  1. At the risk of sounding seriously pretentious, we are all privileged to be around to watch a World Cup this entertaining, this unpredictable, and this gripping. I've watched every major tournament since 1966 (that's 25 of the buggers) and I simply cannot recall anything that has been this much fun. When Japan -v- Belgium turns out to be a cracker, despite the usually desperately tight Round-Of-16 scenario, you know that all bets are off. My point? The bass-playing can reasonably be reduced or even set aside just for this short while. You'll kick yourself if you miss one of the great matches because you'd decided to have another run through Play That Funky Music ...
  2. Eleven ill-chosen words to try to sell something as off the wall as that? Perhaps he's embarrassed by it ...
  3. From my perspective, after they released Yessongs they could more profitably have split up into solo projects. Rick Wakeman tried to show them the way, but they wouldn't be told. Yes 1971-73 (but absolutely excluding Toposhitty Oceans) remains one of my all-time favourite bands. Yes 1974 - date wouldn't feature in my top 1000 bands.
  4. Ah great, Tom & Will no longer make that particular case. Try this instead: https://www.gear4music.com/Woodwind-Brass-Strings/Westbury-Deluxe-Padded-3-4-Double-Bass-Gig-Bag-with-Wheels/1MBI
  5. I can't help you with being based in Edinburgh, I'm afraid ...
  6. Get the Tom & Will with towing wheels - not quite semi-rigid but very good padding, and you won't regret having a DB on wheels. If the rigid case is one of those really light-weight hard-shell types, they're not actually worth a lot of money and they take up a ridiculous amount of storage space. I ended up giving mine away just to see the back of it.
  7. Where are the LED side markers?
  8. Well yes, the reading bit is important, but it does help to write down the part correctly ...
  9. Yes, yes, yes, we get that, but what about the important bit? How many songs did you play?
  10. Why has nobody mentioned Moondance?
  11. Reckon I'll go with the Minions on this one ...
  12. Anything by Jaco Pastorius, especially the Best Of double album. Frankly, I'd rather listen to The Bay City Rollers.
  13. Then I'd be 11 ... probably a tad young for this gig.
  14. I think ours is still halfway through Winnie The Pooh ...
  15. Are squeezy washing-up bottles involved at all?
  16. The FretFX website is pretty informative, but I haven't yet worked out how you actually attach the LED strip to a bass! I have built-in LEDs on my Streamline (with an on/off switch) and I'd happily add side LEDs to any bass. I wear reading glasses (as one does at my age) and the side dots on a bass are exactly the same distance from my eyes as a paperback book. I'm sick to death of wearing reading glasses at gigs ...
  17. I have two sets of ACS, one with 15db filters and one with 25db filters. I hate gigging with the 25s because I get the same "distance" thing as the OP. I only use them when I'm playing with silly loud bands, and that's rare.
  18. Good luck with the Search Engine Optimization with such a bloody silly name. That's right up there with The Presidents Of The United States.
  19. Depends whether or not you're Rickenbacker, I guess ...
  20. He'd be asking for more if only he had better than a few blurry photos taken with his phone ...
  21. "BANDMASTER, BASSMAN, BULLET, CHAMP, DELUXE REVERB, DURA-TONE, ESQUIRE, Stylized F (in Thick & Thin Script), FENDER (standard and in Stylized Thick & Thin Script), FRONTMAN, the two dimensional guitar headstock profiles commonly found on FENDER TELECASTER, STRATOCASTER, PRECISION BASS and JAZZ BASS electric guitars, J BASS, JAG-STANG, JAGUAR, JAZZ BASS, JAZZMASTER, MUSTANG, NOCASTER, P BASS, PASSPORT, PRECISION BASS, PRINCETON, RELIC, ROAD WORN, SFX, SHOWMAN, SHOWMASTER, SQUIER, STARCASTER, STRAT, STRATOCASTER, SUNN, SUPER BULLETS, SUPER REVERB, TELE, TELECASTER, THE SPIRIT OF ROCK-N-ROLL, TONE MASTER, TWIN REVERB, VIBRO CHAMP, VIBRO-KING, and VIBROLUX are the trademarks of Fender that may appear in this Fender Property and that are registered in one or several categories of goods with the United States Patent & Trademark Office." Outstanding work by their lawyers! I can't wait to see then try to sue someone for using BULLET, CHAMP, FRONTMAN, JAGUAR, PASSPORT or SHOWMAN. In other news, I have now trademarked CAR, BANANA, OAK TREE and FRUSTRATION. If you wish to use any of these terms, please contact my lawyers for my licensing terms ...
  22. Hah! I wasn't at that show, and my GAS for an ali bass goes all the way back to https://www.bassplayer.com/artists/retro-rama-1930s-pfretzschner-aluminum-upright-bass I only read the article in the first place because I knew Dave back when we shared a flat in London in the 70s.
  23. Whoah! Stealth paint job: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SGC-NANYO-Bass-Collection-SB310-series-Bass-Guitar/163114255300?hash=item25fa5e03c4:g:OLIAAOSwESZbL3R3
  24. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aria-pro-II-bass/323317547715?hash=item4b473a42c3:g:tncAAOSwLhZbKnY0 Me neither. I suspect that LSD would be required.
  25. I have a horrible feeling that it involves using a screwdriver on the screws shown in photo #6. So this is what - a sawn-off, fully-loaded Strat guitar body with a Jap headless neck screwed to it? Even if the neck came from a short-scale bass (30.5") it's hard to imagine that the frets will be in the right place for a guitar (25.5") hybrid monstrosity like this.
