I've always taken arrow straight to mean laterally... which is a funny turn of phrase when there's usually a radius.

Never say never, as my reason for selling is usually to fund something else, but of my current basses I couldn't imagine wanting to be without my Elwood L5a. It weighs nothing, plays really easily, sounds great and is really versatile.

It could be a stepping stone. From there you could move on to being Adam Clayton in a U2 tribute.

Cool. I've not really used it for that, but I'll have a play between now and then and pick out the one I think comes closest to a proper DI, if that suit's you... No worries if you decide it's not really appropriate, as I'll be bringing it anyway.

Not sure if it would be valid in the context of the test, but my Zoom B3 has DI out, and a few DI box sims in it, Sansamp, etc?

I've been following Mike Harding's coverage of that... looks like a great gig from a punter's point of view, must be a blast to play!

That's all really fun stuff to play. If they know their sh*t as a band, and you know your sh*t as a bass player you'll slot right in. You know the songs... just relax and have fun.

Not a massive country/bluegrass fan, but the self titled Nickel Creek album hasn't been off my phone since I bought it. I was learning a bit of Mandolin, and a friend recommended it, and it's a class act. Chris Thile's album with Edgar Meyer, Bass & Mandolin is worth checking out too... it's an odd combination, but works well.

Mine is wearing XL Nickel Wound 130 - 45 Super Long, and they fit fine. In terms of tone difference I have no idea. It had these strings, through the bridge when I got it and sounded great, so I replaced like for like on the basis of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

I love how he never looks like he's trying. Caught him with Judith Owen last year and he just sat there banging out beautiful lines while looking as if he was just sat noodling on the sofa... he was slightly upstaged when Derek Smalls came out for a number though... but who wouldn't be?

I read lots of bad things about the MK1 barts in the 55-01, but they sound great to me. I've never had a situation that they wouldn't work for. Having said that, the Haussels in my Elwood have a little something extra. Hard to quantify what it is, but they just seem a little more... punchy maybe?

I've always used the Daddario Nickels in extra long. They work well with the bass for me.

I still have the 150w (I think) 1x15 Series 6 Trace Combo that I toured with extensively in the 90s, pubs and clubs, huge military marquees, Stadthalle in Bielefeld being the biggest venue I wound up in... PA support where it made sense obviously, but while I stuck another 15 under it for the sake of appearance I never once plugged it in, and never had a volume problem, not even close. Ymmv... etc.

It was a Glock in the Roxy I believe! I love the range of tones from the Delano Xtender... my Elwood has Haussels, but I'd love an L5a with the Xtender.

I think if you want to play something you find really interesting you often need to create that opportunity yourself, putting in the legwork to find similarly inclined people. Regarding playing something you're not keen on, either for the sake of playing or to pay the bills, why wouldn't you want to mitigate the horror by doing that an an instrument that's a joy to play?

A friends hubby drove them round the UK and Europe on they tour last year and said they were real gents and a joy to be around. He's done a lot of big names and doesn't throw praise around lightly. 8)

Dunno about avoiding religion and politics... that is easily the most offensive thing I've ever seen on the forum! ... and yet somehow I desperately want one now! :0
