  1. Debating whether to colour match the headstock, body is currently being painted butterscotch
  2. Finally made a start, nearly finished the first bit, bit more smoothing of the edges and I can start on the bulbous hump... happy so far... before... after...
  3. Tis what I did and works a treat for heel end truss rods too one of these (or as many as you need for different size truss rods) stick it in a vice and voila buggered if I can find mine now though...
  4. Thank you for the heads up! Very Much appreciated
  5. Well spotted sir! Noted and adjusted as necessary! all thanks to you and your idiots guide to drawing a headstock ha ha hopefully get to work on it Tuesday...
  6. thank you ever so much for all the input/advice so far, gave me a lot to consider, massively appreciated after some more tinkering this morning and following some tips very kindly provided by @kodiakblair think I’ve cracked it and finalised the new shape...
  7. Thankyou! Gonna sift through the templates I’ve got printed here and try again in the ‘morrow...
  8. Think I see what you did there! if I may ask another question, providing I follow the steps as above, when printing a template, would it be best to print so that but is 38mm (as is my neck) or larger or smaller?! ive been using (or trying to) this template (mike dirnt one at the bottom) bass heads-1 2.pdf
  9. Can anyone advise?! If printing out templates (I’m still going at it) what would be the most important part to get aligned?! I’m going for the tuner holes but is that too obvious an option?!
  10. I like the look of that, pretty much what I’m going for...not too bulbous but still close enough to look decent and not get confused/mistaken with the real thing
  11. thanks for all the comments and tips so far guys (and gals?!) has given me some food for thought before I make it look like I attacked the headstock with a butter knife and teaspoon
  12. Thank you for that, quite insightful although I do have to admit, you lost me a bit with all the swinging and moving and marking of the tips and curves, some pictures (if you can) would be massively appreciated and might help worm it into my skull a bit...
  13. Tis a very good point, wondering if I should just learn to live with it now?!
  14. Hmmm never thought of that, if I can work it out, might give that a whirl! where I’ve put the white paper on it, looks ok to my eyes, I’m just wondering if there’s something glaringly obvious that I’ve missed that could go wrong, shape or proportion wise
  15. Definitely more of the streamlined kind of look after...just can’t seem to find a template that will fit/match what I have :-s Will have a good looky and get the pencil out, thankyou for that
  16. Must just be me but it looks a little....bulbous...
  17. this is the headstock from the original eBay listing, not sure why I didn’t think it looked too bad...
  18. Thanks so much for the reply @Stub Mandrel the bit on the left, I was going to look at possibly rounding that off a bit more so possibly printing that size template off again and the moving it down currently, the “top” hole lines up so was thinking “maybe if I move it down so the bottom hole lines up...” the bit on the left could be sanded to suit the template that way?! terrible idea?!
  19. Hey all, quick question if I may?! just received a new neck in the post, looking to cut down the headstock to something smaller as I’m not a huge fan of the larger bump at the bottom despite now printing off 17 templates (all wrong size one way or another) I can’t get one to “work” With the existing wood! then I tried this... (picture below) on the face of it, despite the template being too small to line up with the existing tuner holes, can anyone see anything that would/could go disastrously wrong before I start sanding/cutting?!
  20. Hassle free purchase sale! bought a bass from the great @Ted Theodore Logan, III as mentioned above, great conversation and helpful to boot!! fast shipping, well packed, no complaints here! would only be too glad to deal with again cheers dude
