1. Will have to get a proper guitar tech look at it I reckon
2. The more I read your helpful comments the more I'm inclined to think it was a dud cab of sorts As I say it was the first time I had tried it out with unknown cabinet, I will get around soon to try it out with my own and see if it's any different, I'm also wondering if my pickup height on my bass needs looking at also, seems a trivial thing to say but I have just recently changed the pickups and before the change, my thumb on my picking hand had a lot more pickup to sit on, whereas now, not so much, would that make a huge difference?
3. I'm in Chelmsford, Essex but work London so happy to arrange a meeting within reasonable distances
4. Jazz bass or similar necks also considered (basically something slimmer and skinnier than a precision neck that'll fit onto a precision body)
5. I set the gain (as far as I'm aware properly) to just under the clip, eq was mostly at 12 o'clock the filters were at about 2oclock and 7oclock
6. I'll be honest I didn't check, time was at a premium tonight so I just plugged in and played The cab certainly didn't look like an abm or even a mag cab to my untrained eyes, for all I know it was a guitar cab, I asked for a bass cabinet and this thing was what was in the room I understand that trying with different cabinets (even my own) is worth a shot but I was also wondering really if this was a common problem or just something I was doing wrong My amp pushes out 600w at 4ohms and 300w at 8ohms but I'm wondering how the amp knows how much to push out of it's only connected to one cab?! For example, I connected to a single 4ohm cabinet but how does the amp know it's a 4ohm cabinet, my point being is, is it possible my amp was only giving 300w?!
7.
ashdown cabs..... seriously... were you loud elsewhere in the room?
Sorry dude, not sure I get what you mean.....
8. Hey all, I'll try and keep this short as possible, A few weeks ago I acquired a used markbass little mark II head, only tonight did I get a chance to REALLY try it out I've read a tonne of info about these heads in regards to being loud amps as well as some people saying theirs never goes past 10 o'clock on the volume dial as there's no real need to die to sheer amounts of volume My query is this, tonight I tried my amp using a cabinet hired from the studio, it was a 4ohm 250w (I think) ashdown 4x10 cabinet, great I thought, plenty loud enough, I'm not sure whether it's just human error or not but I struggled to be able to be heard over a near dimed 22w fender deluxe reverb and a drummer who wouldn't win any awards for being hugely loud I connected the amp to the speaker cabinet via a single speaker cable from the jack socket to a jack socket on the cab I'm wondering if it's human error or something else that is amiss Quite vague I know but I'm left puzzled as to why people say it's a loud amp and I struggled with the volume at 2 or 3 o'clock on the dial Any help or advice is greatly appreciated
9. For sale I have a near new TC Electronic BH500 amp head Bought this head for £350 a little over a year ago for a new project that never quite got off the ground so am going back to playing guitar This amp has seen about 8 hours use (a good 3 of this through headphones) all in all and is such a great sounding, versatile amp Included in the sale is the amp and all leads and cables as well as instruction manual and if I can find it, I have the original box somewhere Amp is in great condition, practically new, and even still has the suggested settings sticker on the top of it Great feature set, great sounding amp, great condition, great price Fantastic amp for gigs and practices of all sizes and home practice like with its headphone and MP3 in sockets for "silent" yet effective jamming For more info, have a look for reviews on line or the TC Electronic website Pictures emailed on request Offers welcome, trades for tuner pedals, sansamp vt, loop stations, black body / maple neck basses or sun burst / tobacco burst / brown burst strats (squier or otherwise) considered
10. Thank you ever so much for all your help you lovely lovely knowledgable people Think it's a sure bet that I'm best off sticking with my current cab setup without fear of damaging anything which, in the process has saved me a bit of time, effort and probably, money I don't realistically have hahaha Always with the questions, if looking at pedals for dirt/tone shaping etc have been looking at the vt di and the catalinbread sft and/or formula 5f6 Basically something to give me a bit of variation in tone (maybe a little more vintage/old school) and a bit of dirt if I ever wanted it........has anyone got any recommendations out of the above 3 or for something I might be missing?!
