1. Piccadilly to Green Park and Number 9 from there to Olympia, or Piccalilli to Earl's Court and walk up from there, and it looks like the District is running round to High Street Kensington and it's about a 15 min walk from there... or Uber... obviously.
2. Walking from Earl's Court and High St Kensington is no big problem either. There are plenty of buses head that way too, and that early in the morning at weekends it's not the usual horrible experience... usually pretty quiet, particularly the Sunday.
3. It's worth folks checking their journeys as the tube over that way is a little screwy this weekend. The Olympia link from Earl's Court is out, as is London Overground coming from the south towards Olympia.
4. Not sure what they'll bring, but Maruszcyzck mentioned it on FB this morning.
5. It looks like Bass Direct are taking a few to the Bass Show, which might be useful for the curious.
6. My Zoom B3 is fine, and surprisingly the Korg Pitchclip I bought for emergencies is fine too.
7. Change of Heart -Cyndi Lauper. An angular, low synth bass line, not really suited to bass guitar from a fingering point of view, with a very wide uncomfortable stretch. Told the BL it was more trouble than it was worth, which he responded to by giving me a copy of a live performances with Bakithi Kumalo making it look easy... git!
8. I find Mozart's Friend a great resource. I think it was developed by someone on here IIRC.
9.
That fits with my point about thinking about the sound you want. Most peeps seem to want fat and plummy. I'm trying for a slide / shimmer sound, like a low-range slide guitar, and the chromes are much better for that.
Exactly... It's all horses for courses. Mine only comes out for country/folky stuff, and the nylons are perfect for my needs. If I wanted any real brightness I'd need to look at something else.
10. It's all down to personal taste really, but mine wears Daddario Black Nylons, and when the time comes I'll replace them with exactly the same. I love the fat, plummy tone and they feel really nice.
11.
OK, I'll bite....what the heck is a 'fitbit'? (Obviously not a shapely member of the audience judging from the context in which it's used here!).
A wristworn device that tells you why you're chubby. RE the watch thing, I'd never wear a watch while playing, as I know I'd end up scratching the neck at some stage with the buckle/clasp. I will play wearing my Jawbone (another fatty enlighting device, FinnDave), without a second thought. It looks no worse than some items that some consciously choose as stagewear.
12.
Massacre - Iron Maiden
That's not even close for me, but it has jogged my memory. On the B side of The Trooper (IIRC) they covered Tull's Cross Eyed Mary, and that was magnificent.
13. You need to ask this on a singers forum, they're brilliant at it.
14. Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O'Connor.
15. Walking on Sunshine... there, I've said it.
16. I think 14" is his standard, which I find really comfortable, but I'm guessing he'll do anything you want.
17.
the OP says the current guitarists will do it..
If the guitarists can play it, it can't be that hard! I can only speak for me, but in your position I would - Encourage openness between the band... everyone deserves that. Learn the material anyway... when has that not been fun/educational/rewarding? Just see how it develops, maybe it'll all get sorted, but you've learned something and have something in a dep required scenario, maybe he'll leave, maybe he'll be pushed, just take it as it comes. This is unless the bass player is a friend, a close friend of friends, or similar, in which case I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.
18. I bet it has. My L5 has the Haussells and I honestly can't think of anything I'd rather have in there.
19.
It's hard to photograph with my phone. The kind of illumination dictates whether it appears more red, dark, or you start seeing the 'purple'. Playability and sound are superb. I am just kicking myself for being careless and not getting the neck tint and the body colour right But when I'm playing it I don't care anymore. It's really really nice, and as before, the neck is just right and feels fantastic. For my red one, we talked about the exact tint and they got it right, and I wanted the same. The red was also just right. This one, I failed... ha! The kicker is when I first indicated the colour and sent a couple of pictures as example, he sent one back of an Elwood in pretty much the right colour. It was just a bit too blue, but I'd have loved it. So I mentioned a bit darker and a bit redder... and damn, they listened. The original idea for this bass was Prince! I always wanted a Jazz in purple with white plate (and it's got to be maple for me). When he died last year I was thinking about the Precision body and two J pickups, and I thought 'it's got to happen' but initially I just converted my Matt Freeman Precision as I didn't want to spend much money at the time (contract uncertainties and house move, so I was in save mode). And eventually I went for it. I should have just forgotten about pictures and say "you know Prince's bass? That kind of colour". It'd be different as it's translucent on my bass but that sort of hue (initially it was going to be solid, sparkly purple! but I chickened out and toned it down) Here's a pic I took this morning with natural light:
It looks beautiful in that light. That neck tint should age wonderfully... just need to play it loads and get some dirt ground into it!
20.
It's been delivered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (at work... big box... and I'm too busy to even just open it to have a look... )
Oh, harsh! Still, anticipation can be fun... no... really!
21.
I got THE email with the picture!!! 9 weeks and a half even with NAMM in the middle... not bad! Here's the new Jake:
That's handsome!
22. There was a DI shootout at last year's Herts bash. Thread with summary and video is here - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/284022-herts-bass-bash-2016-preampdi-pedal-shootout/page__pid__3066222#entry3066222 The Behringer was included, and my little Zoom performed admirably too.
23. Crikey that's a bargain!* *Runs of to Google kit required for Skype lessons
24.
Result!!
Indeed! To be fair though, it was a country project so expectations might not have been that high!
25. I had the Jake in the studio for the first time yesterday, DI with a Grace preamp and through a miked Fender BXR 1x15. The artist and producer wouldn't stop banging on about the sound, it was exactly how I hoped it would be.
