  1. The highway one models were all American made the neck and body were cnc machined in corona California, they were then put on a lorry and sent down “highway one” to the factory in Mexico where they were painted and lacquered, the parts were then sent back up “highway one” to corona where they were then put together, assembled and setup i believe the reasoning for this was largely to do with some rule / law regarding the types of paint / lacquer used was more relaxed in mexico thr later models, like my 2007 did indeed have American standard pickups, badass II bridge and dual?! Graphite rods in the neck, the decal was also changed for these models as was the positions of the truss rod adjustment from headstock to heel Happy to be corrected if I’m wrong
  2. They must’ve changed it at some point as the truss rod adjustment on mine is at the heel
  3. My first thoughts were that this is a highway one! i have one of the later ones (2007) with the badass II bridge, and it’s my go to bass these days, it’s quite common for people to adjust the wiring in them as the grease bucket tone circuit isn’t for everyone as I have done myself also you got a good one there, definitely a keeper!
  4. Body, pickups, pickguard and strings sold Keeping the neck for now...........
  5. Hi all, for sale here Ive got a bitsa precison bass that I put together that just isnt getting as much use as I thought it would so have decided to part it out to fund a new build I have recently started Please do read carefully, I am also more than happy to be corrected if the prices seem too high or if any information listed is incorrect, please PM me and I'll adjust as necessary All prices quoted include UK postage and are open to reasonable near offers All items will come with screws or plates as necessary £5 off of all individual prices First Up......... Candy Apple Red body - £35 £30 I bought this body a couple of years ago from someone on here, cannot remember who exactly, at the time the seller said he didnt know the origin of the body but highly suspected it was a squier, Im not too sure myself, the neck pocket is stamped with what looks like "SGB 8000" f that helps anyone identify it at all?! Body is in good nick, a couple of small paint chips here and there, a couple of extra screw holes where someone at some point has added a thumb rest, other than that, all good 3 ply BWB pickguard - £18 £13 Bought off of here around the same time as the body from "The Greek" if I recall correctly, I dont recall if he mentioned where it was from but matches this body perfectly, good nick, no marks or anything to be concerned about, shielded behind the pots American Standard(?!) Pickups and Kiogan solderless loom with knobs - £45 £40 These pickups I believe are American standard pickups that I took out of my 2007 Highway One precision and have since replaced with Seymor Duncan SPB3's, comes with Kiogan solderless loom and knobs on top, the thread on the tone pot has been cross threaded at some point but does still work as it should, the pot just doesnt sit completely straight on the guard, other than that, all working as it should! Ive taken pictures of the bottom of the pickups if that helps for identification purposes at all?! Squier VM Precision Neck with string tree and tuner ferrules - £42 £37 Firstly, this is NOT a Fender neck nor am I trying to claim it to be! Squier VM neck that I have added a decal to on the headstock, it was my full intention to have this bass as a keeper so I had a decal made up with the serial number matching the birth dates of my kids, as I say, I wasnt intending to get rid of it but its just not getting used and I have a build that I'm trying to fund also, The decal has been applied by myself, badly, as there is an ever so slight crease in it under the lacquer, I can however rub this down and removes the decal altogether if any potential buyers wish. I did also rub the back of the neck down and leave it as smooth, bare wood in the hope of geting a naturally roadworn look on it and it seems to have begun quite nicely, there was also a wood slither that came away under the D string ferrule and I have managed to stick it back and keep it stuck. A decent, comfortable neck, working truss rod, all as it should be Rotosound 45-105 Flatwound strings - £18 £13 Cut for this precision, has been on the bass a couple of months, had no more than 2 hours play time, still good as new Trade wise, Im looking for any parts that will help with my '51 precision bass build, mostly just a maple neck and pickup at this stage, if anyone has a Harley Benton PB50 that I could salvage for parts laying around, I'd certainly consider swaps/trades for one of those! PM me if your interested in more than one of the above items and I'm sure we can agree on something Any questions or need for more photo's, drop me a PM and I'll get back to you as soon as I can! Enough talking, time for pictures...........
  6. Cheers dude! Took me a while but I finally got there, found THAT tone I wanted, firmly a precision and Ampeg guy now.....so simple yet so versatile.... Although did take quite some adjustment as prior to precisions, I was firmly an Ibanez sr guy, quite a bit of difference in necks......
