1.
Besides...image is far more important than tone.
Especially when you're widdling.
2.
I have however just taken delivery of an old valve head sent through Parcelforce from deepest, darkest Devon that appears to have made it in one piece. This was mainly due to the valves being protected inside with bubble wrap and the fact that it's in a SKB case!
I once shipped a Selmer T&B 50 (1968) to a guy in Sarajevo. Before packing it, I took the back off and removed all the pre-amp and power valves, wrapped each valve individually in an old (but clean!) sock, and then folded all the valve-socks into an old (but clean) T-shirt. The entire T-shirt bundle was then wedged back into the casing alongside the transformer before the back went back on. The buyer was delighted, and everything worked first time.
3.
Weren't El Greco's cheap knock offs of Rickenbacker paintings?
4. The first Barefaced cab I ever bought was the first-ever production Big One, many years ago. The reception ladies at my office watched as a large lorry pulled up outside, the cab was manoeuvred to the back of the lorry, and then simply dropped four feet onto the road. The bottom was crushed in one corner, the internal crossover was ripped off its mounting, and the whole thing had to go straight back to Alex in Brighton.
5. Anyway, how is any of this a non sequitur? Or has that phrase changed its meaning recently?
6.
I don't drink, smoke or take drugs.
It's not too late to start Mick. Just because you're a bit older than the other guys hanging out by the swings in the playground at midnight, that shouldn't stop you from doing what you want in life.
7. I've played one, in the Warwick Custom Shop in NYC - now sadly gone. It was OK, but nothing more than OK. Better than the Aria EUB jobbies, nowhere near as good (or as "real") as my KK Baby Bass.
8. I'm at work ... people might look askance if I sat here wearing headphones! I saw Talkbass and he looked American to me.
9. In truth, you don't actually need an American accent to do these videos. Here's one I prepared earlier (August 2014): http://youtu.be/bakDMyALGt0 And here's the extended version I did three months later: http://youtu.be/XqBRxu21oZc
10.
'pretentious music for 30-somethings who like expensive coffee and vegetable boxes, played by people who don't practice enough'
It's trending on Twitter as I write ...
11.
I can imagine "an alternative/pop/folk/punk band" quite easily ...
I'm thinking James playing Hot Love on a fiddle while shouting "Oi!!!" occasionally.
12. Two current 'bassist wanted' adverts on Gumtree: #1 - https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-player-wanted/london-band-looking-for-a-bassist/1163165775 Yes, that's "an original alternative/pop/folk/punk band". Nice combination. Sequentially, do you think, or all at the same time? #2 - https://www.gumtree.com/p/other-musicians-wanted/bassist-wanted-for-covers-band/1163139062 Just gets better, doesn't it? You need to be up to performance speed in "alternative / indie rock , grunge, post punk, maybe some folk, funk, jazz etc.". I find myself wondering what's left to fall into the category of "etc.".
13. Not much change in the last seven years then, eh? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/52982-my-favorite-bass-of-all-timehamer-impact/
14.
Looks like a nice copy..no p/ups or controls. At £150 it could be a bargain https://www.gumtree....idge/1162841077
But at £195 ... What I don't get Mick is why would he bother to string it?
15. No Bernard Matthews products at all ... poor show.

19.
The ROH as the employer has a duty of care. Simple really.
"At the time of his injury, Goldscheider was provided with hearing protection capable of reducing the noise by up to 28 decibels, but his lawyers claim this was insufficient. They say he was not given enough training in how to use it and protect himself, and that the noise levels should not have been so dangerously high."
20. I notice that the ad didn't state "No one from Liverpool please".
21. They made 45 of them? Why? I mean, Devo, yes, I get that. I imagine that looked quite good against a white boilersuit in a video shot on location in Akron Ohio. But who were the other 44 who thought this was a good idea?
22. Unless your amp has a 'metronome' setting, of course ...
23. And then I saw an advert here on Basschat. And eventually, I ended up with this: That's a Dark Star re-issue pickup (neck position) with new wiring to the new jack socket and to the volume pot too. I couldn't replace the volume pot because the size is unusual. So this is now probably the best-sounding Westone "The Rail" in captivity. It certainly sounds WAY better than it did before.
