Ginger Baker film/documentary "Beware of Mr Baker".
blamelouis replied to Coilte's topic in General Discussion
Read his autobiography and it was a cracking read. Very honest especially the part about how he killed a guy which was the real reason he done a runner from Africa originally. Knocked this black guy down one night driving his van when he was pissed. -
I would love to only play fretless but I'm loving my fretted Ray35 . So I think a fretless 5 string must be the answer ..if musicman would get their finger out and release a ray35 fretless.

Hate country music the same way "The Dude" hates The Eagles. But searched Danny Thompson on play Google and an album came up Darrell Scott live in Nc.... Brilliant. He really is a talented guy. http://play.google.com/music/m/Tdat5frmeu3vfaqlzpldtcmf55i
Weird.. I have been playing fretless for a rather long period (around 25 years) and I only want roundwounds on them...I've tried flatwounds but they miss the "bite" you need to bring the string to life. it's not because it's fretless that it should sound boomy or completely dead. I don't want my basses to sound like an upright or an acoustic bass so I prefer roundwounds.. Without any problem I can go back to my fretted basses although if I had to choose I would pick a fretless as my ultimate bass instead of a fretted one... Just recorded a clip with roundwounds on my fretless.. I don't feel limited by them at all.
Sounds great mate . What bass are you using ?

Pino Palladino...once again...how sh*t hot is he?
blamelouis replied to merello's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, interesting. Didn't Mick also fall out with Kate Bush and Bill Nelson. Although I dont know the full story but its interesting that artists like Bush/Nelson/Numan would have provided Karn with the required amount of 'elbow room' to exploit his talents. Is Pino an easier going guy at the studio, is he willing to just give artists what they want and not what he wants to give them. Pino is great, he is one guy I would like to meet! He looks like the sort of guy you could 'prop up a bar with' not up his own arse like some. ([s]John Mayer[/s])
Funnily enough Numan then fell out with Pino , which is why Joe Hubbard got the call for Numans warriors album. Joe Hubbard says in an interview on Scott Devines bass site he fell out with Numan and ran into Pino and asked Pino why he recommended him to Numan "I didn't ,that's the last gig on earth I would've recommended you for " Numan must be a tough guy to work for. -
NOT The biggest secret in the music industry
blamelouis replied to SteveK's topic in General Discussion
Now, we all know that Sting has a *coughs* certain reputation. I've had no personal experience of the man so don't really like to comment. However, I came across this: In the other similarly titled thread, Bilbo talks of the unfairness of songwriters royalties - I disagreed with him. But in the case above, I think it totally unfair, and Sting only confirms, at least to me, that he is the [s]schmuck[/s] person that most of the world thinks he is. EDIT: BTW the interview is 14 years old, so may not be news to some.
Part of the reason Sting got The Police back together for the reunion tour was to make amends to Andy and Stewart. The original fee was £150 million split three ways for the reunion BUT when the tour was extended they got an extra £20 million each. So the boys did reportedly did all right . -

Recommendations for fretless technique books?
blamelouis replied to sprocketflup's topic in General Discussion
http://www.amazon.com/Bass-Player-Presents-The-Fretless/dp/0879309253 I bought this when I got my fretless and it's good hearing from the pros their approach to fretless playing and tips. Introduction by Pino. Also this is the greatest fretless playing album I've heard in recent years it is an undiscovered gem. http://www.amazon.com/Equilibre-David-Cullen-Michael-Manring/dp/B00005NSTY/ref=sr_1_10?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1383727412&sr=1-10&keywords=michael+manring -
I think it's imperious attitudes like that one which does more to eschew it than the actual laziness.
Lazy answer. -

We have a lazy can't be arsed society. Jazz requires effort and mental stretching so fuuck it let's go with xfactor. Same reason mcdonalds is popular ......lazy society. -
Mobile site and full site both work really well on my iphone 4s. Very responsive unlike other sites running invision.

What to do when you got mardy neighbours?
blamelouis replied to Prime_BASS's topic in General Discussion
Yeah it was. I can't understand why you are frustrated in that case, you can blast your meat with a band in a rehearsal studio and on stage. Give your neighbours a break and practice unamplified or with headphones. It's desperately annoying having noisy neighbours. You should perhaps have diffused any potential for ill-feeling by talking to them beforehand, saying you're a musician and that sometimes, at reasonable hours and not for longer than 30 minutes, you may need to make a bit of noise, if it happens at a bad time, hammer on the floor and you'll stop. It's not about rules, it's about basic consideration for others. Things can get very unreasonable very quickly with neighbours and some less articulate types think aggression is the best way to deal with situations. It never is. Try to talk calmly with them and apologise for disturbing them, mentioning the snoring may be a diplomatic nightmare if you aren't careful.
Very sensible. Any houses going next door to you ? -
Would this be the one I mentioned on the other Overwater thread ? £321
It would,so I've you to blame ? Lol !
It finally arrived yesterday after some doubt I was actually going to receive it . It is an absolute beauty, finish is really nice, the setup is sublime with a set of Chromes on it and a wide variety of tones. For the money it is one of the best basses I've ever purchased.
Any updates mate ? Picked up one myself today on eBay .

Band leader: I want a songlist of 200 songs...
blamelouis replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
First meeting/jam/rehearsal of the new band yesterday. It's being set up by the guitarist who's fed up with his 9 - 5 job and wants a full-time pro wedding band. "I want 200 songs on the songlist", he said, "and no notes on stage". I'm now contemplating the huge task of learning 200 songs - gulp.
Sounds like he wants 200 guitar solos. -
