Just reviving an old thread after I went to see a mate's band in Shepperton last night and he told me about this kid. She's got talent in bucketloads, and great technique and tone. Hope Jess has a long and fruitful career!

In my experience there shouldn't be a problem switching how you play on a 32" scale to playing on a 34" scale... I've got a Crafter ABG that's a 32" scale and my two main electrics are 35" scale, and don't notice the difference at all?

Jack Bruce was a great bassist - Cream were a band I listened to when I had been playing a while. Was lucky enough to see him play at the 2nd Bass Centre Weekend at City of London Poly in 1988 - he did a cracking version of "Politician" with (I think) his nephew on guitar and Neal Wilkinson on drums. One of the greats, it's sad that he's no longer with us but his music lives on.

I remember when he used to work at Rockbottom in West Croydon back in the late 80's / early 90's!

Summertime Blues - Eddie Cochran. I was 11 years old when I first heard it, and still the greatest song about teenage angst in the 1950's. A Town Called Malice - The Jam. Bruce Foxton was my first bass hero, and really like the Motown vibe his bass part gave to the song. Donna Lee - Jaco Pastorius. Jaw dropping moment for me when I heard his bass playing on this track (a bass player can really play like that?). St Augustine in Hell - Sting. First bass line I learned in 7/4, and went back to listening to The Police stuff, and really appreciating his bass playing. Perfectly Lonely - John Mayer. My favourite Pino track (thank you Scott Devine for using it in some of your lessons!).

I tend to use the "moveable anchor" where you mute the strings above the string you're playing with the pad of the thumb, but "floating thumb" will work just as well.

[/quote] I found this when I first made the transition, eventually I started to get the hang of it once I started playing scales and arpeggios from all the low notes on the B string. The main thing to remember is that once you get the hang of playing those low D's, Eb's, etc, those notes need to be used sparingly. If you just "ride" those notes all the time whenever possible, it doesn't work for the listener (IMO).

I've got a pretty eclectic taste in music, but I really don't get Dubstep or the new R n' B thing. Can't stand Opera either...