  7. After struggling with many different bass heads (markbass, ashdown, TC Electronic to name but three) and a mixture of different branded cabs with varying size speakers (15”, 2x10, 4x10 again to name but three) I was growing really dissatisfied with my tone as I could never get the tone I wanted or could hear in my head! I was fortunate enough at one point to be able to buy a new rig so after research and asking about, I opted for (all bought on recommendation from the market place here) an Ampeg SVT2 Pro and SVT 610 classic cab. I knew they were going to be good but all of a sudden, 4 years of buying/selling/trading different amps and cabs, BOOM! There was that tone I wanted without even tinkering with the eq section, over the moon and grins for days..... but what has REALLY impressed me..... i recently bought an Ampeg Micro CL stack for smaller gigs and home practice, solid state, tiny, low(ish) powered! I’d heard good things about them but wasnt expecting too much.......oh my! Those tiny little amps with the tiny little 2x10 cabinets are something else entirely! even at low levels, but turn it up and wow! Again! Unmistakable Ampeg tone through and through and loud, jeez can it get loud! Really impressed for something so so small, so huge sounding and for not much money!! If your after a small amp for home practice or smaller gigs, cannot recommend enough!!!! gratuitous photos incoming.....
  8. They don’t come up very often but the highway one precisions are also very good value for money, made in corona, painted in Mexico, assembled in corona, high mass bridge, USA standard pickups with grease bucket tone circuit (although I have an spb3 and standard wiring as it helps with the wide range of music I play, in mine now) Picked mine up second hand for £500 including hard case and shipping comfortable, light, and decent sounding, my go to precision now, to the point I’m thinking of selling my others
  9. Definitely something to chew on, thanks for the advice
  10. If it makes any difference I’m using Seymour Duncan SPB3 pickups but unsure if their a little too middy for my liking, will the lower value help with that?!
  11. Music I play is quite varied really but mostly doing the blues thing at the minute, I have a 0.47 cap at the minute just to get the bass up and running again but will certainly look into the lower value you suggested
  12. Where are you based?! I had a similar issue recently, different bass but same problem Have a google up to find a jazz bass wiring diagram and recheck your wiring, wire by wire, if your local Ish, I dont mind having a look / check for you
  13. Hi all, trying to keep this brief, I’m starting my first “from scratch” build, looking to make a 51 slab body precision, and have hit a bit of a wall..... long story short, I have a solid body blank, I have got it down to thickness and and currently in the process of making up a body shape template ready to start cutting and shaping my budget and tool shed is very limited on this so am mostly begging, borrowing and stealing from friends and family members so far so good, I’ve access to a router, have never used one before but after weeks of reading and YouTube videos, I’m confident I could use one reasonably well THIS, ladies and gents, is where I’ve lost my bottle COMPLETELY! I’m concerned not so much about the routing itself, maybe a bit, but the marking out and positioning of the neck, pickup and control cavities, so ive landed here to ask, is there anyone here the would have it he know how and ability to route the body, once it’s cut and shaped (or near as dammit) I'm willing to pay any shipping / travelling / tool expenses and of course for your time and effort anyone out there willing help a poor, gutless fool at all?!
  14. I found an old gas soldering iron of mine in a tool box, half hour of cleaning up and I got to work, lovely solder joints, everything solid and all working exactly as it should for what it’s worth, not to cause argument or friction but the solder I used today is about 15 years old, no flux leakage (if that’s the term?!) just lovely looking, shiny joints of the two precisions I own one of them is a solderless kiogan loom and I have to agree, genius idea and a quarter of the faff for not much money at all, after this little debacle I may well suck it up in future and just get one of those every time I need a loom thanks again for all the advice given, really invaluable stuff, really appreciated it
  15. @Grangur @Maude Thank you for the excellent soldering advice, although it’s never let me down before, I’m thinking my old 25w soldering iron isn’t really the right tool for THIS job, might have to get iron shopping too :-s
  16. thanks all for the advice, looks like its one of the pots that are shot, my meter says its gone all open circuit on me! Looks like Im going shopping for full size solid shaft pots, caps and cloth wiring (if I'm changing the pots, might as well renew the lot surely?!) quick question...... .047 orange drop cap and 250k pots? are these the "classic" combination for a precision bass?! any recommended suppliers for the above that wont break the bank?!
  17. There was a wire that went from the wooden body to one of the pots also that I have left off, can anyone explain to me why that was there?!
  18. Thank you for the advice so far, I think I may have damaged one of the pots whilst soldering to be honest, the knob on the shaft was hot when I picked it up, could that be the case or would the pot not work at all?! For now I’ve nabbed one of your very own solderless wiring looms, pots and all, from one of my other precisions and put it in this bass, all working grand again, will clean the pots above up and try again when the kids aren’t hanging off me
  19. So today, I decided I’d attempt to swap pickups from one precision bass to another All in place and looking ok-Ish, I plug it in and instead of a tone and volume I seem to have two volume pots now, I can’t seem to work out what’s wrong anyone have any help /advice at all please, need to get this sorted as I have a big gig coming up on Sunday and need this bass working many thanks in advance
