Just do what you always do. Forget the crowd size, thats the frontman/woman'seeking job to manage. Just play as well as you know how and have fun. IMO of course.

I needed mine to be a fiver, which restricted my choice a fair bit. I went with the Harley Benton Progessive thing. Stuck a set of Fender flats on it (why they ship with rounds I'll never understand?), and it's fine. Well put together, plays nicely enough, stays in tune, sounds alright. OK it's not in the same league as my fretted basses, but at under £135 delivered I have no complaints.

I try to stay, if I have family stuff to do I'll go but otherwise it's just politeness to me. I'll usually throw a camera in and try to grab a few decent shots of folks playing. That way I have something to retain my interest, even if a band is a bit ropey or not my thing. People really seem to appreciate a decent picture of themselves doing what they love and I reckon I've won a fair few re-bookings with bands on the strength of that over the years.

Managed to bag a ticket for Brixton tonight. It's in the circle, but I'm not complaining... better than missing it.

I missed out on this one. Half expected to have a gig on so left it clear. Caught them for the last couple at the Roundhouse and Hammersmith and they were brilliant. Had a look around last week but nothing about apart from resellers, 60-odd quid which isn't crippling, but I can't on principle fund those scumbags.

I do much prefer a more traditional bass but that's a string short and there appears to be no fretless 5.

Anyone here have one? Totally sorted for fretted basses and I do have a deko fretless acoustic, but I think in my current band it's time for a proper 'toe in the water' into the world of mwah. I know a few here bought fretted deko versions, but I'd be interested to hear about playability and how the side markings are arranged. I don't expect it to be great, but at £125 how bad can it be? Cheers!

No, mine has Haussels (split humbucker in the bridge and Jazz in the neck) with a Glockenlang 2 band. The range of tones is excellent, but it's the feel of the bass, the ergonomics, that make me love it. Even if the sound was 5hit it would still be my favourite.

Well over a year with my L5 and it still blows me away every time I pick it up... so ridiculously playable. I took my Jake to an audition yesterday that turned out to have more of a requirement for subtly than expected and spent the whole time wishing I'd taken the Elwood. You'll have a lot of fun with that!

Stupid Laggy WiFi... nothing to see here!

My L5 came with a super low set up and very light strings. Playing as normal it had a fair but of buzz. As an experiment I turned my amp up and played with a much lighter touch and in the space of a fortnight totally transformed my playing... Smoother, quicker and much more dynamic control. Within a month all my basses wore a similar setup. I'm guessing it's how Adrian plays, and that's how he sends them out.

I've not tried their recent basses, but a friend is a dealer for them, and their guitars are beautiful. They still make a better Les Paul than Gibson for my money.

It practically plays itself. I can't imagine not having it. I had them build me a Jake 5 late last year, which is stunning and sounds tremendous, but sometimes I can't help but thinking I could have gone with another Elwood L5.
