1. You can also go the whole hog and migrate to a Hofner Violin bass (model 500/1). They typically weigh not a lot over five pounds (approx. 1.738 hectares).
2. As with every other aspect of bass-playing - or musicianship generally - it all depends on context. Most of the time, I feel the beats and I have no need to count. Some of the time, I feel the song itself ... I've heard it so many times that I just know when to come back in or play that fill or whatever. And on some songs, I have no choice but to count and frequently to ensure that the drummer is counting. The perfect example is Substitute where we discovered early on that the only way to ensure that Paul and I came back in nice & tight after the stops was to count in unison, so we made that counting part of the song. "I look pretty old but I'm just back-dated yeah ..." TWO THREE FOUR ONE TWO THREE
3. This is for playing bass at home? Do you have a budget in mind? There's no shortage of 60s/70s valve kit out there. I'm particularly partial to WEM, especially the late model Dominator 25 with the 15" Celestion. Expect to pay £300 - £500 for one in decent nick, but do bear in mind that you'll get your money back when you sell it. If you do go vintage, include in your budget the cost of getting it checked out and serviced by a bona fide valve amp techy person, if only for peace of mind.

5. Haven't reached the bloody shop yet ... gimme a break whydontcha?
6. Framus were contemporary with Hofner's great days in the early 60s. McCartney played a Hofner, Wyman played a Framus. In perfect nick, a vintage Star Bass might be worth a bit, perhaps even as much as a grand (that would be seriously toppy though). Yours is nowhere near perfect nick and you're probably looking at a few hundred. As with all these valuation questions, I'm happy to be proved wrong. Just don't order that swimming pool just yet.
7. Job done.
8. Brown paper bag, like last time?
9. In that case, you've now got 16.
10. Ta very muchly - how did you do that? I mean, you've already got 15 ...
11. I want to beef up my reputation. Can I buy more points?
12. Not really for me, but you're more likely to get replies if you give some idea of where in the UK you're based. Good luck.
13. How does the band get gigs? They wait for me and Silvie to text them.
14. Surely we're all ready by now to move on to Straight Leads -v- Curly Leads? Then we can digress into Plain Black -v- Coloured -v- DayGlo ...

16.
I like this suggestion a lot! Two Qs i) what is the power handling capacity of these little beauties? ii) is there a powered cab version = active speaker / monitor?
i should be in the specs but I'll look later if you like. ii I have no clue.
17.
There was a crazy 8 for sale here a couple of months ago, in a rather handsome blue sparkle finish. I fear it may have sold though.
Reckon you be right, what with it being me as bought it, squire.
18.
@Happy Jack - not come across a Crazy 8, can you send me a link please?
http://www.barryaudiodesign.com/crazy-8s.html I believe that a number of firms manufacture these, presumably with small variations? Fascinating cabs. They have astonishing presence and reproduction for a very limited area ... they will NOT project to the back of a pub or drown out your drummer, but they make my DB sound exactly like itself only much louder. In a band backline + PA support environment, this is hard to beat.
19.
It takes "me" about 5 minutes to set up - one speaker on top of the other, amp on top, pedal board (battery powered) on the floor, plug everything in... It then takes me anything up to an hour to set the PA up, because most of the rest of the band "don't understand that technical stuff", so I've volunteered to do it. The PA is spread among the band for storage, so we usually have a mixture of band members arriving late with their designated bits of kit, and one or more of "I've forgotten my mic stand", "Have you got a spare mic cable?", "Have you got a spare mic?", "Has anyone got a mains extension"... ***************************************************************** And don't get me started on the lights - I move on to setting them up when the PA's done...
+1 to all the above EXCEPT that Mrs Happy (aka Bluejay) does the lights.
20. It's all very well saying you can make your own cables, but how do you extract all the oxygen, eh?
21. Try a Crazy 8, ideally on an old speaker stand set really low so that it's level with the drummer's ears. Added bonus, you can use the rest of that pole to attach an LED flood or PAR can to illuminate the (otherwise invisible) drummer.
22. I'm easily confused Rabbie. When they talk about Remic on Talkbass they tend to talk about the Red and the Green - which is this?
