I suspected just somewhere warm and dry (in a case under the bed) although never thought of bubble wrapping..... is loosening the truss rod an ideal thing to do or should it be fine without?! Its not something I've ever done so is it just a case of turning it anti clockwise until the nut feels loose?

I use an Ampeg micro CL stack for home use, particularly handy are the headphone out and aux in the rig with cab MAY be a bit loud for home use but i find it great for the smaller gig plus the head can be used safely without the cab which is where the headphone in becomes extremely useful if you shop around, they can be picked up for not much money too, i paid less than £200 for mine as an ex demo unit

Long story short, I'm changing out the neck of my USA precision bass for a jazz profile neck, if the jazz profile neck works out enough then the precision neck will be stored until a time that i either a) sell the guitar, i can put it back to original spec and it wont be questioned as to its origin/date b) sell the neck because I've had a GAS attack either way, i expect it'll be long rather than short term storage, whats the best way to store a neck to prevent any unwanted damage?!

not exactly a combo as such but close enough and close to the prices of the TC combos your looking at, my at home and small/medium gig rig..... https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Ampeg-Micro-CL-Stack-Bass-Amp-Head-and-Cab/IOE if you hunt around, can be picked up for reasonable prices, I got mine for less than 200 notes, portable enough and despite its small size, it can get loud... or for a bit more power..... https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Ampeg-SVT-Micro-VR-Bass-Amp-Head-and-Cab/F2B again, if you hunt around, they can be picked up for good prices! quite often I have seen people selling just the heads on their own too so if you have a compatible cabinet you love....

Starting to agree with this more and more.... Didn't mean i wasnt keen on the orange as i love their guitar amps but i dont know enough or have never used/heard many of their bass amps to really know so was after opinions and experiences, have heard many mixed things re the bt heads and good things re the ob heads but as i say, i dont really know anything about them or if theyd get close to a sound i like Cab wise, i figure it depends from head to head but generally if it were a choice of having 2 210’s or 1 210 & a 115 what woukd be the better option sound wise?! So far, suggestions from you lovely lot are mostly, unless ive missed something.... keep it and change cabs go amp modeller route although not keen on this myself im not ruling it out Tech 21 VT500 Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Ashdowm ABM600 Any orange suggestions?! Any other suggestions?! So much good advice and suggestions my head is starting to spin a bit but thank you all so far, keep it coming -

thanks for all the suggestions so far, couple of things well worth looking into now, please, do keep the suggestions coming..... cab wise, I'm thinking, although could well be WAY off here, a 2x10 and 1x15, would this be a way to go or would it really depend on which head I end up getting?! No love for the Orange heads at all? Could the Ampeg SVP be worth looking at also?! I'm assuming due to lack of mentioning, the PF T heads would leave me wanting more?! -

another for the Ashdown... this could well be worth looking at.... I had considered these heads too, again, something else to look into sounds like a good idea but I'm with the heinous lot here, not sure I could do it, coupled with the fact I've never found any monitors that stay put in my ears ha ha -

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, giving me plenty to mull over the orange tb heads ive also looked at, but have heard many mixed reviews about them and have heard they are loud and then louder but are only clean sounding to a point after which the dirt as a bit marmite.... if i can put this into words i wonder if it might help.... i like my bass tone to sound like a bass, deep, bassy but clear and clean as a whistle, not a massive fan of loads of mid in my tone, just, nice a deep but still clear, dirt of grit i guess, if need be, i can get from pedals (ehx soul food for example) but looking to start with a clean bassy platform with all the tubey warmth of a cup-a-soup in winter if also read quite a bit, with mixed feelings about class d amps, why do they get so many mixed feelings and are they to be avoided Excuse my ignorance @Muppet but ive no idea what this is...... -

Never considered ashdown tobe honest, not since more than a few bad experiences with their MAG amps when i was just starting out as a bass player but will certainly look into the ABM series -
So the time has come to sell my current bass rig in favour of getting a more portable and back saving setup! problem being, im pretty clueless as to whats out there thats worth looking at and need some help in deciding where to start looking brief run down for you all current setup - Ampeg SVT Pro II + Ampeg SVT610HLF Classic series cabinet mostly (but not exclusively) playing - blues, blues rock, soul, basses - precision bass with quarter pounders and will be probably looking to add a jack casady to my collection in the near future pros for keeping it Its THE sound i had been searching for and wouldnt change a thing sound wise, whether its the “Ampeg Tone” or whether its just the noise it makes, im unsure, what i do know is, i absolutely love it the fact it can get real dirty if im feeling that way inclined it looks awsome on stage master volume, i can still warm the tubes up and play at reasonable levels if the occasion calls but i do have the Ampeg SVT micro stack as a backup if all else fails but do find it lacks the valvey warmth DI for recording Pros for getting rid of it Its heavy, REALLY heavy and I'm not sure how much more lugging it about my back can take although not on a regular basis, costs a small fortune to service and revalve when the occasion calls so whats out there that can give me THAT tone?! I have heard a lot of noise made about the Ampeg PF T series heads with smaller cabs but am concerned about how loud they get which seems like it could be a way to go but i’ve also heard good things about the orange ob heads too any help or pointers will be massively appreciated as i feel hugely lost in such a wide range of choices
-
Thanks all for your input, much appreciated, seems i may have found a new home for the spare quarter pounder pickup i have knocking about if i can get my butt into gear to do it....
-
Good point, well made. If i had had to adjust the pickup routing to suit pickup size and position, would it work?! Still unsure if it'd sound weedy or unlike a p at all
-
Thats a good idea and certainly an option But I guess my main question would be, if i put p pickup in a ibanez, would it still sound like a precision bass or would something be lost due to construction, woods used etc etc
-
I have an old ibanez sr800 that is by far my favourite bass to play but the noise it makes has never really done much for me the noise from my precision however is absolutely spot on for me does anyone know how much of a precision tone i would get if i were to put my p bass pickups in the ibanez, only asking before acting as i would have to do some fettling with the pickup routes on the ibanez to get the p bass pickups to fit
