Take a look at the Yamaha range. I bought a used TRB off this forum and I'm well pleased with it. 35 inch scale though.
+1 - can't go wrong with one of these. I've had one for 12 years and it does a lot of different things very well.
Cheap and cheerful, but has anyone got any experience of the dunlop s/s strings? I'm sure I remember reading that one of the "Boutique" type of bass manufacturers was using them on their basses, and also that some fairly notable players from the states were using them (out of choice!).
Using a set of 40-125's on my YamahaTRB - first time I've tried them and they seem ok so far. I usually use either Elites Stadium series or Rotosounds, but couldn't get hold of a set in time for a couple of gigs I had coming up, so went for the Dunlops. Obviously they will dull over time, but doesn't that happen to every set of roundwounds?
I am enjoying it. Perhaps it is the curse of being good musicians why some people are not enjoying it, and . I am not, so to me it sounds good. I like the loose sound. If I wanted it really tight and formulaic, I can put on a CD
I'm loving it +1 Darryl Jones is on form too... .

Whats the form for collection by courier?
louisthebass replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
My worry is that anyone who can't handle booking a courier probably also can't handle packing up a bass properly (which IMO is the most important and hardest part).
Maybe that's why Iconic might be better off arranging the movement, and having a word with the sender about how to send it. I guess (in hindsight now) that's why I probably over emphasised the sender sealing and packing it properly - and also making sure the relevant address info is attached. -
Whats the form for collection by courier?
louisthebass replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
I worked for a major UK courier company for 26 years, so I hope what follows helps? Once you've decided which company to use, ring their customer services to book a collection. You'll probably be asked a series of questions as to what it is you're moving, dimensions, and what the value of the item is, as well as collection and delivery address (postcode included). Normally best to ring before midday as cut-off times for collection are about 1pm if you want it to go that day. A courier will then go to the collection location, the sender will probably fill out a form and an electronic device in the driver's posession, and take receipt of a barcode number by which to track the item through it's journey. It would be wise for you have a record of the tracking number as well. As you're going to be the recipient of this item, I would get in touch with the seller prior to booking the collection and get them to make sure they package the item very well indeed. If it's coming in a case, make sure that the neck areas are padded out with paper / bubblewrap. Obviously more of the same if it's coming in a box. The sender needs to make sure that all the address details are clearly typed / written out and a return address is included either within or on the outside of the package (this is just in case the delivery address falls off and the courier company need to send it back). The reason why the item needs to be very well packaged is that it wil be travelling with other peoples packages and will be manually or machine handled more than once in it's journey, so a well packaged and sealed case / box is essential. Depending on how far it's going from point A to point B, you're looking at a delivery time of 1-3 days. One thing I would say is that "misroutes" happen -this means that someone or something hasn't read the delivery address properly and it ends up at a different delivery depot than the one it should be at - if that happens, the depot will put it "back in the system" to go to the right location that night. In terms of the damage thing, if it's sealed and well packaged, it should be able to handle the journey fine, but if it's a case that the sender has done that bit properly and it still ends up in a state, you'll have to take it up with the courier company and in terms of compensation, it may vary. -
I've got Roqsolid covers for my Epifani speaker cabs and my Aguilar TH500. They're good covers for keeping your stuff relatively dry in wet weather and scuff free, which is what (I think) most people want. They're never going to be total protection against any major knocks or drops, but if anyone's that worried, then maybe investing in a set of flightcases might be in order. More expensive, but you get what you pay for....

What music did you or your wife walk down the ailse to?
louisthebass replied to FuNkShUi's topic in General Discussion
Ours was "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis . -
I assume JK must be on his hols, 'cos there's a chap from his band in the house band on The Voice tonight - I'm pretty sure it's the mighty Paul Turner as he's using a White Fender Jazz and an Alleva Coppolo 5 string. And he's sounding pretty darn good (as always!) .
I have an acoustic bass that I use all the time. Perfect for practicing at home.
Agree with this - I use my Crafter 5 string ABG for all my home practice, and I've used it at a few open mic nights as well. Ok, so I've had to go through a PA occasionally, but it's no big deal. The only thing you really have to have down is your muting technique.
He's such a funny geezer. Have you seen him in Do The Right Thing by Spike Lee?
Yep - plays the part of the bloke who doesn't want his convertible soaked? Frank Vincent's a bit of a legend - got his own website where he sells his Billy Batts merch - I want one of the talking dolls! . And he got his own back on Joe Pesci in "Casino" .

I used to be of the opinion that The Beatles were overrated, but once I heard the double CD compilation album of all the material between 1967 & 1970, my thought process changed completely. What a lot of people forget, is that The Beatles were (IMO) revolutionary for their era, and wrote and recorded some great songs. The Beatles were not a "manufactured" band like The Monkees and The Archies (to name a couple) - they were four lads who earned their stripes scuffling around the circuit for a few years (like a lot of great bands between the 1960's and 1990's) before they hit the big time. I don't think the likes of The Wanted or One Direction have had to do that have they? You have to remember that a lot of modern pop music is aimed at the 13 - 25 year old bracket (for the most part) as the record companies identify that age range as having a lot of "disposable income" (even in a recession). It's instantly forgettable cack that will not stand the test of time compared to anything written by Lennon and McCartney.

Great to see you on here Yolanda - went to your masterclass on playing and singing BV's at the LBGS in 2012, enjoyed it and learned a lot .
