4.
haha yeah football, big news today is...............we have a neck! Ta Da! fits nice and snug just waiting for the tuners and neck plate then thats all the bits sorted.
Loving the bass mate and I'm tempted to do the same with an old 88 squier jazz I have in the attic. But that black away kit is horrible !!!
5.
Hey up everyone, Been away for a while due to family and work commitments but back on the bass horse again and with a new band. Picked up a Squier Vintage Fretless (Jaco style) a couple of months ago and it's immense! Replaced the old bridge with a Babicz and have a Fatfinger on the headstock. And it just sings...! Ordered a Squier Tele Bass Special off the back of the quality of that. Chomping at the bit to try it out. Anyone else fallen for the Squiers. Had a couple of Jazzes in the past (MIM and USA) but nowt compares funnily enough! For less than £300 a pop I might snap up another couple. (btw my Status and Kubicki are both back in shape. And back in their cases!) J
Was thinking of putting the babicz bridge on my squier Fretless , big difference ?
6.
report..did the gig last night, had a really great time. I got the set list yesterday at 11am they were all old nos, rock standards..easy..yes the venue had reduced its pay rate but honoured the gig so alls ok.
Well done mate .
7. Massive player and has 100 times the talent of any of today's so called "heads" Just wish he'd sort out that over abundance of "mid" on his sound these days !!! That apart top player and bloody nice bloke .
8.
Just do your homework, and your ears will do the rest if there is no charts. Half my musical life has been depping - you would be amazed at what you walk into sometimes. Many a time i have known the tunes better than the band [well at least the correct chord changes] Don't worry, don't panic and just enjoy yourself. Good luck. Garry
Isn't that the truth ! How many gigs have you depped where you end up keeping them right because they have only ever jammed tunes .
9. I'm now liking the look of warwick six strings , their pro series seems good value . Is there a better pastime than bass hunting lol ?
10.
I have a schecter 6 string, there was one on here for less than £500 recently. I think they're great
I'lll keep an eye out mate cheers .
11. Thanks very much for the great advice guys. Much appreicated . The only thing that put me off the yamaha trb 1006 was a few on here saying the electronics arent great ? But i do love the yamaha sound.
12. Anybody have an MTD Kingston kz6 ? They look stunning .
13.
Funnily enough, one of the old 'Basisit' magazines from Feb 98, that i have just got hold of has an interview with him. He has his Fretless and talks about it in that. Here are some scans. 15. Anybody rate a Cort artisan 6 ? Been on the lookout for a yamaha but not too many going for £600 new which the artisan is . Be interesting to hear your thoughts guys and gals .
16. I like the sound of this cheers mate !
17. Another trio I love are The Bad plus . A fusion band of sorts but they play some beautiful stuff and take The Police's strategy of space and expensive chords to a new level. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=txVSX_DOrpI http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q9hOSZGMXlI
18. Best jazz fusion band on te go at the moment is the German trio Jazz Pistols . I have really gotten into their stuff recently and they are very technical but soulful as well . They do a great version of teentown ,birdland , sex in a pan and chick coreas Spain . http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=related&v=0_TrKZFmWSk http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=related&v=ZMXlVrIDqgg
19. Great to see a britfunk legend on the box ! Great player and great guy .
20.
After my recent Jaco post, I bought the book and can't put it down.....getting into the latter third now...what a terrible, sad story....such a waste. How anyone can live like he did with the drink, drugs....compared to how he started out avoiding all the rubbish.
Jaco's life was an example of extremes .
21.
The Invitation compilation is fine but it is missing some real highlights.
If your on spotify check out the petrucciani and NHOP duet album it is awesome. http://open.spotify.com/track/6XKMtMkIu5FJaMKWPqzA1x
22. Love that album. Interesting to hear Mark King talking about him in this months BGM. He says Toots Thielman told him "you guys finished him off , nobody wanted his thing after slap".
