Bob Dylan - Street Legal. I don't know about panned but it never gets great reviews and is much better imo than some of his more popular ones.

How would you follow Jaco and move Joni's music on?
(For the record, I'd love more Blue, Court & Spark and Hejira but you know as an artist she isn't ever going to go back there.)

I really love some of the eighties stuff with chinese cafe being one of my favourite songs but the production is very much of its time. Moving on? Of course, but just watch the concert video with him and see what I mean.
Joni: Larry, if you continue with that awful bass tone we're done.
Larry; What's wrong with a ridiculous amount of chorus and/or reverb and a really thin weedy tone?
Joni: Right! That's it!
Larry: Can I keep producing you?
Joni: Yes, but if you bring your bass...

My favourite artist. I came across her whilst looking for Jaco which seems a long-long time ago now. I bought a vinyl copy of Don Juan's reckless daughter from a junk shop which started the most rewarding musical journey. Jaco gets all the headlines but Max Bennett is a wonderful player. Check him out on fury sings the blues off Hejira for a masterclass in bass. The brilliant john guerin on drums plays beautifully throughout that album as well. In fact they're all amazing players!
IMO, Larry klein butchered, and I really mean butchered so much of this stuff, which you can witness on youtube, in the tour which came to wembley in the early eighties. -
Thanks guys, it was indeed 2 vol, one tone. I hastily jumped to the wrong conclusion of Vol tone tone because of the knobs that were on there. Next time I'll think before I post.
The bass is nearly back from the dead so I'll post when I've finished.
Cheers! -

Ironically it's one of my favourite covers... -

I love threads like this, so many people slagging stuff off I've never heard of, and now don't need to worry about that omission!
Of the ones I have heard of, I really don't think Pink Floyd have produced anything worth listening to since Syd Barrett left.
Doesn't this belong on the Syd Barrett is bollocks thread? 😃 -

Anything by Elbow. Overrated doesn't begin to describe it.

I agree 99% but 'Newborn' from their first ep is beautiful -

I've never understood the significance of what a critic may think of anything, I just like what I like.

You are right! All of this is very revealing though... -

Just been listening to that this morning. Wonderful stuff with great playing all round.
Jaco on top form.

Surely that's 'Carp' and not 'Crap'?

Cracking guitar solo and guitar/bass interplay at the end of Rapture (about 15 mins in to video).
Yes, great solo/interplay. I was unsure about posting this so glad at least a couple of people dig it. Cheers -

I am another one for Nevermind by Nirvana. I'm sure it's an age thing as kids in the years below me at school loved grunge but I hated it all.
Makes me wonder what critically panned albums we all love....
Production on nevermind is dodgy. In Utero is streets ahead.
I love Mingus by Joni Mitchell which never gets great reviews (always ** or ***) when it should be ****** (this might be controversial😃) -

Hejira by Joni Mitchell. I can't stand her voice and that faux hipster poetry. I understand intellectually how revolutionary Jaco's playing was, but it does nothing for me.
There! I've insulted two "icons" and feel no remorse.

Outrageous! 😃 -

Dark Side of the Moon.

Ouch! -
Awesome singer, sh*t hot band, great songs.Gerald Albright on bass. What more do you want? Great version of moondance that should please the jazzers. One hour of your time though...

Moondance not on that video so audio here

The Holy Bible.
Both the Manic Street Preachers album and the book.
Totally agree -
There are so many fantasic records that people have suggested. 'That' album is more than the couple of Joni's I mentioned previously. The first three Jack Bruce albums I know by heart. Rapture and Giving you the best that I've got by Anita Baker are special to me. Like I say, there's always more than one...
-
I'll start with Trout Mask Replica...

The Rushbo family saw Paul Nicholas in Panto in Cambridge at Christmas last year. He was ace.

No doubt he's a nice guy but this song is what causes lemmings to jump -

My Allegro estate was also awesome.

Nice. The greatest crap car ever made. I had two saloons. Yellow and seventies tan -
Austin Maxi. Perhaps another thread for motors you used to lug your gear around in 😄

Jon thorne and danny thompson - watching the well.
Josienne clarke and ben walker
Albums you think are crap but are critically acclaimed...
