1.
Wasn't radio always a bit biased in what it played ...
Understatement of the year so far ...
2. Does it have a fitted hardcase / rigid soft case or similar?
3. They didn't actually do these in LPB did they? Every factory fretless I've ever seen from the 70s is either 3TS or a hippy re-fin.
4.
Errrrm... It may be a small matter but when is original 'original'? Original Fretless Fender P Bass from 1974 Maple Neck - Original Finish and Machine heads Lake Placid Blue body Refin by JKG London Original P Bass pickup and coil winding - 1974 Volume and Tone Pots - New 0,05 Tone Cap - Old after market Bridge & Pick guard
Don't forget that bit!
5.
They shouldn't include streaming, only downloads. My daughter has been streaming one song several times a journey every time she gets in the car. One person could be responsible for maybe 100plays in one week. To me that's not really a true measure of 'popularity' of a song. .
I entirely agree ... except ... what makes the number of physical 45rpm singles sold a better answer? As a teenager I bought loads of 45s. Some got played twice and then never again, some were still being played regularly years later. The charts of my yoof didn't detect any of that. A 1973 Top 20 chart based purely on the number of plays each song got on UK radio would look different from a chart based on sales, but would be equally valid or invalid depending on your point of view. Streaming is just radio-on-demand.
6. Really liking that Kingston Town vibe. [Pedant] Not too sure about the references above to "reggae". I'm hearing Ska and Rock Steady but nothing I'd call reggae. [/Pedant]
7. That thing looks absolutely tiny! I have a Harley Benton jobbie (well two actually, fretted & fretless) and they must each be twice the size of that.
8. I must have been 11 when this was in the charts and apparently a big hit. I had no idea. http://youtu.be/BeJ55sUacPM
9.
I can only manage football terrace oohs and aaahs with the occasional whoo hoo.
Troo dat.
10.
Me too, I will simplify the bass line which allows me to sing. Blue
Simplify is good, but there are other solutions too. If you listen to Macca's bass line on All My Loving, it's clear that he starts the descending run from high on the G string and plays almost the entire piece above the 7th fret across all four strings. If you watch any of the live clips of him playing it in the early 60s (concert footage obviously, but also TV shows in the UK, Germany and Scandinavia are very helpful) he plays the whole thing down by the nut, making it far easier to check his positions by feel without having to think too much about it.
11. It looks like a pretty obvious piss-take to me. I particularly like the B&Q steel reinforcement being used as a tailpiece.
12. Maybe they just ran out of capital letters?
13. I've used a Bass Buddy through a Barefaced Midget (Gen 1) as a practice rig, and it's excellent. I doubt it would be much use at a rehearsal. At a gig, that mini-rig would work in a situation where you were going through the PA but needed some close-up monitor sound, but there are easier ways of achieving that.
14. Hayman ... ah, leave me alone, I said Hayman ... ah Henry, get off the phone http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1973-Hayman-40-40-Bass-very-rare-British-made-user-friendly-rock-amp-roll-bass-/162095370954?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276
15.
Not bass related, so a bit off topic. I did like this one though "Feminine singer seeking band" https://www.joinmyba...nd-t956561.html
What on earth does 'non-binary' mean?
16. If this was a fiver, I'd have it in a heartbeat ...
17. Try a Barefaced OneTen before you make a decision. It's a ludicrously competent cab for the size.
18. Nah. Hip-Hop was over and done by 1987. All the rest is derivative garbage. Discuss.
19. If you (acting as sound guy) were turning down his volume, while he (on stage) was turning it up, perhaps it was more of a monitoring issue than anything else - he just couldn't hear himself?
20. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/37357-Double-bass-electric-Classic-Cantabile-EDB-100-en-black-/272526132041?hash=item3f73d2c349:g:yyQAAOSwkl5XfWVx
21.
I've also got an 80 watt Dynacord valve amp I want to explore the possibilities of a little more, though I reckon the useful volume from that will be about on a par with the MB200.
Granted that Dynacord only ever did 'clean' sounds, I'd still expect an 80W valve amp to kick out a LOT more useable volume than a S/S 200W.
22. I now can't wait for you to check your uncle's loft ....
23. On balance, it might be better to buy a Squier Telecaster from a UK supplier. Just saying ...
