  1. I'm not sure classic rock refers specifically to the age or quality of a song. As far as I can tell, the two main criteria are that it is guitar based, and that you've heard it at least 25,000 times.
  2. Screw 'em... Get stuck into doing what speaks to you and let them do what they want. Don't give it a second thought. I've been fired twice. Early 90s, original band, BBC radio one sessions, big ticket supports, probably pushier than I should have been with the benefit of hindsight, fired and replaced with a 'mate'... Hello instant obscurity. Second time, very lucrative functions, mostly BFO, band gone 6 months later. It's usually other people's problems IME, just get on with getting on. Better people will come, better bands and better situations will come.
  3. Damn, a little too big for my needs. Thanks for your response and Merry Christmas!
  4. Thanks very much, i'd appreciate that. I did google, but there are a number of sizes.
  5. I bought the 5 string fretless version of that, as a cheap toe in the fretless water. It's not a boutique instrument, but honestly I'd gig it tomorrow without a single worry (if my fretless playing wasn't so laughably stinky poo).
  6. The Blockheads in Islington last night. They don't seem to have good nights and bad nights, they're so consistent and tight. NWRs sound was beautiful, the bite he gets is fantastic. I'm sure it's his right hand, he really swings those fingers at the strings.
  7. I don't think we can assist you in coming to the right decision unless we know what the bass in question is. I'd feel terrible knowing I'd prevented you from buying a Fodera for example, but equally terrible if I'd not helped prevent you from buying a 1976 Kay's Catalogue EB-1 copy.
  8. It's just a thing... An object! A beautiful, woody, shiny, glorious, thumpy, object. A wonderful sounding, smooth playing, stunning looking object. It probably won't make you sound better... but it might. It probably won't improve your playing... but it might. Just buy the damn bass. This time next year we'll not have a pot to p1ss in, bars on the window will be the norm, and they'll be rioting in the streets... But at least you can hide from our collapsing society and play something beautiful.
  9. You mean it's not about his plans for the weekend? 🤐 Honestly, I hate that I love that tune.
  10. Ditto Tramp the Dirt Down. The object may be dead, but the subject remains
  11. I picked up an Alexis DM6 kit for my boy. Given the potential kids have for going off the idea I went used for 120 quid. They're one of those things that folk buy, play for a week then realise it's not as easy as it looks so pack it back up, so there's plenty out there, practically unused. My drummer, who has the all singing, all dancing Roland kit was really impressed by the build and playability.
  12. Lee Sklar just announced over on FB too. Looks like a trip to the frozen wastelands of the North is now unavoidable.
  13. Thunder Road by Springsteen always lets me down. Beautiful, touching and evocative... Then completely goes to rat5hit at the end, as if they couldn't be bothered to think of an ending.
  14. Mike Stern and Jeff Lorber at 229 The Venue last night... Came away with a strangely disappointed feeling. Stern's tone, feel and endless capacity for improvisation were everything they should be, and Lorber's keys were great. I'd been so looking forward to Dennis Chambers and Jimmy Haslip, but it just didn't gel for me. I'd expected Chambers to blow me away, but it could have been anyone up there, it felt sloppy to me, often out of time, and just not great. Haslip was pretty much holding it all together, but he needed a more authoritative tone to fill that role. His playing was great, but the bass sound was just 'there'.
  15. Yes Please Bare wood - Black hardware - Maple fretboards - Extended range. No Thanks Paint (painted body with unpainted headstock is even worse) - Gold or Chrome hardware - Position Markers on the fretboard - Jazz types with bell plate but no scratchplate - Fivers with 2 over 3 heastocks (3 over 2 is fine)
  16. What about the NS Design WAV5 Radius? http://www.basscentre.com/ns-design-radius-bass-guitar/ns-design-wav5-radius-bass-metallic-crimson.html
  17. Sad to hear! Of all the folk on here, you've always belonged to the small group who seem musically and personally in synch with their band. Ultimately though, nothing is worth wrecking yourself over. Retreat, regroup, recover and see where it takes you. Best of luck.
  18. It's always Norm. It's not the Blockheads without him.
  19. Thanks! Oddly, I've just been looking at feet on amazon.
  20. Damn! Thanks folks... back to the drawing board then.😖
  21. Yeah, I know it's a long shot... But here goes. Is anyone using, or has anyone used, a Pedaltrain Metro 16 with a T Rex Classic power supply? The board looks ideal for my purposes, if there's enough space to fit the T Rex underneath. Cheers in advance! 🙃
  22. Jaco wasn't in 'em!🤣
  23. I did the same with the Mooer Tender Octaver, after I'd hacked in the Sub & Up for that... It was a long road.🤣
  24. The Valeton OC-10. I went through a bunch of octaves, up and down, looking for the right sound for our current project, that would also play nicely with the other pedals I need and be small enough to fit on the board. I knew within a couple of minutes it was the one.
