Anyone spotted the voucher in our shop yet
Happy Jack replied to charic's topic in General Discussion
Haven't reached the bloody shop yet ... gimme a break whydontcha? -
Framus were contemporary with Hofner's great days in the early 60s. McCartney played a Hofner, Wyman played a Framus. In perfect nick, a vintage Star Bass might be worth a bit, perhaps even as much as a grand (that would be seriously toppy though). Yours is nowhere near perfect nick and you're probably looking at a few hundred. As with all these valuation questions, I'm happy to be proved wrong. Just don't order that swimming pool just yet.

I want to beef up my reputation. Can I buy more points?
-
Not really for me, but you're more likely to get replies if you give some idea of where in the UK you're based. Good luck.

It's complicated.

How does your band go about getting gigs?
Happy Jack replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
How does the band get gigs? They wait for me and Silvie to text them. -
Surely we're all ready by now to move on to Straight Leads -v- Curly Leads? Then we can digress into Plain Black -v- Coloured -v- DayGlo ...

Powered small bass speaker to use as a monitor
Happy Jack replied to Al Krow's topic in Amps and Cabs
I like this suggestion a lot! Two Qs i) what is the power handling capacity of these little beauties? ii) is there a powered cab version = active speaker / monitor?
i should be in the specs but I'll look later if you like. ii I have no clue. -
There was a crazy 8 for sale here a couple of months ago, in a rather handsome blue sparkle finish. I fear it may have sold though.
Reckon you be right, what with it being me as bought it, squire. -
@Happy Jack - not come across a Crazy 8, can you send me a link please?
http://www.barryaudiodesign.com/crazy-8s.html I believe that a number of firms manufacture these, presumably with small variations? Fascinating cabs. They have astonishing presence and reproduction for a very limited area ... they will NOT project to the back of a pub or drown out your drummer, but they make my DB sound exactly like itself only much louder. In a band backline + PA support environment, this is hard to beat. -
It takes "me" about 5 minutes to set up - one speaker on top of the other, amp on top, pedal board (battery powered) on the floor, plug everything in... It then takes me anything up to an hour to set the PA up, because most of the rest of the band "don't understand that technical stuff", so I've volunteered to do it. The PA is spread among the band for storage, so we usually have a mixture of band members arriving late with their designated bits of kit, and one or more of "I've forgotten my mic stand", "Have you got a spare mic cable?", "Have you got a spare mic?", "Has anyone got a mains extension"... ***************************************************************** And don't get me started on the lights - I move on to setting them up when the PA's done...
+1 to all the above EXCEPT that Mrs Happy (aka Bluejay) does the lights.

It's all very well saying you can make your own cables, but how do you extract all the oxygen, eh?

Try a Crazy 8, ideally on an old speaker stand set really low so that it's level with the drummer's ears. Added bonus, you can use the rest of that pole to attach an LED flood or PAR can to illuminate the (otherwise invisible) drummer. -

*** GONE *** Two Mercedes Viano seats, leather
Happy Jack replied to Happy Jack's topic in Completed Items
If you can find someone driving from London to the frozen North ... in a van. Believe me, I'd far rather give 'em to you than bin them. -
Just bought a Viano with seven seats, which is two too many. For reasons, I have to get rid of these two seats sharpish, like within the next 72 hours. According to eBay, they're probably worth about £300. If they're not gone by Wednesday, they go to the tip. Dreadful shame, and all that, but what can you do? Collection only from HA1 3RG. I don't have an envelope big enough to post them in.
