  2. Probably a stupid thing to ask but here goes anyway...... I’ve a set of flats on my only bass that are well worn in and sounding magnificent so looking to keep them where they are! Have recently changed over the neck on my bass and noticed the silks are coming off of the strings, is there something that can be done to re-silk or at least cover the ends up so as not to damage the machine head posts they are on?! does loose / missing silk make ANY difference to ANYTHING at all or should I just tune up and forget about it? many thanks for any advice / help in advance
  3. I have to be honest, I've no idea! i cant see why not but i wouldn't guarantee anything....

  6. Top of one of the posts is measuring at 9.4mm but will take one out tomorrow for a bit more accurate measuring
  7. Selling off the parts i don't want/need from a recently acquired bitsa precision bass Small lightweight, similar to hipshot ultralites, tuners, matte silver, not sure of brand but are solid and work well trades/swaps would be preferred on these for something a little more.........classic! So if you fancy a trade up for your spare fender-esque tuners, drop me a PM, condition not of importance as long as they work as they should price includes Uk shipping any questions? Fire away.....
  8. Selling off the parts i don't want/need from a recently acquired bitsa precision bass Here we have a generic, unknown brand precision bass body with one w/b/w pickguard and one tort pickguard the truss rod t the heel adjustment notch Pickguards are in pretty good nick, body is mostly in good shape but a couple of things to note from the original owner - the string through ferrules on the back could have been installed in a neater manner, perfectly functional but not the most aesthetically pleasing - the routing for the controls is marginally bigger than it should be, although covered by the pickguard so not seen, there are a couple of the screwholes that dont really hit any meat in the wood, previous owner had used longer screws and screwed these two into the bottom of the cavity - at some point someone has added a space in the body for heel adjustment of the truss rod, not the neatest of jobs and covered by the white, mostly covered by the tort pick guard, looks a little scrappy without any guard but hardly noticeable with a guard on light-ish body at 1.5kg would do well for a beater bass or a project/bitsa Strap buttons and rubber “straps locks” included price includes Uk shipping any questions? Fire away.....
  9. Selling off the parts i don't want/need from a recently acquired bitsa precision bass here we have a high mass bridge that has a string through option Unsure of make as it has no markings but not too dissimilar to Gotoh’s offering in pretty decent nick for a used bridge, will come with fixing screws price includes Uk shipping any questions? Fire away.....
  10. Selling off the parts i don't want/need from a recently acquired bitsa precision bass Here we have a neck plate from a flea bass not really much more i can say about it to be honest, its a neck plate, its from a flea bass it works exactly as it should price includes Uk shipping any questions? Fire away.....
  11. Selling off the parts i don't want/need from a recently acquired bitsa precision bass here we have a set of Quarter Pounder SPB3 pickups with all pots, wires, jack sockets and a Varitone circuit/switch Haven't really given these a big going over, just making sure all works as it should, nice variation of tones from the 6 way varitone knob making for a reasonably versatile precision bass with some great sounding pickups price includes Uk shipping any questions? Fire away.....
  12. Cheers guys, the pictures i put up are of the bass and how it came to me, i personally normally ensure I've got 3 wraps on my posts so when i swap the neck over my old strings should have more than enough to cover it!
  13. Hi all, trying to keep this brief.... took delivery of a bitsa acquired on here today, bought with the sole intention of keeping the neck for my USA precision and selling the rest on. Quick tune up and a tinker, all seems fine with one exception, the A string keeps jumping out of the nut! having a little look, to my eyes (as a novice in this sort of issue) the nut SEEMS to be cut ok, the string line SEEMS to be ok so I cant understand why its jumping out! could the string spacing be wrong? Could i need to add another string tree to hold it in place, could the issue be with the bridge? ive no idea with this sort of thing so am asking for any help/advice/fixes for the issue, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated! Pics to follow many thanks in advance
  14. Very good point well made! The album i put up, isnt my favourite album or amongst the ones that constantly get played, just always seems to be on my phone, like you, i couldn't just list one album, id be here forever.... but some sterling music being mentioned so far....
  15. @ead, @TrevorR makes a good point!
  16. I’ve not seen a thread on this as yet and thought it might be a good idea to start one..... what album is “always there” on your ipod/phone/mp3 player however you listen to music on the go, regardless of whatever phase or current listening habits your going through, for no particular explicable reason, an album that just does not seem to leave whatever device you listen to music on..... I’ll kick this off, one album that seems to never leave my device for no particular reason The Horrible Crowes - Elsie
  17. when measuring and marking up the distance between nut/12th and G saddle I've always made sure the G saddle is in the centre of its allowable movement then as @Grangur said, it allows you some movement for fine tuning intonation when the whole bridge is in place
  18. thanks all, mostly what I had suspected, just needed some clarification from those who know........ @chris_b if I were to make a "sensible decision" any pointers as to where a good place to start would be?!
  19. Very long story short ive an opportunity to get my hands on an Ampeg SVT IIP preamp and Ampeg AP-3550, I own an Ampeg SVT II Pro and love it to bits, with exception on the weight of the damn thing if i took the rackmount stuff, id have to shift the II Pro, having no experience with the rackmount gear im going in blind, is this idea just plain silly or would it be a worthwhile swap? Is my amp and the rackmount setup comparable?! currently, im told the preamp works but the poweramp doesn't (all lights up but no noise) for curiosities sake, what sort of value would be placed on these items? Pictures below for reference
  20. My amp head runs at 2 or 4 ohms only unfortunately so im somewhat limited in choice, thanks for the offer though
