1. A bump before settling down to a bit of eBaying tomorrow evening.
2.
I'm not a salsa player...I'm not sure why the baby bass gets pigeon-holed for that type of music, but I use it on all kinds of material.
The original Ampeg Baby Bass caught on in the Caribbean and Central America with salsa players and established itself as a must-have instrument. I don't know the sales figures, but it wouldn't surprise me to find that Ampeg sold more of these in the Caribbean than in all of the USA. It's also noticeable that the Baby Bass 'clone' industry seems to be centred in South America. Kris Kedzior got the idea of making high-quality copies like his after marrying a South American lady and being exposed to a variety of poor-quality copies.

5. Oh yes, that's going nowhere. Although I'm pretty sure it's a 64! I've also kept my 59 Sutcliffe 500/5 and my weird psychedelic 65 Club 500/2.
6.
Hmmmmm indeed, do you still have the Hofner ?
I've had a LOT of Hofners, just three of them left. Which did you have in mind?
7.
I don't need a motorbike. My other hobby is driving trains for a heritage railway. 266 Litre diesel engine this weekend
Yes, but does it have 'heft'? Are diesel litres the same as valve litres?
8.
76. I mucked out three stables this morning while the Mrs swanned round the lanes with a friend. Then I got the harrows out and put everything together and in the meantime mowed two lawns. Then before supper went round half the paddocks (8 acres) with the harrows. Gig tomorrow evening so I'll take it a bit easy. But don't let the above fool you, I'm really feeling old these days.
If you're doing 8 acres with the harrows at 76, it may be time you treated yourself to a tractor or something.
9. Hmmmmm. I don't know enough about EUB to answer that. Definitely an easy route into DB though.
10. Weight is slightly higher than I remembered, at a shade over 6lbs. Width of nut = 1.5", i.e. Jazz width.
11. Agreed, but you'll also notice that I'm not plucking (really hard) with the side of my fingers in quite the way that I'd pluck a DB. I'm not playing it like a fretless electric either, but the technique is a bit of a hybrid. Well, it is when I do it anyway.
12. Nah - I just hid them when I heard you were coming.
13. Hell no! That would take a while ...
14. Yup, slightly bigger all round so that they remain in proportion.
15.
Hi Jack, How heavy is it, please?
Haven't weighed it, but it can't be much over 5lbs (or if you prefer metric roughly 2.273 hectares). Given my own obsession with other people giving the weight in their adverts, this is all a bit embarrassing. I'll weigh it properly when I get home.
16.
What's the output from those 2 pickups like? Is it 30" scale?
Output is really very high - those staple pickups were always pretty variable, and these seem to be at the upper end of the scale. Speaking of scale, it's exactly 30" (rather than the 30.5" used by Hofner) which seems to make it even thumpier.
17. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/300982-pete-howlett-5-string-bass-uke-price-drop/page__p__3257931__hl__howlett__fromsearch__1#entry3257931 Having bought this, it became highly unlikely that I would ever play the Harley Bentons again!
18. Very slightly neck heavy. Any grippy/wide strap will cope easily.