11. I'm thinking about adding a catalnbread or tech 21 vt di type pedal for a bit of dirt if I need it, would a pedal like this make any difference to how much power is being pushed to the cabs Again, would they damage the speakers?! I ask as budget for the foreseeable won't allow new cabs unless I trade so am wondering if these cabs will do me a good turn until such a time I can get new ones (if I decide to) Apologies if I've massively confused anyone as I certainly have done to myself Many thanks again
12. Thank you firstly for all of the input and help so far Should've mentioned before for what it's worth, I'm playing a vm squier precision bass with upgraded pickups (fender original 62 reissue whatsits) upgraded cloth wiring and cts pots, upgraded bridge and machine heads and play exclusively with fingers Reading through all the comments I'm getting the following No need for anything as huge as a 4x10 and a 1x15 (as I suspected really but just had a gas attack for something different) Daisy chaining is fine but some would prefer using two outputs for two cabs, I need to ask probably the most ridiculous question now (just for curiosity purposes) if daisy chaining, how do I / my amp know that I'm getting more than the 8ohm 300w if their daisy chained Theoretically, with two 8ohm 250w cabs like I have, I SHOULDNT do any damage to the cabs if my amp is putting out 600w (100w more than the can specs) unless I'm running everything on full whack, which, as I understand it, with the lmII I probably will never have to do?! Just wondering, would selling/trading my existing cabs for a different 2x10 and 1x15 but higher rated eg 8ohms 300w each (unless for a better brand than ashdown) be a waste of time and money Long story short, from what I can tell, the two 8ohm 250w cabs I have, either on their own or together will/should be absolutely fine and SHOULDNT damage unless really pushing my amp A 2x10 and a 1x15 is a reasonable combination for a lmII and I SHOULDNT need anything more Either daisy chaining or using separate outputs (which I may well do) is fine Anyone here own a lmII? What speaker configurations do you use with yours? How do you find what you use? I think that's everything, many thanks again for all your comments, please, do keep it coming
13. Hey all, have just bought a new (new to me anyway) used mark bass little mark II and am hankering for some new cabs (reasons explained below) and I have some questions to help me understand my new head I currently own 2 ashdown mag cabs, a 2x10 and a 1x15, both 8ohms, both 250w The manual says the lmII puts out 300w at 8ohms and 500w at 4ohms Now I kind of (kind of) get this as I've read about impedance in other threads, my questions are these 1) if I use the lmII with one cab, potentially the amp is running 50w more than the cabinet allows so will this damage my cab? Or does the volume need to be all the way up to get to 300w?! (I haven't used my amp with any of these yet just in case.......) 2) the amp has two speaker outputs, what is the difference between connecting two cabs that are daisy chained to one output and plugging each cabinet into its own output from the amp (does this make sense?) 3) in searching for new cabs I'm looking at a 4x10 and a 1x15 so so I could use one or the other or both at the same time should I ever play Wembley hahaha should I be looking at 8ohms each rated at minimum 300w each or am I missing a probably obvious point?! 4) anyone know how well a 4x10 and 1x15 is suited to this head?! Think that's all, many many thanks in advance for any help or advice
14. Also, really I was asking for opinions on good quality cabinets that don't go for very much on the secondhand market if anyone has any experience I hear trace Elliott are good but unsure, I'm relatively new to the bass gear world so am still learning what's hot and what's not as it were If I had an idea of which brand cabinets would be a good shout for not very much money (asking the impossible?!) I could narrow my search down from the (seemingly) thousands of brands I'm looking at to maybe a few and try out where I can
15. Thankyou for the info fellas, I should've maybe been a little more specific, I was referring to mainly the wattage ratings, my cabs are 250w and at 8ohms it's 300 from my amp and 4ohms I believe it to be closer to 600 Hopefully you can see my confusion/dilemma/query
16. ......is it "safe" to plug two 8 ohm / 250w cabinets into my newly acquired mark bass little mark II?! I have just acquired a markbass little mark II and I am yet to try it out but before I do, if I plug it in to either one of or both of my ashdown 8 ohm / 250w cabs am I likely to damage something or are new, higher rated cabinets really the order of the day?! My current cabinets are a 1x15 and a 2x10, would these speaker configurations be one of the better matches for this amp or should I be looking at something different i.e. 4x10, 8x10, 2 x 1x15 On the potential subject of new cabinets I have a further two questions, I am on a fairly tight budget until I sell/trade my current rig so have been looking at second hand cabs (obviously) so the likes of bergantino and ampeg (from reading on here these seem to be amongst the good/popular choices for markbass amps)are out of the window for now, I have been looking at trace Elliot cabinets as they seem to go for reasonable prices but I've never used them, are they decent enough for now or are there others I should be looking at?! Secondly, what's the best way of attaching cabinets to the little mark II, would it be to daisy chain the cabs and go from amp into one cab or is it better to plug each cabinet into each of the speaker inputs on the back of the amp?! Many thanks in advance for any help and advice and apologies for over use of the word cabinet hahahah
17. So the 800 probably wouldn't be worth it in your opinion given that the lm2 and it are £75 apart but still under £350
18. Just found a little mark 2 and a little mark 800 for sale on the interweb at very similar and very good prices, sound wise, is there any difference between the two does anybody know?
19. Your help and advice is MUCH appreciated! If the lm2 is the better of the two in your opinion, a lot of people say it sounds warmer, more thumpy etc Think I'm gonna do it, plus I'll have cash left over for a vt di, and still have a little left over for new cab fund, bargain says I
20. Basically, there's a lm2 for sale on here for a very good price, worth getting?
