1. Foo Fighters for me. Gotta love 'em... sound blokes, good rock & roll attitude, good to fans, etc. They can knock a fair old tune out too, but having to listen to more than two back to back is an exercise in tedium.
2. I wonder who will curry on his wonk?
3. There a special place in Hull reserved for that guy!
4.
I thought it was their guitarist who always had calpol to hand?
*Allegedly*
5. Fender Copy. A derogatory term used widely in the 70s and 80s for knockoffs of Fender body shapes/pickup configurations, that is no longer in common use despite it applying to around 95% of all basses produced. Manufacturers realised in the early 90s that they could circumvent this obvious truth being applied to their product by making slight variations to headstock shape, then charging at least a grand.
6.
Entwistling: The act becoming a famous and well respected bass playing despite sounding like the above ^^^
Hard to argue with that. His Calpol consumption was through the roof.
7. Tapping. A technique designed to emulate a 4 year old, completely off his tits on Calpol, plonking away on a cheap toy piano.
8. I've got a bit of surgery coming sometime this year, but I don't know when... so unless I'm in hospital, unable to walk after surgery, or I die on the table, I can't see me missing this. It was great last year. 1. TheGreek 2. 9.
@NickD - it's worse than that - 21 days until submission! Good luck - but if you need help, the guys here are very knowledgeable and very helpful, so please ask. cheers Ralph
Damn... Better start thumbing through some manuals then... This might be somewhat rough!
10. OK... It's 28 days until the end of February... I've got a DAW I don't know how to use, a midi controller I'm not sure about, an effects unit they say can be used as an audio interface, no mic, no keyboard skills, no time, no ideas... and I'm wearing sunglasses... Hit it!
11. Hardly surprising! If it'd have been 19mm spacing I'd have Been on it like a fat kid on a cake!
12. I think the most respectful thing would be to bury the Euro vision song contest with him! Seriously though, one hell of a career, and always really engaging. A real loss. RIP.
13.
I believe all radius' are 14'
Many thanks for that!
14. Does anyone know what the standard radius is on the Elwwod, I can't seem to find it?
15. I need to stop reading this thread...
16.
I'm not going to try that either. I fully intend to outdo the last year, photo-wise.
Me too!
17.
You have a point! For me, the best part of the show are the masterclasses, immediately followed by the performances (on stage or at the booths), then the actual stands and, especially, the people working on them. So it's a whole-day activity because there's always something happening somewhere that you want to be part of.
It's the masterclasses and shows that really make it for me too, and that's what takes up most of my day. Browsing and shopping I can do elsewhere so I concentrate on the things you can't see in most bass stores.
18.
I don't think I'd be happy to do the show in just three hours, but if that's all the time you have, make sure to arrive at the venue at least 20 mins before the doors open. Once in, have a clear idea of what your priorities are - first of all, check out the stands you want to visit, have a look round for what you want to buy, and then, if you have time, check out the masterclasses and the performances which happen to be on while you're there.
You get round it much quicker if you're not stopping to photograph everything! (... or so I'm told... I've not actually tried that yet)
19. It's not massive, but there's enough there, it could be done in half a day. I always easily lose half a day, if not more, going to the masterclasses and live shows, and a little more watching the little jams organised at some of the stands. Even then I still have enough time to get around and try what I want to try, and buy whatever I've planned.
20.
Maruszczyk Elwood 5 inbound. Very excited.!!!!!!!! Glock 2 band with Delano Jazz pickups. Thanks Thomas.
That's beautiful. Knowing your recent history I'd be very interested to know how the B string performs, and how the neck feels compared to your Lakland.
21.
SGC Nanyo Bass Collection 5 strings also have narrow string spacing and, despite the quality, usually sell for next to nothing secondhand.
My Bass Collection (SB315) is 19mm at the bridge which is the same as the Lakland. Maybe a touch less at the nut though, but not by much. It is a great slim neck though, and 34" scale.
22. Only fives for me. I traded my first and only 4 string for a 5 string back in 1990, it was 'good for metal'. Over the years,as my tastes have changed I've become accustomed to it. All my real learning was on a fiver, and as a result 5 strings is just what a bass has. I like the idea of a six, but I'm used to heading up the neck for higher stuff, so the high C would probably be mostly ornamental.
23. As above, ibanez have got the market cornered with super slim necks and narrow spacing, with something for everyone in the soundgear range. Warwick also have the 16.5mm spacing, but the necks are chunkier round the back. It seems the chunkiness varies depending on the year though, so buying blind isn't a good idea. My 2008 Corvette isn't a baseball bat, but it's not soundgear slim. I do find though, that I like a fatter neck when the string spacing is narrow... not sure why, it just feels right. Its definately easier on the fretting hand, but the problem is that I use the B string as much as any other, and when I'm not playing the Lakland, I wish I was, because of the usability of the B.
24.
Phil Campbell "couldn't make it"...seriously? WTF
Maybe he couldn't face it. Grief is a funny thing, people deal with it in different ways.
25. It was all pretty touching. Regretted watching slightly when the kids jumped on me after 4 hours sleep though!
