It's not just D'Addario, lot's of manufacturers make an extra long version for longer scale lengths, remembering my Lakland days, I'm pretty sure most normal long scale strings were too short. A Spector guy would clear this up, but I'd get a tape measure out. Taking into account distance between the bridge end and saddle, and between the nut and the capstan I'd guess super long would be fine.

A taper should sit on the saddle. but not the nut. I'm sure someone more familiar with Spectors will be along shortly, but I'm guessing you have a 35mm scale length there, so from a D'Addario perspective you need their 'Super Long', or equivalent in other brands.

Thanks. Ear training is a great idea, again probably something I should be looking at. The book appears to be available in physical form only, maybe one for when I get back.

It is something I should probably do. I have a few sight reading quiz apps on my tablet too.

I'll take a look at that one. Regarding scored music, I'm a recent reader, I can plod through relatively simple exercises but still easily get lost working through stuff in my head.

I have a couple of long, dull flights coming up with a week of no Bass access in between. I need bass books (electronic) that cover approach, theory or technique that are more theoretical rather than packed with exercises that require having an instrument there to make sense of things. Alternatively, any decent bassist biographies/autobiographies. I've read Wooten's The music lesson, and despite it's weirdness found some really helpful stuff in there... similar books would be cool. Any recommendations gratefully received, cheers!

As above, an acoustic bass won't hold its own unplugged against other acoustic instruments. I almost get away with it with a gentle octave mandolin player friend of mine, but if he digs in I'm lost. I do like mine though, and with a bit of amp support it's OK... a bugger for feedback though. Bearing in mind mine is a fretless, it's wearing D'Addario Black Nylons and I really like the thump they give.

That is incredible... Ridiculous, insane, but incredible! All you need now is for ABBA to reform!

Maybe. It's really tough to predict. Given that it plunged this week chances are there'll be a bit of a rally in the short term.

I've no particular desire to get another Lakland, but even as I'm halfway through the wait for a custom build I still find myself looking in the marketplace and thinking 'ooh, I could do something with that'. It's this damn forum, it's like a wonderful disease... I'm thinking of asking for a special account that restricts me to Theory & Technique, Events and Tutors for Hire. The sections that will actually help me improve.
