Have been reliving the past watching episodes of the Jimmy Nail drama series "Spender" from the early 1990's on YT. Apart from enjoying the show, I always liked the music played over the closing credits - I know Tony McAnaney (who played music shop owner Keith Moreland) composed the music, I always wondered who the bass player was who played on it. I think my money's on Guy Pratt as he played on Jimmy Nail's hit "Ain't No Doubt", but does anyone on here know if was him or possibly someone else?

It doesn't hurt to be able to read the dots - that would open some doors up professionally for you (Theatre / Cruise Ship / TV & Film scores). Learning to read can be a slow process, but it would be worth it in the long run (definitely something you have to do every day).

Just seen a post on FB that Tower of Power are playing at Koko on November 29th. Can't go as I've got a busy day that day and have to be up for work early on the Monday morning, but if anyone goes - have a ball watching FRP and that blinding horn section!

I like the extra range a 5 gives you, and I probably spend most of my time playing in the middle of the neck rather than down on frets 1-4. Loads of guys sounding good on a 4 though - Pino, Scott Devine, Marcus Miller, Tal Wilkenfield, Will Lee as well as all the legends.

Hi all, Apologies if this has been covered in a previous topic, just not sure how to word it so here goes... I want to be able to link up my notebook to a two channel Behringer mixer so I can play along with a recording on Youtube. Main reason for this is that I want to be able to do everything through headphones as I don't want to upset everyone in the house or the neighbours? I've successfully been able to play my bass and use my drum machine through the mixer so I can practice through headphones, but I would like to be able to add the above option if it's possible? If it is, and anyone out there knows how to do it, that would be cool - if you can explain it like you would to a child, even better as I'm a bit slow at this type of thing . Mods - if this is in the wrong part of the forum, please move..

I signed up for the SBL Academy a few weeks back, and have to say it's well worth the money. I also signed up for the Groove Formula series, and I'll echo the OP's comments above. You only get out of this bass playing lark what you put into it, and he (Scott Devine) is doing a great job at teaching all this stuff online to anyone who's willing to make their bass playing that little bit better.

I'm part way through the Intermediate Book, but have hit a brick wall with the second chapter on semiquavers (16th notes). 30 mins a day should see you alright .

Like all of Ed's books, it's very good. He knows how to put a good bass tuition book together . Main things it focuses on are time/groove, palm muting, ear training, navigating chord charts, "gig survival", doubling on electric and DB. There's a lot of good info, and I'd probably say the split between text and examples is about 60/40. Well worth buying IMO...
