1. Don't be daft - that's a pre-CBS ironing board made of tonewood and using mustard-yellow Mullard AX7s. I'd have to be crazy to part with it.
2. I got good mileage out of this bass for several years, at gigs where taking a 'real' DB was just too much like hard work. If you go to the KK website (http://baby-bass.com...c-upright-bass/) you'll see that I'm shown as the second 'Customer' in his photo gallery playing The Catch in Shoreditch. What that doesn't show is that we were playing the upstairs bar which is reached by a spiral staircase. Even better, I had to dump Silvia and the bass on the pavement while I went looking for parking, so the BabyBass had to be carried up by all 5' of Silvia. Had I taken my double bass (which was Plan A) we would have been in a world of pain. Then I bought a Takamine TB10 and, even though you wouldn't think they'd compete for the same gigs, I seem to reach for the TB10 rather than the KB1. Shame, but it's time to move on. More pics here: http://s1128.photobu...02013%20CURRENT In excellent condition, fully functional, no defects or scratches. Comes with original KK gigbag. Currently strung with really nice Silver Slaps with plenty of years left in them. Realistically, for postage purposes this thing can be treated as a slightly over-sized electric bass. That said, I would far prefer to sell it face to face and let the buyer try it before parting with his hard-earned. I'm in Harrow, a 5-minute walk from a Piccadilly Line station. Here's the review I wrote in 2013: http://basschat.co.u...5-kk-baby-bass/
3. Bought new in 2013 but little used. Note the Hofner 'staple' pickups (high output these ones) and 60s styling. More pics here: http://s1128.photobu...02013%20CURRENT I can supply this with a reasonable gigbag. Edit: I should have mentioned that this is a shortscale. £250 ono plus P&P as required. I'm in Harrow and I work in the West End.
4. Pair of Harley-Benton Kahuna ukebasses, Thomann's finest. One fretted, one fretless, natch. Both in flawless, as new condition, working perfectly. Both strung with Aquila Thunderguts. [Full disclosure] The fretless was bought as B-stock for a discounted price. On VERY close inspection, it seems that the bridge is perhaps a millimetre (yes, that's ONE millimetre) too far towards the E string side. [/Full disclosure] No gigbags or cases, I'm afraid, they came in long-gone cardboard boxes. And no, the strap in the photo is not included. £100 each o.n.o. + P&P if necessary. If you want both, talk to me. That does NOT mean that it's a BOGOF offer.
5. Sitting under my nose right now is a simply gorgeous piece of melamine, the real stuff that is, none of yer formica-covered chipboard.
6. Technically speaking, you get exotic wood from a distant, foreign country. It follows that the more distant and foreign the country is, the more exotic their wood will be. If you want ash, then you'd best import it from New Zealand. If you don't think NZ is sufficiently foreign, then try Borneo or somewhere.
7. My experience of trying to push my Briefcase really hard is that it tends to fart out a bit too easily, and sounds really harsh. That was using it as backline with an acoustic combo, but in a rammed pub where the crowd was making a simply stunning amount of noise shouting and laughing. Had my bass been going chiefly through the PA then I doubt this would have been an issue. The shape of the combo and high centre of gravity make it a poor choice for balancing on top of other things. Also worth mentioning how incredibly sweet the sound of that combo is at home volumes. I love playing through mine.
8.
In the end less people will buy the product, because we are all becoming conscious of being ripped off.
Or maybe fewer people ...
9. Beginning to think I'm right - this is to do with the quality of the bass. Mine was a 315, i.e. the 5-string version of the 310 which was the entry-level active bass.
10. Well that was fun. Slow start to the evening, probably no more than 50 people for set #1. Ramped up quickly for set #2 and by set #3 the place was absolutely rammed ... must have been well over 200 people there. They had four people on Security. There was a beefy Polish lass on her first night at the pub, and she appointed herself guardian of the stage area. She did a truly excellent job all evening of intercepting drunken oafs, over-enthusiastic dancers, and misguided karaoke wannabees. She was so good that the band tipped her as soon as we'd been wedged. Pub seemed happy, said they'd have us back for sure. All good.
11. So 30 Basschatters turn up at a darkened, locked pub with a notice pinned up saying APRIL FOOL!
12. Not convinced by that intonation. And there's some seriously weird sh*t going on at the neck joint.
13. Interesting. My 1988 SB315 had the usual black plastic jobbie, and I didn't think any major manufacturer ever fitted brass nuts as standard ... maybe Alembic? Perhaps the more upmarket SGC Nanyo 5's had them?
14. Answer #1 - I'm a very, very lucky man. Answer #2 - Luck has nothing to do with it. We wouldn't be an item if we didn't like doing all this stuff together.
15. So his mate says to him, "these'd be worth a lot more if they were Vantage bass - shame they've got Lincoln all over the headstocks". "No worries," he says, "I'll just get rid of the headstocks".
16. Intonation? As Victor Wooten famously and helpfully put it, on a fretted bass you're never more than a semitone away from a "right" note. So on fretless, I guess that means that you're less than a semitone away, right?
17. They've got it made and branded, if you know what I mean ...
18.
Synth bass but no fart or squelch.
Well where's the fun in that? I found the Hartke pedal BTW.

20.
Yeah I know..... can you change it????

Done
Aren't you glad you didn't buy a Squier By Fender Vintage Modified Jazz Three Tone Sunburst ...
21. And if your name was Frank Bough, wouldn't you put a lot of effort into persuading people to pronounce it "Bow" rather than "Boff"?
22. I'm so up for a Nationwide event that I've already written the theme music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YO0GQrYV5oQ
23.
Also a band doing £850.00 including lights, DJ music and striptease act ...
I would pay good money to see the look on the face of the Mother-Of-The-Bride if the Best Man booked a stripper for her daughter's wedding.
24.
I wouldn't have it any other way. Driving back slowly - on my own - listening to the BBC World Service is great downtime!

I love driving home from gigs around 2:00 in the morning listening to our late night talk radio.

I always drive home in complete silence, with the music of the night still playing in my head.
All cool in their own way, but I have the delight of driving home with my other half, another well-known Basschatter, who is there for every gig. It makes for a lively conversation all the way back.
