1. ... and if that's the Haussel mini humbucker you're in for a treat!
2. Mine was early too, must just be giving the worst case scenario. That is a real thing of beauty, the finish is spectacular!
3. @ TheGreek & Paul S - Thanks for that, looks like it's a viable option then, I don't mind a heavy head, that's never a problem. My apologies for not coming back to this earlier, I wasn't being ignorant, I just didn't want to be bumping before I'm due on the pretense of conversation... But I'm due now... so bump!
4.
if any of you wonder about the sparkle finishes.... that's how it looks with the LED panel. cheers
Under decent stage lights you're going to need to give out sunglasses to the audience as a safety measure!
5.
"...a more portable option that would give me similar volume and bottom end..." and there in lies your problem - nothing, I repeat nothing, can give you that Trace Elliot thump. Certainly no D Class amp anyway. Great basses these - and at a ridiculously low price - I've no doubt this will get snapped up pretty sharpish.
Aw don't tell me that (although I think I'd probably guessed anyway). I don't suppose you've any Intel on Trace head + lightweight cab by way of compromise... surely that might work? It is a lovely bit of kit this, and I'll be sorry to see the back of it. If it wasn't for space I'd still have every bass I'd ever owned.
6. Ah bills... the curse of the bass player (and probably everyone else too). No worries Fella, life gets in the way sometimes.
7. Bass Collection SB315 (I'm 99.9% sure, but open to correction from the many Nanyo geeks on here) It's been with me around 20 years, bought from Electro Music in Doncaster way back when I was a northerner, and is a really nice bass to play, but just doesn't get the attention it deserves after recent bouts of GAS. All original in terms of pickups and preamp, and sounds great. The pots etc grew a little scratchy over the years, so I had it into Guitar Aid earlier this year for a refresh, and now it's spot on. Very dark blue, with a fine sparkle in it when the light hits. A few little knocks as is to be expected of a bass this age, but only one through the paint chip on the rear edge at the bottom as shown in the pics (dinged at a gig at RAF Bruggen, as I vividly and painfully remember), just light swirling in the paint other than that. Frets in good condition, no work required there. It's wearing old nickel roundwounds at the minute, that could probably do with changing if you want 'bright', but they sound great to my ears. 19mm spacing at the bridge, 24 frets. Just to note, it's shown here with Schaller strap buttons, but now has regular ones. I would also consider trades for lighter weight amplification stuff. As much as I love my old faithful 1 x 15 Trace Combo, getting down the stairs from the flat is a manual handling hazard waiting to happen, and I could probably pull together a few hundred quid to move towards a more portable option that would give me similar volume and bottom end. No case or gigbag so collection preferred, I do have a shedload of bubble wrap, and a robust box that I've just taken delivery of a bass in, so I'm happy to look at couriering at buyers expense and risk. I'm in Harrow, work in central London, and I'm also happy to look at halfway meetups over a sensible distance. Any questions or specific pic requests just give me a shout
8.
If you don't mind my saying so, Sir... You should put this paragraph in the first post. There's more chance then that folk will see it.
Nope, I don't mind help and advice from folks, cheers!
9. Back from Canada, and incoming Maruszyzck this week/ short of space type bump.
10.
That is really appealing. It looks like 19mm spacing at the bridge or so as well? You're giving me GAS...
Yup, 19m to match my Elwood. If this plays as expected I hope to get down to just these 2, covering everything I do... well maybe a fretless down the line... y'know... just because...
11. My big thing has always been the type of line that's so integral to the song that if removed the song would be lost. There are others (Foxton and Norman W-R spring to mind), but Bruce Thomas's work with Elvis Costello just blows me away anew every time.
12.
Nice, mine will be sort of like that pickupwise, but in an elwood with a thinner neck. And a lot more red.
The red stained Ash? That's a lovely finish, Bubinga's Elwood looks great in it.
13. Exactly how I Imagined... my first ever P type!
14. Hope for those counting the days... I got my sofa shot this morning, about 4 weeks ahead of schedule. Just my luck! I'm in bloody Canada at the moment, so still have to wait!
15.
Not specific to bass, but if you found Wooten helpful, Zen Guitar by Philip Toshio Sudo says a lot of the same things in a simpler way - it's a thin little book full of single lines that take a lot of thinking about (as you'd expect): http://www.goodreads...5397.Zen_Guitar A slightly different angle, Guitar Zero by Gary Marcus is about his journey learning to play later in life - he is a cognitive psychologist and uses that as the storyline on which to hang a really good clear account of the latest understanding of brain plasticity, late learning, and the psychology of music. http://www.goodreads...453-guitar-zero The goodreads site is often a good place to find books similar to ones you like - check out their chain of suggestions from either of these and you might find others.
Thanks, there looks to be some smart stuff on there!
16.
Standing In the Shadows of Motown https://www.amazon.c...n/dp/0881888826
Thanks. That's been on my wanted list for ages. Again it's a physical book though, so maybe one for my Christmas list.
