1.
I've joined you, double basses!
But Shirley, that's a 4-string fretless?
 2.
I'm probably going to be the only person to vote 'other' .
Nah ... I'm bang alongside you. Us bass uke players have to stick together, right?
 3.
I played to 5 people once and we got fired.
Pah! That's nothing! I've played to zero people. Literally. There were no punters at all, so both the bar staff went outside for a fag. There was no one at all in the entire pub except the band. We just kept playing ...
 4. What else have you got lying around, Rabbie? If you have a Class D head knocking about, or a small power amp, you can save yourself the cost of a powered speaker and focus just on the speaker itself. it's not clear from your post where your dissatisfaction lies, but I've been well impressed with the DB reproduction of my recently acquired Crazy 8.
 5. I'm lucky on two counts. I live in West London, with plenty of venues either nearby or at least reachable, and I retire next year so I don't need an alarm clock. My plan is to play every gig I get. My main band isn't up for playing 8 - 10 gigs a month (I'd struggle to get them to play four!) so I'll just play in as many bands as I have to in order to get the gigs I want.
 6. Really sorry to hear about your health - hope you get better soon.
 7. Gig-getting? Silvia and I hunt as a team, we're both organised to the point of OCD, and despite it being very time-consuming and (occasionally) frustrating we actually enjoy it a lot. No wild boar or roe deer get harmed but it's still the thrill of the chase. Other band members chip in with some gigs, which is nice, but if Silvie and I don't hit the road then the diary tends to get pretty empty.
 8.
I tell people when I'm not available, wouldn't that generally be easier? I should think there are fewer un-free days than free.
If you look at the link I supplied, you'll probably understand.
 9.
Band before that I set up a Google shared calendar for them because their comms were so sh*t, only to realise that lat least 2 of the other 3 pretty much never bothered looking at it.
Bin there, dun that.
 10.
We use www.wheresthegig.com to try and avoid situations like this.
Looks interesting Pete. What level of IT ability is required for a drummer to operate this?
 11.
I'd be interested in attending another bash and don't mind travelling a bit so Bicester would be fine with me, might give me inspiration to practice more!?
Ahhhhh ... Bicester. (You need to be a certain age to get that.)
 12.
The chat is certainly turning out to be lively, but only a small subset of the band are active on it.
Kinell mate, is this a band or an orchestra? In my main band, a 4-piece, the chat group is the Black Horse in Greenford after rehearsal on a Tuesday. Works well.
 13. Agreed - easy to understand, easy to implement, easy to defend (if attacked). Until someone offers you £2000 to play a corporate gig on a night when you'd already agreed to support your old mate at a jam night ...
 14. Have you tried fitting the fan with a compressor? On no ... wait ...
 15.
I've got an issue with the "dates you can't do" thing too, our guitarist wanted us to give him all the dates we can't do rather than him check for each gig but he's not my dad, if I've got no gig next weekend and I book a weekend away that's my lookout, I'm not going to update my personal free time diary with him on a daily basis as things come up, booked holidays of course no problem and times you already know are out to save checking every time but not my personal free dates for him to book what he likes.
Sorry mate, can't agree with you on this. In my main band (Junkyard Dogs) the majority of gigs are got by me & Silvia working our tits off. The band's availability calendar is the 'Free' tab on the Lemonrock site: https://www.lemonrock.com/junkyarddogs?page=diary All we ask the rest of the band is that they keep us informed through that page which dates the band is ALL available to play. If two visits, several pints, and some not very good over-priced food has finally got us to the point where the landlady has opened the her Event Diary and offered us dates, I am NOT about to say: "Well give me a bunch of dates and I'll check which ones we can play, I'll maybe get back to you tomorrow." The only people who ever think that situation is acceptable are those who never bother to get gigs but leave it all to someone else. Harsh, but true.
 16.
I expect Jack to be along shortly with his picture of a giant cock....
I think you'll find that was Clarky ...
 17.
I love going away to celebrate my nuptials, but I really want to get to a bash.
Things that make you go: Hmmmmmmm.
 18.

Cripes! Johnnie Johnson is unrecognisable ...
 19. ... is a problem doubled.
 20.
I was indeed at Kalabash's gig in Ealing Broadway, and both Happy Jack and I can confirm that Mike's bass - through the ELF and a 2x12 cab - sounded crisp and with no shortage of volume, and wasn't drowned by any of the other instruments. This was in a large pub, with a dancing crowd on the floor within minutes of the band getting on stage.
Yup, very clear sound, plenty of volume, no need for an enormous cab - though Mike tells me that the EBS is very sensitive. I reckon I could plug that Elf through my Barefaced Compact + Midget rig (both Gen #1) and be perfectly happy at any pub gig. I prefer the TH350, and I really love my new (pre-owned) Shuttle 9.2, but I can't fit either of them in the back pocket of my jeans, as Mike demonstrated to us. How often any of us would find it useful to carry a 300W Class D head in the back pocket of our jeans is, obviously, a moot point. What the tininess means is that this is a superb Plan B, an excellent back-up head in case one's TH350 or Shuttle decides to crash and burn. Mike's bass sound (playing a rather nice Status) was very punchy and cut through beautifully. It probably helps that he so obviously knows what he's doing with his bass and his rig .... I saw very little knobbery going on, he just started and finished with a great tone. The only thing I felt was lacking was that quality variously described as heft, girth, or oomph. There was no shortage of volume and we could hear every note, but there seemed little weight behind those notes. As Zappa (or someone) said, this is "dancing about architecture" and probably ranks as mere quibbling.
 21. It seems to me that claims being made for this star are a bit nebulous. I never really liked fusion anyway.
