As a complete amateur in these matters, I think of it as being surface area x excursion (i.e. the amount that the cone moves to & fro). If you think of the entire speaker cone moving forwards and backwards then the volume it occupies is a cylinder and that's something you can measure. While I typed that, Pete gave the same answer. Thing is, very few manufacturers publish excursion figures, and you've got this thing called "efficiency" which incorporates the idea of not losing too much power to heat (through friction) so I never feel that I either can work out displacement properly or estimate potential volume either. What I can do, though, is a quick mental calculation when comparing cabs. Since the only variable that I know for sure is the radius of the speakers, I can do a quick & dirty comparison of, say, a 1x15 -v- 2x10. Radius squared for a 15 is 56.25; radius squared for a 10 is 25, but there are two of them so that makes 50. So if someone tells me that a 1x15 is about as loud as a 2x10 that doesn't upset me. If someone tells me that their 1x10 (that's a 25) is as loud as someone else'e 1x12 (that's a 36) then I expect them to explain how they've achieved that ... more efficient speakers, greater excursion than usual, cab filled with magic smoke, whatever. And chees has nothing to do with it.

Erm ... do bear in mind that I won't necessarily be interested in staying home for days waiting for the cheapest courier in Cheshire! I'll happily take yer dosh, but if the van doesn't arrive on time then I may not be there when he finally turns up. I should also mention that this cab is far too big to fit into a Jiffy bag, so it would have to travel without protection. Ideally, collection means collection by the buyer, not by an underpaid and demoralised van driver. Your call mate ... -
Baffling. An array of speakers arranged in a line is somehow not a linear array. Use of English is over-rated anyway.

Each method seems to have a year or two in the sun before becoming useless. JoinMyBand was good for a while. BandMix was good for a while. Gumtree was good for a while. There have been plenty of others ...

It's definitely easier to sing high notes if your mouth is in 'letterbox' shape. Try singing a high note with a 'round' mouth (a big O) if you want to check.

The companion to my Compact (also for sale just now), this has been part of my first-choice cab pairing for the last five years or so. A complete change of direction - apparently they call it FRFR - means that it now has to go. For various reasons, the Midget is in better nick than the Compact - fewer scuffs and scrapes, plus it retains its full complement of feet, although two of those on the bottom have had to be re-located. It's in perfect working order and was last gigged on Friday night. Seems a shame to separate it from its big brother. If you want to buy both, let's see if we can do something about the package price. The cab is for collection only from Harrow HA1.

This vintage & rare bass cab has been carefully relic'd to look like the Barefaced cab of your dreams. The finish has been delicately scuffed to make it look as if it has been extensively gigged, the grille features the very-desirable grazes and streaks which come with only the highest-quality bass playing, one of the corner protectors has been elegantly tweaked to simulate the damage which sometimes occurs when roadies for big-name rock bands get too enthusiastic at the load-out, and - of course - ALL the feet have been lovingly removed in homage to some of the really great Basschat topics of yesteryear. This is, quite simply, the very epitome of a Barefaced Compact. My one concession to practicality is that I haven't removed the handle, which stubbornly refuses to fall off. As with all the very best relic'ing, naturally none of this has any effect at all on the cab's tone, volume or reliability. This is a truly excellent sounding cab which has been fully run-in. I can't imagine that you would need more photos than this, but there's plenty more if you want them. The cab is for collection only from Harrow HA1.

Didn't the MOD develop these as wide-area anti-personnel devices?

What's the weight like on these less-expensive Precisions? I've got it in my head that they're all really heavy, but actually I have no real idea.

Vocal abuse is the misuse or overuse of the voice in an unhealthy fashion Well there's your problem straight away. Vocal abuse is swearing at someone. Vocal misuse is using your voice in an improper fashion. On-line stuff is all very well, and some of it is really very good ... if you can find the good stuff and recognise it. But if you're an absolute beginner, then there is no substitute for a couple of one-on-one sessions with an actual voice coach, who can identify what you're doing wrong and show you how to do it right. No on-line voice coach is going to see that your posture is all wrong, you're not breathing properly, and you're straining too hard for that note. Ultimately, you get what you pay for. And on-line coaches cost nothing. Just saying ...

I had the fiver. Loved it to bits but the weight (> 11lbs) led me to sell it. I missed it so much that I bought another one. Loved it to bits but the weight (> 11lbs) led me to sell it. GAME OVER INSERT NEW COIN

And that just about nails it for me. If I was in the weddings market then who knows what route I'd go down? But I ain't. I play pubs. I set up between the Gents toilet and the dartboard, without getting in the way of the TV showing the footy / rugger / tennis / Olympics / whatever, and with everything powered from a single 13A socket which previously had the cigarette machine plugged into it (landlord's going to notice that eventually). Simplicity & flexibility are massively important to me.
