  1. That's one of the tunes that's always touted as an example of funky slap.... and it's alright, suits the song, etc.... It's just not my kind of groove. It's not funky like Flashlight funky, it's not funky like What is Hip? funky, it's not funky like Superstition funky.... It's just not my kind of funky.
  2. Dear God! If a R*ckenbacker f*£$%d a Fodera and the offspring was dropped on it's head as a baby bass. Don't let John Hall see that top horn or headstock... he'll sue. Having said that, he can only dream of that level of build quality!
  3. I do have a bunch of pic discs in my Mum's loft, I must get to go through them one of these days. I know some were reasonably rare. When I was very young I bought Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Welcome to the Pleasure Dome, gatefold, that had side one on both sides of disc one... Like a fool it went back to Woolies!
  4. The only thing I have against slap is the sound of it. Even in the hands of a master it just sounds like a novelty parlour trick to me. I can't think of a piece of music that I love that has slap in it.
  5. My contribution to this month's composition challenge, inspired by the image selected by last month's winner, bobbass4k.
  6. A brilliant deal (and a top bloke to deal with). I'm pretty much committed to the Helix now, and sat on a ton of pedals, from budget to boutique, but when I get round to moving them on it's my Dapper that's staying as backup. The Octaver is the OC-10, the filter is phenomenally useable, the compressor is musical and the chorus is.. erm... a chorus. It's obscene what this thing does for practically no money!
  7. *Closes Cubase, unplugs computer and pours a beer* Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner! 😎
  8. Hmmm ... Best to stick to the root!
  9. Looks awful.... I love it! Obviously good for metal. 🤘
  10. If you have an xlr to jack I'd definitely be tempted to have a play around, it'll cost nothing to try. There are preamp type things in there, with some nice reverbs available too... It's entirely possible that with an hours plating you could fluke a result.
  11. I'm going to skip the overrated bit, cos the subjectivity involved tends towards meanness. There's shedloads of stuff I don't like or don't get, some obviously decent, some obviously crap. Underrated - I'll never understand why the Wildhearts aren't bigger than they are. Album after album of great tunes, and a phenomenal live act at their best. Ditto Jellyfish. Spilt milk is a work of art, it should have been everywhere at the time, but it was largely ignored. As soon as spring comes around I'm drawn to listening to it, and it's as perfect now to me as it was on first listening. Trouble. The end of the 80s was a pretty stale time for the more traditional rock/metal scene IMO, and I bought the 1990 self titled album on spec, knowing nothing about it other than from the band shot on the front it might be my thing.... It was that day I discovered that it was possible to shoehorn groove into those kind of songs. 30 Years later and its still a favourite. I bought Soundgarden's Louder than Love and Alice in Chains' Facelift around the same time, and though more rooted in the past it still stood proudly alongside them for me.
  12. Given how they are for getting on stage late, it'll probably be September anyway!
  13. I got told to stay home on the Wednesday, and it would have been Stiff Little Fingers and Nev Staples on that Saturday... That's been rescheduled for September. This month would have been Nick Cave... That's now next April. 😭
  14. Everyone must be busy rehearsing and gigging.... Oh, wait...
  15. That was my first thought, but I noticed no discernible difference.
  16. Yup. Obviously I tried variations, plugging the Helix in elsewhere, ditto the laptop, removing all other plugs extensions, etc. But it's always been pretty cluttered in there, Amps, pedals, VDrums, outboard kit, etc, all without issue While it's obviously an earthing issue, it it the Helix that is the problem.
  17. I use a Steinberg UR22, which even with a 10 pedal board has always been pretty much silent. The helix is pretty noisy through that, that is to say that there's a lot of noise, it's not really that loud, I can zone it out after a while if I'm concentrating. That's mostly just whine and hum. The static sounds particularly are increased tenfold when I plug the Helix in via its usb cable. As I said, take the power supply out of the laptop and it all goes away, and it's only necessary to unplug it at the laptop end, I can leave it plugged into the mains, that's fine. Despite having a workaround it's still a bit irritating, if only for planting the seeds of doubt for if I were to encounter similar on a gig.
  18. I get the same (with an LT) whether going direct or going through a standalone interface, basically if it's hooked up to the computer in any way I get lots of background whine, buzz and rhythmic static. I found that if I unplug the charger from the laptop it all falls silent. Luckily I've got decent battery life, but I tend to tolerate it for practice and sorting sounds out, then pop the charging cable out for recording takes.
  19. Thanks! Must be on the proper desktop view... I'll check!
  20. Bugger... I didn't read properly and only voted for one... Anyone know how to start again?🤣
  21. There's still a tiny issue with Dad's track in that you can't click through to it off site... It plays fine in the browser though.
  22. When they develop one that can drive a van, set-up a PA and keep a drummer sober until after the gig, I'll start worrying.

    Holey Crap!😱
  24. I bought the fretless 5 of this, and it's a tidy bit of kit for almost no money. Sadly it's self isolating at my Mum's house atm.🙄
  25. Well that's a pain. Damn thing won't restore from backup!😖
