1. Space Between Your Ears - Ozric Tentacles. It wouldn't have paid me, or attracted any fame, but it'd be worth it just to know created the soundtrack for so many... erm... experiences. 😊
2. You're in trouble. I have a Beautiful Elwood L5, which I adored. So much so that I thought a Jake 5 would be useful for backup and thumpier stuff... can't remember the last time the Elwood left the house now, must be over a year... that bloody Jake is an addiction.
3. Either Sunscape or Space Between Your Ears with Ozric Tentacles.
4. Bought a Bass Soul Food from Kevin. It couldn't have been easier. Smooth, friendly communication, and delivered to my door in no time. Thanks fella!
5. After strings for my acoustic in the only music shop in Harrow. He threw a pack of 11s on the counter... Me - have you got anything lighter? Him (with a sneer) - you mean heavier sir! Me... Bye! The shop is long gone.
6. Above, by Mad Season... the whole album. I'd bought it because of the Alice in Chains/Pearl Jam connection, but John Baker-Saunders' lines are the star, it's just an exercise in letting every individual note breathe. I recall back when it was released, it was the only non-Jazz/Fusion release that I ever saw get a 5 star review in the American Bass Player magazine. More than 20 years later it's still sublime (YMMV).
7. Does the BSF have its power supply? If so stick me in the queue!
8. Maruszczyks are rubbish for curing GAS anyway, I've got a pair but I still go twitchy everytime I see one in the marketplace.
9. Brilliant!
10. Purely personal and for very different reasons... Blues Brothers Soundtrack. Complete Madness - Madness. Hejira - Joni Mitchell. Mad Season - Mad Season. Live and Dangerous - Thin Lizzy. Live After Death - Iron Maiden.
11. That's strange, was it something you specified? IIRC someone in this thread had was advised string trees would be fitted as the neck was made out a wood that didn't lend itself to being angled (maybe it messed up the figuring or something), but I thought they all were as standard, both mine are.
12. I think it's just their preference for a slightly shallow cut nut. My Jake headstock is angled, but no rattles and everything was fine until I played an old part with a 2nd fret bend on the A string... popped straight out. luckily it was rehearsal rather than a gig.
13. I'd hazard a guess that Shuker could sort it out too... I love the idea of the worlds first Maruszczuker!
14. The only album I have that I know for a fact is from this year is Stevie Simpson's Fair Travels and Fine Times, and I got that for free because I played on it. Other than that, like Mick I bought Gurutopia by Shez Raja at the bass show back in March, and I like it a lot.
15. Ozric Tentacles would be lovely. Just switch off and play!
16. Took an Alto Mixer off Pete's hands a couple of weeks ago, and it was a doddle. Easy, quick communication, told him I wasn't in a hurry but it went in the post the next day and was packed to survive an atomic blast. It's in great nick and works fine as claimed. Thanks Pete!
17. Billy Cobham on Monday... Inspiring stuff, and Tim Landers had a hell of a tone.
18.
Got a couple of questions: What is the difference between a Jake and a Jake L? Is it correct to assume a 34" scale unless otherwise stated? Thanks.
Weight I believe. L is for light. My Ewood L practically floats.
19. Do Ibanez even make a bad bass? I've no experience of the GSR but while I don't get on with the tight spacing on their 5 strings they all feel great to me. I was looking for a toe in the water fretless 5 and went for the Harley Benton Progressive. For about 130 quid I have no complaints other than that they ship it with roundwounds. One set of Fender flats and a little tweak and it's a nice instrument to play. Pretty decent range of tones too. Maybe a little noise when active is engaged if you turn the treble up... but who does that really. I only did it to test.
20. All fivers. 2 fretted, one fretless and one fretless acoustic.
21.
Bit of thread revival. Dunno of the Sire Marcus Miller's in here already but it ain't half fugly.
I discounted this highly praised bass for that sole reason!
22. You have missed something. Not sure of the details but there has been a coming together of sorts. There's now Retrovibe by Chowny.
23.
So how do women in the UK judge men?
Girth!
24.
Funny, however no self respecting Yankee Woman would date a guy with no wheels. Blue
We both have wheels, and we both have motorcycles... but we're both smart enough to know when to take the Tube! It's clean enough, runs out to us into the wee small hours, and 24hrs at weekends, and once you get to know it is completely stress free. Maybe a cab from the station if we're feeling lazy. As a rule gig-wise, if it's in from here (and there are lots of venues) it's public transport, if it's out from here we'll take cars.
