Way too far into 'novelty guitar' territory for me, but I can imagine that being played on TOTP in the early 80s by someone with silly hair and lots of lycra, maybe with their suit jacket arms pushed up above the elbows.

Those graphics are like a parody of a bass amp. I particularly like the graphic for the [foot] + [switch] = [compression] They couldn't have made it any more literal if they'd tried.

Am I the only person to think that posting close-ups of just part of the basses is deeply [i][b]meh[/b][/i]? Far from leaving me desperate to see more, it makes me keen to avoid being played for a fool, and in so transparent a manner.

Oh bloody hell! It's a non-memorable bunch of letters and numbers, and ultimately it all comes down to the 'brain' IIRC. This is a kit which used to retail for £1200-£1500 and for which the direct replacement is now about £2000. If you buy new. Which I didn't. Basically it's a pro-level kit but probably nearer entry level than anywhere high up the range.

Chris, if you go to my YouTube channel (in my sig) then you'll find a load of video taken by Silvie at Junkyard Dogs gigs, much of it using a good-quality Roland leccy kit. If you can spot the difference between the live kit and the leccy kit by sound alone, then your ears must be far better than mine. You're very welcome to bring your drummer up to the Junkyard for an extended shed-building session in my studio if you like. If he's not overly familiar with what these things can do, then he's in a for a very pleasant surprise.

Had a lady call me a couple of weeks back, asking if she could book The Junkyard Dogs for her 50th and how much did we charge. This is not a friend of the band, but she's been to enough of our pub gigs to know that we are the band she wanted. I told her that we play pub gigs for £250 but we charge significantly more for private functions and explained why. It quickly emerged was that she wants her 50th to be simply a party in a pub where she gets to choose the band that plays ... in other words, from our point of view this is just another pub gig. So we're charging her £250. I have no problem with that at all. Reverting to another post by the OP (above), if we were to turn up and play for £250 and then find that she had also engaged a DJ and was paying him £500, that wouldn't worry me. I'm not concerned about how much others earn.

I read this whilst sat next to a lawyer, so I asked her whether or not there's any truth (in general terms) in the idea that possession is nine parts of the law. She said that it can still be true in terms of land ownership (which is where the notion originated) but that the idea has very little application for other tangible things. Then she told me something I didn't already know, which was a change made to the law of Theft in the late 60s regarding possession, ownership and evidence. In the welter of newly-created dining out in the newly-created restaurants of the 60s, a new scam was developed. People would walk into a restaurant, order a meal, eat it, then refuse to pay for it on the grounds that there wasn't (now) any evidence that they had been served a meal ... the food was all gone. Under the law of Theft as then framed, this was enough to enable them to plead Not Guilty and to walk free from the Court. What a great idea. Shame they changed the law really.

Whenever this topic surfaces, a number of misunderstandings pop up in its wake. Soundproofing. Unless you plan to record the next Muse album in your shed, there is absolutely no need to make it soundproof. What Chris wants is what I wanted - to avoid disturbing or upsetting the neighbours. For that you need sound reduction. Volume. I've known a number of guitar-playing clowns who claimed that they couldn't get their tone unless they played at gig volume. I no longer play with any of them. At a rehearsal you just need to be able to all hear each other, tone is almost irrelevant. Control. Assuming you can use an electric drumkit (which Chris will) then this is laughably easy. You just rehearse without a PA. The volume level is set by the unamplified human voice, and all other instruments have no choice but to match their volume to that. Experience. I've been doing the stuff above for about five years now, and with six (yes, six) different bands playing wildly different styles of music. It works. -

Of those three I've only had the MB200. Remarkably capable for such a tiny thing, and extremely practical. No problems at all that I can recall, but I prefer more headroom to be available and I only carried it as a back-up in case my OTB500 ever died at a gig. The MB500 is a better bet IMHO. When, some years later, I looked again at this amp zone, I preferred the Aguilar TH350. The range of tones available seems to suit my playing/ears rather better.
