Brilliant example of pick/P bass with a mental video to boot. -
Bassist, Bass player, Bassman. All good, but never MY Bassist, MY bass player, MY Bassman unless there's a very thick wad (cash not the other thanks 😯) coming in my direction.

I don't know my friend but I'm betting John Sessions or Tony Slattery could tell you. I hated improvised comedy when Channel 4 was saturated with the stuff.

I remember when they or their ilk had to 'rap' in the musical style segment. The thought of that still makes me feel very ill -

Some of these guys don't think before they audition. Some of these guys are clowns, they don't know where their at or what they're looking for.

Back to experience.
How many of you guys have been through this one.
You schedule an audition and the guy is a "no show" with no call saying he can't make it.
Definitely a trait of the non experienced player.

I've had this happen to me a couple of times and it drives me crazy. The worst example was when I even offered to pick the individual up from the train station because he had no transport, (which was confirmed the night before), he said 'great, thanks see you there.' Never saw or heard from him again. He was a guitarist though...😂 -

Experience/number of years chalked up doesn't tell you about a person's skill level, dedication, commitment, enthusiasm or a whole host of other things. One rule should apply, does the person understand what the role entails and what is required of them? Basically, can they do the job?
The best 2 people I've been in a band with had the least experience of bands. They were head and shoulders above a lot of people I'd encountered who'd have vastly more 'time served'.
I tend to avoid bands advertising for a bass player with experience. It generally turns out to mean "our bass player left 2 days ago, we have a gig at the weekend and want someone that knows our 30 song set...and there'll be no rehearsal". They're essentially call outs for a dep player, which I'm not.

My thoughts exactly -
It seems the the original setup is one volume for both pickups but with a separate tone for each pick up. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Byig9m6su3KAWnBLbjdKTGtlUW8/view?usp=drivesdk

Robben Ford covers this beautifully, if you haven't heard it - lovely bass! ...

I reckon folks know more about jazz than you give them credit for - think of, I dunno...Dave Brubeck, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington...take your pick - I'd say there are plenty of well-known jazz musicians to ensure that folks just don't think of free improv/noise when they think of jazz.
Sure it's a caricature - people making 'tuneless' jazz, but so is endless guitar solos by tattooed guitarists with goaties, and not all heavy metal is like that.
So I'm told

I think we are on the same page. 'Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood' Now that's a good tune. 😄 -
I'm in the middle of restoring this and its original set up is vol tone tone so no new holes will be required. The original wiring is only half there so just want to get it back to original (for the moment)😎

I think if you played that to most people they're not call it jazz, they'd call it noise.
And that's not a pejorative statement about the music.
[/quote]
Yes, noise that a lot of people assume is jazz, probably including Noel -

I love the jazz I love. This clip encapsulates what people hate about what they think is jazz. Why does free improv so often mean a totally ridiculous abandonment of taste? -
Possibly, but I thought to keep it as it was originally for the moment. No doubt I'll change mind 😄

Old Tokai jazzsound with a pj set up Vol/Tone/Tone Anybody help with the wiring for that? Thanks

OK, looks like I'll have to order it today !

I'm sure you'll enjoy it. In the interviews she says the reason for not releasing a DVD was that you wouldn't get the whole experience of being in the theatre. The same reasoning imo could be used for the cd. Anyway, don't let me put anybody off as there is some tremendous music on the cd. -
I can see how the dialogue would work in a visual context but on a live album I'm just not sure at all
-
...that I got as an xmas gift. I'm a massive fan of both Kate and John Giblin (who is really great on this) but couldn't this have had and edit or two? Tawny moon is just wrong and some of the dialogue could have been wiped.

I'd second that. Fan noise is generally directly related to its speed. The Quiet PC fan you linked to only runs at 2,000rpm. Did the salesman point this out to you, Jules?

Hi,
Just seen this so sorry for late reply. The air displacement was equal or greater if I remember rightly. This has been in since april and I have had no issues whatsoever.
Cheers -
Thanks so much bassassin. I think you are bang on. In this thread http://www.tokaiforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=81037&sid=25e142ae8e60e0618dbd0d166ff97365
there is a bass which is very similar so I don't think it was an aftermarket rout winipooh
The colour is referred to as all metallic red. Just had a look again in the pup cavity and there is a very faint AMR stamped inside.
The body seems to be a 2 piece so it would be noticeable with an oil finish (which someone seems to have tried already) Thinking of maybe sanding the fingerboard and keeping it fretless but I don't have a fretted bass so it is tempting... -

Serial number (L plus 5 digits) checks out as post '81 Tokai according to the Tokai Registry page - so that's what it is. Unusual model with P/J pups, don't remember seeing one before.
Shame it's been abused like this but I think if it was mine, I'd consider a refret & give it a Danish Oil refin. I've also seen repro Tokai decals online.

Solid advice already in here. From my experience, if its cheaper ones you want, then Entwistle make great pickups for the money. If not, give Martin a bell.

I've just put an entwhistle pbxn in a old tokai p/j and imo they sound fantastic for a heavy flatwound r&b sound. £16 quid!
