while for things to get back on track in the 'living with covid' world.
  3. Maray looks cool, might have to have a look at that. Dinner bookings are already on a standby list though.
  4. Tidy, that's between the show and the hotel!
  5. Congratulations Fella.... Nicely done!
  6. Cheers! I'd already made a mental note of them based on the description on the website.
  7. Definitely on the list if the shows are rubbish. 🤣
  8. Thanks! We're just round the corner from the Cavern and had intended to visit, but a band recommendation makes it even better. We've booked for lunch at Mowgli, as recommended by @casapete... No chance of a dinner booking.
  9. I booked the Drum Show for the Mrs back in early 2020, so that's what we're there for mostly. Worth bearing in mind that they've said that wristbands for either will be accepted in both, so if it's all a nightmare shredfest, you can always pop next door... I know which I'd prefer out of the two. Some of the drum masterclasses are well worth the time as a bass player.
  10. Gutted to find out that Stanley Dee, the Steely Dan tribute (obvs) are playing just up the road tonight and I have something else booked. 😥 Next for us is Sting at the Palladium on Easter Saturday, followed by the odd, arco bass stylings of Shri Sriram, as part of the Watford Jazz Festival.
  11. I had a Fishman Platinum Pro EQ from Andy. The whole thing couldn't have been easier, faster or friendlier. Paid, waited a day, received unit safe and sound. Cracking packing job and great communication.
  12. As it happens, I am... and 3 minutes walk from the Hotel! Thanks a lot
  13. So we're off to the Drum Show at the weekend (and I hear there's a show covering both flavours of guitar next door too). I honestly don't think I've ever been to the City as an adult. We're heading up Friday evening, staying quite near the Cavern for a couple of nights, and would be interested in any local band type venues nearby, Jazz, Rock, Reggae, whatever, it's all good. Any other advice on eating/drinking places, or must see things would be great too. TIA
  14. Calling @lurksalot. I think the poll might be messed up. It only seems to let me select 1 tune from this fine selection.
  15. Us too. My mate is flying down from Scotland to see them.... He lived in London when I bought the tickets! 😅
  16. That's got to be a beast. I did 95% of the guitar on our last album on a 1979/1980 Westbury Standard. All the serious guitars in the studio racks, and there was nothing to touch it. Some phenomenal instruments came out of that factory around that time
  17. My contribution to the March 2022 Basschat Composition Challenge. Inspired by the picture chosen by the previous winner - Skank Del Var. Inspired by the colours, the times in which we live, the thought of bits of kids being sent to do a job that's not at all what they were told, and the story of a very brave old woman. Tech wise.... Bass is EUB, interesting in a rock setting, having no sustain and being a bit of a pig to play, but I guess those limitations shaped the line. Recorded through the Helix, as were the Guitars. The harmonics bit is the Shuker, straight into the interface and otherwise unsullied. Drums courtesy of MT Power Drums, and keys 'Straight Outta Cubase' (Elephants 10).
  18. ... Soundcloud issues!🤔
  19. Not much help but I assume they changed suppliers. My Jake 5p came with Maruszczyk Nickel strings and I liked them so bought a few more packs, these were all unsilked as you describe. I ordered more when they ran out, a year or so later and the new ones came with red silk, and a slightly rougher feel. I carried on using them though, as they sound fine, last well enough, and they're inexpensive... But they're definitely different strings to the original ones.
  20. That doesn't sound like a rattle from the bass to me, it like a fizzing from the mic.
  21. I bought an off the peg Elwood L5 back in early 2016, and based on the quality of that I ordered a Jake p5+ later that year. Other basses have come and gone, but I still have both of them. The Jake particularly is always my first choice, I'll admit I have considered getting rid of the Elwood... but only so I could replace it with a second Jake. Neither have ever given me a moments trouble, and both sound great, recorded or live.
  22. That sounds tidy!
  23. Nice one! A quality tune in a tough field!
  24. It's in the next room to the Drum Show, I'd still take earplugs!🤣
  25. Seriously hoping someone has the good sense to snap this up while I'm still away on holiday with the kids, I'm tired of seeing it pop to the top and thinking how good it would look next to my other Jake 5p MM/P, and could do without triggering the one in - one out rigmarole. Especially as next on the block would have to be my Elwood L5. 😭🤣 Come on folks, get it gone!
