1. Give it time - unless there's a subtext you haven't shared, then there's no great hurry is there? If they're nice guys and you're enjoying yourself, keep it going. Don't forget that there is actually NO LAW against being in more than one band at the same time! Enjoy ...
 2. I have an 8-string bass and I fall into your age bracket ... erm ... twice. And I can spell 'new' properly too, if that helps?
 3.
Also, Dave Dearnaley in Cardiff is a top luthier - he wouldn't have charged that much! He may have been scammed by a luthier, but then that would have been avoided if he'd checked with you first, as you'd have asked him to get a 2nd opinion, I'm sure.....
Seriously Marc, I wasn't having a pop at any real luthier - not intentionally anyway. My suggestion was intended to steer Mr. Newbie Scam away from Basschat. If he asked Dearnaley to do a job for him, then that's between him and Dearnaley. If it reads that I was insulting Dearnaley then my apologies to all.
 4.
One of the posters here is a PHD researching the Placebo Effect. He was on Horizon? a couple of years back.
Chris Beedie (The Beedster).
 5.
In the event you do agree to pay towards some work then make it clear you will only pay the repairer directly.

And a copy of the receipt plus the luthier's number to give them a call, then I would tell them to FO anyway
I would advise very strongly that you do NOT do this, in fact that you do and say absolutely nothing that might imply that you felt any responsibility or liability at all. If this guy really is a scammer (for £230? sounds more like a newbie or an incompetent to me) then he'll know how to parlay your tacit admission into complete liability. Just say, as politely as you think appropriate, that there was nothing wrong with the bass when he bought it, and it sounds as if he's been scammed by a dodgy luthier. Ball --> his court.
 6.
 7. OK, too easy. Time to raise the bar. How do you quote the bits you wish they'd said, rather than the tosh they actually wrote?
 8. It was all good until he got to the bit where he suggested that those pills and potions that promise a larger manhood maybe don't work. Now that's nonsense ... those pills work just fine. No ... wait a minute ...
 9. Funny things, Hondo. Many were so utterly crap that they became known as Horrid Hondo, but some were lovely instruments. Different factories maybe? Or different countries (first Japan, then Korea I believe).
 10.
I thought it was this one.
Hot Damn! If that was a P, I'd be all over it ...
 11. He's been an eBayer for less than a month, and sold a pair of jeans (!) and an angle grinder. Walk away ...
 12.
Well, I guess. I have to hire my tour busses.
Last I heard, JTUK had a Tourbus Hire firm ...
 13. Huge temptation to leap in and steal all your best 'bump' lines ... I once had a Bravewood Precision, but UN-relic'd. Utterly beautiful bass, superbly made.
 14. The real problem lies with the JET (Jargon Enhanced Topic) becoming such an ARE (acronym rich environment) leading to excessive pressure on the RSBT (Repeated Subject Boredom Threshold).
 15. To look for his girlfriend's braces you mean?
 16. Just in time for Hallowe'en too!
 17.
*whistles nonchantly*
... while looking up how to spell it ...
 18. Why has he chopped a piece out of the headstock?
 19. Erm ... Mick? Mick? It's in Massachusetts with $57.15 for P&P plus VAT and import duty. And it has a US power supply. And the 'Bass' illuminated bit is at least 2" high. Apart from all that, of course, it's quite cool I suppose.
 20. Nope. Just the Jeff Ament. My T5 is anything BUT an oversized body. 21.
i bought my Epiphone TS Les Paul from Macari's. Managed to get quite a bit knocked off.
Well that's Les Paul headstocks for you ...
 22.
I 'think' you and I may know the seller!

I quite like Wayne too, had some very friendly dealings with him and it's always a pleasure to chat to him.
I always thought he hated Precisions? Or was it just Sunburst ones?
 23.
The guitarist owns the PA. 2x10" tops. They are physically 30% possibility more, of the size of the same 15" tops and a lot lighter. FACT.
Fat Spanish waiter, you're just a fat Spanish waiter ...
 24.
The type of gigs I play?--Small venue's / Trio / Quartet. Music style?-mixture of jazz / bluegrass'ey style.

If you want to go really light weight, then I'd go for a Barefaced One10 cab (15lbs) paired with an Acoustic Image Doubler (2.3lbs) to give you a 300W rig weighing in at 17.3lbs.
I'd call that sorted.
 25. There's only so many times a band can play Pick Up The Pieces at a gig ...
