Solid advice already in here. From my experience, if its cheaper ones you want, then Entwistle make great pickups for the money. If not, give Martin a bell.

I've just put an entwhistle pbxn in a old tokai p/j and imo they sound fantastic for a heavy flatwound r&b sound. £16 quid!

I don't know my friend but I'm betting John Sessions or Tony Slattery could tell you. I hated improvised comedy when Channel 4 was saturated with the stuff.

I remember when they or their ilk had to 'rap' in the musical style segment. The thought of that still makes me feel very ill

    Back to experience.

How many of you guys have been through this one.

You schedule an audition and the guy is a "no show" with no call saying he can't make it.

Definitely a trait of the non experienced player.

I've had this happen to me a couple of times and it drives me crazy. The worst example was when I even offered to pick the individual up from the train station because he had no transport, (which was confirmed the night before), he said 'great, thanks see you there.' Never saw or heard from him again. He was a guitarist though...😂

Experience/number of years chalked up doesn't tell you about a person's skill level, dedication, commitment, enthusiasm or a whole host of other things. One rule should apply, does the person understand what the role entails and what is required of them? Basically, can they do the job?

The best 2 people I've been in a band with had the least experience of bands. They were head and shoulders above a lot of people I'd encountered who'd have vastly more 'time served'.

I tend to avoid bands advertising for a bass player with experience. It generally turns out to mean "our bass player left 2 days ago, we have a gig at the weekend and want someone that knows our 30 song set...and there'll be no rehearsal". They're essentially call outs for a dep player, which I'm not.

    My thoughts exactly

I reckon folks know more about jazz than you give them credit for - think of, I dunno...Dave Brubeck, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington...take your pick - I'd say there are plenty of well-known jazz musicians to ensure that folks just don't think of free improv/noise when they think of jazz.

Sure it's a caricature - people making 'tuneless' jazz, but so is endless guitar solos by tattooed guitarists with goaties, and not all heavy metal is like that.

    So I'm told ;)

I think we are on the same page. 'Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood' Now that's a good tune. 😄

Maybe he had just been to see this lot.

I love the jazz I love. This clip encapsulates what people hate about what they think is jazz. Why does free improv so often mean a totally ridiculous abandonment of taste?

OK, looks like I'll have to order it today !

I'm sure you'll enjoy it. In the interviews she says the reason for not releasing a DVD was that you wouldn't get the whole experience of being in the theatre. The same reasoning imo could be used for the cd. Anyway, don't let me put anybody off as there is some tremendous music on the cd.
