Caught him at Beautiful Days a couple of years ago and loved every minute. That voice is still spectacular, and really engaging on stage.

I honestly can't think of a better voice. RIP.

Do it! Katzenjammer use one to excellent effect. 😊

It all a really sad affair. My Jake5+P is the best P type I've ever played... built like a tank and tone for days. It's gutting to think that others might not get the same positive experience that I did.

It's sad to read this. I hope it's all just a blip, and that everything is sorted satisfactorily for everyone. I do wonder if it's an upscaling issue? BMW bikes were always renowned for build quality until Ewan McGregor did the Long Way round, after which everyone on their Grandmothers wanted a GS. The sudden increase in demand led to them turning out some real stinky poo for a short while, but they did go out of their way to turn it around. Both of mine are beautifully made, and I really hope they don't become victims of their own success. I'm gonna wait a little while for my Jazzus I think.

Leaving Florence on Monday only to miss...

As above, you're probably not missing much. I skipped a few years but touring Roots to Branches they were brilliant (Jonathan Noyce on Bass). Caught them at a couple of festivals since, the first time before they brought in the new singer, when they were just a half-ar5ed parody of themselves, then just after the new singer came... that was as bad. It made me sad. -
These are beautiful instruments. I was at an event as a punter and an artist friend (who's album I had played on) asked if I'd accompany his solo set. He'd already made equipment enquiries before he asked and the stage manager, who's band were playing later lent me his Bolin. It was the piezo only version and the sound was beautiful... so easy to play.

SHAPE (Strategic Headquarters other the Allied Powers of Europe), Mons, Belgium. Because young and troublesome bass playing civilians don't fully understand how 'on duty' military personnel are when they're 'off duty'. 😂

Best Jazz evah! 😂

Great series. Episode 2 was a real eye opener. So simple on the surface, so much detail below.

Nah... stinky poo tattoos eat into the benefits a bit. 😂

You're welcome! 😊 It was Basschat the introduced it to me some years ago... the circle is complete.😂

Another 'not a fan' of bass solos. But if it's an integral part of a song I'm good with that. I see Manring's 'The Enormous Room' has already been posted, which is beautiful, so I'll go with this one... solo is from about 3.40, but it only works for me in the context of the whole tune.

Beautiful! If it was one year earlier I'd be compelled to hate you. 😂 That mess around the bridge with the ashtray removed is wonderful, it looks amazing. I bet you can't put it down!

Caught the Cure in Hyde Park on Saturday. I'm not what you'd class as a fan, but the tickets came up on the Intranet noticeboard at work, and I realised that I'd never heard a song of theirs that I didn't like so I want for it. They were really good, they generated a wonderful atmosphere, the sound was great and the stage set spectacular. Comedy highlight of the day was down on the little bandstand stage, where I witnessed the worst band I've ever seen in 46 years (and I've seen, and loved, some awful bands). Kaelan Mikla, an all girl, post punk, synth pop type trio. People seemed to love them, but they were hilarious.

Great music that isn't about the bass

I lover it when Imagined Village go to town on a trad number... -
This past couple of weeks have been a revelation for me. My Elwood L5, from my oppressively hot flat, to the oven-like car, then an air conditioned practice room and back again.... And My Jake 5, from my partners', slightly less oppressively hot house, into an oven-like car, then into an air conditioned practice room.... both barely out of tune! Even my super cheap HB fretless 5 has barely moved. Looks like I got lucky.

The problem I have with podcasts is getting time to listen to them, so I don't usually bother. I had a lazy couple of hours today and I thought I should bother... so I did. It works for me! The history bit was nothing new to me but would be valuable to others, the Chowny interview was insightful, both from technical points and a real eye opener as to how much work goes in to getting things off the ground, plus how the right connections at the right time can make or break. I loved the blind test, a great idea... although I had a sneaking suspicion that it was going to be what it was. It was pretty comprehensive and clearly presented in terms of the adjustments being made. It's a potential winner. Congratulations to all involved.

Nooooooo! Did someone mention metronomes or groove again. Tool!

I'm not sure there are too many pickups that are an actual upgrade from the G&Ls, they're unique, versatile and pretty awesome. If it's just noise I'd get the wiring/pots refreshed, which won't cost much. If it's more than that, and you've just got to change, I'd sell it to someone who wants a G&L for what it does, and buy something else.

My quiet Sunday morning with coffee and the Mrs soundtrack is Mvnners at the minute, mostly the Camden album. I'm not sure what I love about it,only that I love something about it.

I know it's a different thing, and I'm always up for proper medicine where it's available, but my Brother was completely messed up with a weird form of tendonitis in his hands due to his job, and an old Indian guy at work recommended a paste of Tumeric and water daily (utterly disgusting), and it worked brilliantly for him in relieving the swelling and soreness. Also, My Mum (not a bass player), has badly messed up hands with Arthritis. For years she's been taking Glucosamine after a recommendation from a fellow sufferer. While her hands look really messed up, she suffers hardly any pain and her mobility is excellent despite their appearance. I hope you find something that works for you.
